This place is really, really small. When we visited there were probably 6 customers inside and with that few people, it felt claustrophobic. I could barely turn around and there was no place to sit unless we squeezed in with the strangers at a huge table taking up most of the teeny room. The barista was nice and wanted to know if we wanted to taste coffee before we selected it. I told her that we just needed medium roast coffees and I added a pastry. We sat outside at a table next to Glisan. It was chilly. The pastry wasn't great and the coffee was hair-on-your-chest strong. I can see and understand why people who like very strong coffee like this place and truthfully, the outdoor seating has it's own charm...but we won't be back.

Everything here is wonderful! Amazing place to have a latte, talk about coffee. The owner and his employees were fantastic as well. Looking forward to trying every single roast they have. I'm glad that they ship. Will be sending some of these coffee beans to friends. This place is a Portland must try.

The ice cream machine was down for a couple days but Marco and his staff where creative and made popsicles out of their oatly ice cream (vegan, dairy and gluten free) This is a great stop to get amazing coffee and good tasty snacks.

Marco carefully selects the coffee he roasts on the premises. Over the many (many!) years I have gone to Mudd Works Roastery for coffee, he has shown his knowledge and skill for choosing a variety of wonderful coffees. He is friendly, kind and courteous. He makes an incredible horchata FROM SCRATCH! And the pastries from local bakeries are quite delicious. The people who come in are the kind you can have a conversation with and feel happy about it, even if some of them are a little grumpy.

I decided to try Mudd Works for beans, so I ordered a pound of French roast online. The local delivery option said it would take 40 - 50 mins for delivery. I thought it was just a fluke, or a mistake in the checkout process. I went back to work expecting the beans the next day. But nooooo 45 mins later my phone rang and there was a knock at my door and voila! Beans! Now that's service! Bonus I brewed up some French roast this morning and it is delightful. Thanks, Mudd Works!!

Nice place to visit. Had a lovely chat with the barista and some REALLY good coffee. If I lived around here I'd be a regular for sure.

Everything is delicious here. The coffee is roasted in house and so good. Try the Horchata for a special treat. Great local business.

One silky sip and BAM--there it was, just the faintest, flirty little wink of anise (not the aggressive red-vine-at-the-movie-theater kind, more like the sophisticated Scandinavian cousin who wears turtlenecks and reads poetry). It danced with the chocolatey espresso and the perfectly steamed milk like they'd been rehearsing this trio their entire lives. The foam? A cloud that clearly went to barista finishing school. The temperature? Hot enough to feel loved, not so hot I had to do the sad penguin dance while it cooled. And the vibe? I'm pretty sure time slowed down so my taste buds could send me a thank-you note. If you told me yesterday that black licorice belongs in a cappuccino, I would've side-eyed you into next week. Today I'm over here drafting adoption papers for this drink. Futura, you absolute sorcerers--take my money, my heart, and my previously held beliefs about flavored coffee. Five stars, zero notes, endless refills in my dreams.

We took a last-morning stroll through downtown Portland and, on the walk back to our hotel,…read morerealized we wanted something warm and a short pause. That's how we ended up at Courier Coffee Roasters and it turned out to be the perfect pit stop. The shop itself is small and unassuming, but the moment we walked in it felt inviting and calm. The staff was genuinely wonderful. My partner ordered an Americano and was asked which cup he preferred, two different styles. He asked if they were the same size, and that simple question turned into the most endearing moment. Since the barista didn't know, she checked the bottoms of the cups for size markings (no luck), then filled one with water to see if it would pour evenly into the other, and finally put them on the scale. Verdict: same size. The curiosity and genuine desire to give us a real answer was just lovely. I ordered a hojicha tea, which was very well prepared and hit the spot. My partner said his coffee was smooth and really good. We also grabbed a pear muffin, nicely done, with generous chunks of pear (skin on, which I loved). My partner ordered a chocolate chunk cookie, which disappeared quickly. There was a record player on the counter with a mellow morning album playing, adding to the relaxed feel. The whole space and everyone working there felt warm, friendly, and welcoming. If you live nearby or are visiting like we were, this is a great place to slow down, warm up, and enjoy genuinely good coffee, tea, and hospitality.

My kids were particular fascinated by the working record player at the counter. The staff was super nice and even explained to my kids how the record player worked.
