I love this place!! Fresh coffee, modern vibe and delicious food! I usually come on Sundays since there isn't a wait for brunch like most places... it's a wonderful casual spot in NE. The food menu is limited but has enough choices where you don't feel overwhelmed. My friend got the breakfast sandwich and I got a modified version of the breakfast burrito... I'm very glad I paid extra for the special green sauce on the side! The upstairs sitting area is comfy and I love the live plants! Parking is plentiful on the adjacent street, the bathrooms are clean, and the staff is kind. Literally the gem of Irvington!

This is the second time I've been here - love their coffee! Tried their avocado toast and it was delicious. Love that it had pesto. They have nice balcony seating which makes the space feel airy. Workers were nice and knowledgeable of the menu items.

I had high hopes for this place! But unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. When my friends and I were ordering, the cashier looked annoyed and irritated that we did not know what we wanted. It is hard to know what you want when there is only one physical menu available and multiple people in line. It also felt like we were unwelcome and rushed. We were excited to try the food as well but were told that the kitchen closed early. Instead, we tried their coffee and baked goods. The coffee was pretty good. My friends tried their tea drinks and said they tasted like water and was expensive. The baked goods were mediocre and quite spendy. They were small in size and ranged from $5-8. My friend had a small savory croissant that was $7 and could be finished in 3-4 bites. They didn't display the prices for the pastries for a reason. Not worth. I would say though that the location and area is nice. They have an upstairs location, window seating, and outdoor seating. A great place to study or catch up with friends. But overall, our experience was disappointing and is not worth coming back due to the rude service and prices.

Cardboard croissant and mid latte. Nothing amazing

Worst coffee shop customer service. This is not a gen z stare because the workers are older. The cashier girl and man definitely hate their job. The latte is decent and almond croissant definitely tastes like cardboard. Otherwise nice interior. Definitely a stain establishment in the Sabin community. Visitors will definitely have the coldest service here despite it being summer.

Bottom Line Up Front: It was annoying when they print and communicate food service is available 8 am to 1pm, and 1:30 pm to 3pm; and we walked in at 1:35 pm and they declined our Food Order. My husband tried to order the Vegetarian Breakfast Burrito with vegan apple sage sausage. And, the person serving us stated they can only ring up orders when their kitchen staff is back from the break, and they couldn't even ring us up. *Not we were in the 1:30 pm to 3 pm range. I was staring at a clock over the person-ringing-up-our-order- shoulder that showed 1:35 pm. So, that was annoying. My husband ended up not getting any food there, even though he was planning on looking forward to it all day. I did get the "Spring Miracle Pill" their seasonal Latte, and that was delicious! And, they were able to make it decaf and with oat milk for me so that was really nice. I also ordered one of their ready-made scones prepared by Shoo-Fly Vegan Bakery. It was an Earl Grey Tea & apricot Scone, it was really delicious. I love the ambiance of the space, it is very light and airy and a great space to hang out in. Keep in mind, if you do plan on using a laptop or other device, I did not see any place to charge or outlets, at least on the upper-loft area.

The ambiance was modern and comfortable, making it a pleasant experience. Ordering was simple, and the service was quick. I tried a honey lavender latte and a croissant, which was flaky, buttery, and unexpectedly delicious.

A typical neighborhood hangout where parents come for coffee before taking kids to school, friends meet for a coffee and a catch-up, and folks like us grab breakfast on the way to the airport. There is convenient parking behind the building or on the street. (do not have to pay to park). minimalist decor, efficient service, quality ingredients. I would recommend.

overall: 4/5 pastry: 3.5/5 drinks: 3.75/5 ambiance: 4/5 service: 4/5 guilder is a quaint 2 story cafe with seating inside and outside. i came with my friend on a rainy weekend and the place was packed! all the tables inside were taken, so we opted to sit outside in the cold (thankful for the roof coverage). but i think when the weather gets warmer i will be coming here more often :). also, street parking only!!! thankfully spots in the neighborhood nearby were easy to find. i ordered their classic pill(?) iced coffee- this drink was not too sweet or bitter which i liked, and was a great drink to sip on while catching up with a friend. Guilder offers meals cooked to order as well, but we opted to try their pastries! both the cinnamon roll and the tomato onion scone were lovely and fresh- i wish we had the option to warm them up though. while chatting with my friend, i noticed many tables had people working on their laptops, reading a book, or just chatting! guilder is a lovely place to get things done while having a yummy pick me up. i can't wait to be back when the weather isn't so cold!

