I reached out to John and he was here that afternoon to access the fallen tree and how best to get it off of my house. He gave me a price to remove the entire tree, haul away all of debris and grind out the stump. Mind you this tree was every bit of 6' at the base and was not a small task. The very next day John and his crew were at my house clearing the tree that was against the structure taking every measure not to do any further damage. Once that was done they proceeded to take the rest of the tree down taking every precaution to minimize damage to my yard. Once the tree was down and removed they ground out the stump, raked up and left as little impact as they possibly could considering the scope of the job. A month later I had the misfortune of finding a huge crack in in a 120' tall pine tree that looked to be ready to let go at any moment and that too would have made a direct hit on my home. I called John and he was at my house that very same day to look at the job. He secured the tree with straps at the cracked portion and assured me he would rearrange his schedule and get here that Saturday to start the removal of the tree as this was a priority. Well John and his crew did NOT show up on Saturday, they showed up earlier on Friday because we were due for a storm on Saturday and John did not want to leave it to chance for that tree to come down. He climbed that tree and limbed it off to reduce the exposure it would have during the storm. He returned that Sunday with his crew and proceeded to take the rest of the tree down, chipped it up and when they left at the end of the day you couldn't ask for a neater job. If you need a tree removed this is with-out a doubt the most professional, on time, reactive company out there that will do a quality job and you will get the best value for your money and I am willing to put my name to this testimonial. We had great difficulty getting them to finish the job in a timely manner and the job was not finished. Much of the work they did do laying bluestone will have to be redone by competent landscaper. I would not recommend them. That said, they did return to clean up site debris when asked.

Bart Hill's team was courteous, talked us through the issues (there are power lines right next to the tree), friendly and professional and gave us a very reasonable price, with an estimated time when they'd be able to do the job. They came while we were away for a few days and I do not have words adequate to describe how pleased we are with results. They left our yard immaculately clean and tidy, treated our property with respect and delivered an excellent job, ahead of schedule. This was no easy assignment - the tree was enormous, perilously close to our house and must have been a massive chore to remove and clean up. He did a great job trimming the shrubs. Unfortunately he could not clean out the beds as requested. Our understanding was that he would dig everything out of the beds. Instead he weed whacked everything and it all grew back. He also agreed to cut down a small tree which he did not do. I have contacted him since last October to find out if he was planning to come take the tree out but he has never gotten back to me. So now we have things growing back, the tree is still here and we have received no response and no refund for the work not done. We are very disappointed.

I found Earth & Stone while looking for excavators to remove around 60 stumps some maple, but…read moremostly apple, in an old orchard my family owns. Since i plan on farming this plot I needed someone who could bring in the right equipment to rip out the stumps without costing me an arm and a leg. I spoke with several contractors with excavators and their estimates were no less than $5,000. Blake Becker of Earth & Stone comes over for a free estimate and with his equipment can complete the work in a day for a much more reasonable price. I hired them and the following week he and his son Adam ripped them out in less then a day and piles the stumps neatly in a corner of the field. Adam then rakes the soil around the stump holes to where their is almost no depression and piles up the branches and trunks I had cut down into several piles for burning. In conclusion I am very pleased with their work, their price, and the level of communication they maintained throughout this project. I would recommend them to anyone in need of excavation work.

J&A installed a metal roof on our house with the previous owner. Not only did they use the wrong…read morescrews that actually punctured the metal at the peak and caused leaks along the entire length of the roof. They also installed the transition from metal roof to shingles in a way that it caused a leak that can't be fixed without re-doing the entire roof. You get what you pay for - the lower cost comes at a price of workmanship. Stay away if you want to protect your house!

J&A roofing reshingled my roof in April of 2024. They worked fast and did a good job, but there…read morewere a few problems, one being that they failed to shingle all parts of the roof that were included in the contract, which reads "Remove existing roofing down to wood decking from entire house sloped roof areas only". The two areas not done do not have steep slopes, yet they are certainly sloped. Since I do not go on the roof, I did not see this failure for awhile. I didn't think anything of it when there were 10-15 packs of shingles left over, until later when I saw that these areas had not been done. In addition, the ceiling in a room upstairs goes up to the roof and many, many roof in jails came through it. Eventually I hired someone else to cut all of the nails off. I called and sent pictures twice. The woman that I spoke with said hat she would forward everythIng to Fred and he would get in toush with me. It has been months and I have had no response. My husband passed away in November of 2023 and I am dealing with many things that are new to me. I feel somewhat taken advantage of.

I'm sharing my personal experience with RJ General Contracting LLC of Saugerties, NY during a home…read morerenovation. This reflects what I observed, what I documented, and what independent professionals later communicated to me. I paid in full upfront for a complete electrical upgrade and new window installation, which I now regret. I expected the project to follow the schedule in our signed contract, but it did not. It has now been over a year. Workers who were present early on became less present over time. The contractor states his crew was on site full‑time, but that did not match what I personally observed or what neighbors reported. Communication became inconsistent, deadlines were missed, and progress slowed significantly. Because of ongoing delays and work that licensed professionals later described as deficient, I ended the contract. The contractor says he was not given time to finish, but my documentation reflects many delays and reassurances over a 10‑month period. Independent inspectors and engineers identified issues with window installation, electrical work, and structural elements. Their written reports suggest that several items require revision to meet safety and code standards. This is particularly important to me, my family, and guests who will be staying there. It was onlly after termination that I received change orders. They were not accompanied by the detailed invoices I had been requesting for months. The contractor has still not provided supporting documentation, and it has been well over a year. In my opinion, and based on conversations with other professionals and their written reports, the amounts listed are extremely high, exaggerated and inconsistent with the work completed. A substantial amount of work remains unfinished or needs revision. I've attached communication and documents related to my experience so others can review the information directly and form their own conclusions. For clarity, the contract ended due to repeated delays, missed contractual deadlines, and work that inspectors and other licensed professionals documented as not meeting code requirements. These findings were especially concerning to me because my family and guests will be staying in the home. The contractor maintains he was not given time to finish. My records show many delays and reassurances throughout the project, and significant work remains incomplete. From my perspective, he was given multiple opportunities to complete the work that had been paid for in full 10 months ago, specifically the electrical upgrade and full window installation. I'm sharing my experience so others can make informed decisions. In my opinion, it's important to research contractors thoroughly, check references, and be cautious with large upfront payments.
