Randomly found this place and decided to stop in. They have recently moved and while looking confused was redirected to their new location less than a block down the road. What makes this place unique is that they have beer and wine available for sale too. There is also an outdoor patio and it looks like they may have music in the evenings. The barista was super friendly and while enjoying my horchata hot brew noticed numerous regulars and such a friendly vibe by all employees. Honestly the friendly and sincere service really makes this coffee shop stand out. Wouldn't hesitate to stop in again soon. read more

His roaster is the heart of Mudd Works - literally, right there in the center of the coffee shop. The aroma is extraordinary, creating a magical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sense of anticipation. Feast your eyes upon, touch, smell and taste everything that is being created at the roastery. This place is really, really small. When we visited there were probably 6 customers inside and with that few people, it felt claustrophobic. I could barely turn around and there was no place to sit unless we squeezed in with the strangers at a huge table taking up most of the teeny room. The barista was nice and wanted to know if we wanted to taste coffee before we selected it. I told her that we just needed medium roast coffees and I added a pastry. We sat outside at a table next to Glisan. It was chilly. The pastry wasn't great and the coffee was hair-on-your-chest strong. I can see and understand why people who like very strong coffee like this place and truthfully, the outdoor seating has it's own charm...but we won't be back. read more

I decided to try Mudd Works for beans, so I ordered a pound of French roast online. The local delivery option said it would take 40 - 50 mins for delivery. I thought it was just a fluke, or a mistake in the checkout process. I went back to work expecting the beans the next day. But nooooo 45 mins later my phone rang and there was a knock at my door and voila! Beans! Now that's service! Bonus I brewed up some French roast this morning and it is delightful. Great small coffee shop in Montavilla. The owner is very knowledgeable and kind. My favorite is the 'Pooh Bear.' A nice frothy oat milk latte with a hint of honey. However, he also offers an horchata cold brew if you're looking for super sweet. The hours are not consistent as the owner is having a tough time finding staff for his shop.