I dropped in for the first time this afternoon thinking to have only a cup (preferably a pot) of tea. On impulse, I ordered avocado toast, expecting nothing more than a smear of avocado on a slice of toasted bread. How about a knife-and-fork-requiring thick pierce of slightly toasted bread with half, no 3/4 of an avocado lurking under a haystack of sprouts and slaw, with assorted sweet vegetable pickles on the side? Not easy to eat tidily, but delicious! Enough loose black tea for a pot had been put into a little bag in my cup and left to steep until, by the time it reached me, was as strong and black as coffee. I rescued the tea in its bag and gave it a second brewing later. A nice tea but not especially aromatic. But, hey, they call themselves a coffee place, so... It was a bright, clean, roomy, hard-surfaced space with plain, fresh-looking functional furnishings that hinted at Scandinavia. A flight of open stairs lead to a second level open to the first. It's a bit of a trek for the businesslike servers, so be kind in tipping. The shop is a little beyond the densely commercial strip along that area of Fremont, so parking was easier to find.

Love this local neighborhood spot and end up here a lot. The space is big, spacious, comfortable, and will lit. The vibe is engaging, the staff are friendly, and the coffee, tea, and food are excellent. It would be nice if they had more wall plugs but then again, not having so many does encourage people to hang out as long as needed but move on when the battery goes flat... The four wall mounted high tables behind the stairs sag quite a bit when you lean on them...any chance they could be better supported? ...and plugs installed under them? ...plus a coat hook? One can always hope... read more

Literally I can't with this place. I just ate their Miracle Max sandwich - why aren't all breakfast sandwiches this perfect? Guilder makes me wish I lived in inner NE just so I could come here more often and give them all my coffee money! I LOVE the upstairs loft for working because it's much less distracting every time a customer comes in and out. Wifi connection is great, and it's nice to have a bathroom upstairs so I don't have to worry about walking away too far from my belongings. Wish there were more outlets - just make sure you grab a seat at the edge of the room if your electronics are prone to dying. Their tea also comes in a very generous size - one order could have been plenty for two. Street parking is also easy peasy here - always a plus! read more

This place is tooooo adorable! It seemed a bit intimidating at first but the baristas put you at ease. There's quite of mix of people that come here. I ordered a Chai Latte with Soy which was pretty decent, but was a bit pricey for the quantity. I came by to do homework here and stayed for a solid 45 minutes before my laptop died. Unfortunately there weren't lot of places to plug in my charger so I left. I liked that they serve Shoofly Baked goods which are completely Vegan! If I'm ever in the neighborhood again I'll stop by to try out their avocado toast! read more

Coffee roaster in front of shop so look forward to an olfactory treat while you await great coffee or chai. But breakfast treats are superb tasty health bombs. Toasts with beans radishes fennel pickled onions and beets. And that is just one choice. Porridge like you've never had and will crave again. Come but don't tell anyone else. I love this place! I'm usually there at least once a week to get some work done. I've had their chai (very tasty!) and a few of their sandwich/lunch options. Tasty all around. The shop is a beautiful place to work, the WiFi is fast and reliable, and the music playing is good but not distracting. All of the employees I've interacted with have been lovely too. Also: they occasionally rent out the downstairs for evening events and I went to a Women in Science Portland event last night. It was a ton of fun. Great work, Guilder! Keep it up! read more

My new favorite place for tea, coffee, breakfast, lunch, a sweet snack fresh from Fleur de Lis bakery or happy hour. Friendly and a great vibe! The breakfast and savory toasts are sheer perfection, familiar and unique at the same time, and good any time of day, same goes for the porridge with homemade jam floating on top, and the happy hour snacks are excellent and not fried or greasy. Welcome to the neighborhood Guilder! THIS is the best coffee shop in Portland! P.S. An earlier review mentions a long wait time. My husband and I have been here more than 10 times and never waited more than 5 or so minutes for our food, and the pastries are always as fresh as they are at Fleur de Lis, which is extremely fresh. read more

I'm procrastinating with work but hey wow thank God for this place. Our hood is a bit of a desert when it comes to that third wave of coffee and one of the most important things about third-wave coffee is being able to walk there. Loved my Americano even if the roast isn't exactly my taste (but I count that as a plus because: diversity and, if you knew me, you wouldn't want me being the taste arbiter of the world). The wife's cappo was also great. And the Fleur de Lis pastries are a nice touch (keep it in the neighborhood!). I'll be back lots but I have a few notes: Using that front space as lab/retail area is really a bummer. Prime table area and when you walk by and look in the window instead of a cheery cafe all you see is BOXES. There's all that space at the back where no one really wants to sit but might spend time perusing... Also: Outside! Need more outside seats! Maybe in the back? Maybe ask Mr. Landlord if you can filch a parking spot for a temporary picnic table? I say this all with love! So glad y'all are here. I might even bring a few Gulden I have laying around for that bowl! read more

Guilder is leaning into being a friendly neighborhood coffee shop. Kind people, modern but not sterile interior with a subtle Princess Bride theme. The menu is a mix of pastries and light salad-y options including, yes, the notorious avocado toast. The coffee's lovely; the cocktails are interesting. (Beet bloody mary, mmmm.) Guilder hosted my wedding rehearsal dinner (food brought in from elsewhere) recently in its pretty upstairs room for the price of the drinks, and it was a perfect space for a 20-ish person informal party. The owners couldn't have been kinder or more attentive, and our out-of-towners got to see real Portland hospitality in action, down to cheerful recounting of the pedigrees of the drinking vinegars, with not even a touch of hipster attitude. Truly great people. read more

This is the coffee shop I go to if I'm also hungry or know I'll soon be hungry. It is my favorite coffee shop food in town, and sometimes I come just for the food alone. It's super filling/not boring/delicious, lots of veg/vegan options. My recent favorite is the savory white bean toast with avocado and their house hot sauce added :) I don't drink coffee often so I can't speak to that aspect but I do like their Chai a lot- good spicy/sweet balance. It isn't exactly a cozy kind of coffee shop, better for getting work done or enjoying a quick pick me up. They serve beer and wine which is also a nice perk! read more

I can't be happier to have Guilder open in my neighborhood. We've needed a non chain establishment in Alameda. Coffee is awesome easily a contender for top five roasters in Portland and they keep expanding the menu with tasty light entrees and snacks. The owners and staff are friendly and make this a pleasant place to hang out or just stop in. I've only once been disappointed when I didn't make it in before the butter croissants sold out (my bad), but my delicious latte helped a lot. Welcome to the neighborhood! read more

What a neighborhood gem. Guilder has it all - great food/drinks, a SUPER friendly staff, and a gorgeous environment. It's work-friendly (free wifi), kid-friendly (can fit a stroller in line and not feel like a jerk)... they even have a sweet little outdoor patio in the front to enjoy the sun or sit with your pup. It's rare for a coffee shop to accommodate all those things in the same space, but they do it so well. Baby changing table in the spacious bathrooms. Lots of seating, bright and airy. Their food is quality - it's nourishing, unique, healthy, and delicious. Can't say enough about this incredible community gathering place. There are outlets and another seating area upstairs. The downstairs area is pretty small.

How's the wait here at like 10am on a saturday?

It depends on how many are in your party but we almost never see people (2-4ppl) waiting for a table at that time. It's counter service and we have different seating options (high-tops, window seats, tables of 2-4, and long communal tables).

The single origin was light and fruity as I'd expect, nice acidity and a crisp finish, whereas the house blend, their Deviation Blend, had a stronger body and less acidity, but still managed to get in some good notes of dried fruit and a nutty flavor. Both were perfectly pulled, with nary a bitter or sour note to be found. All in all, a great little quick trip for coffee, a place I'd definitely go to again.
