J&A installed a metal roof on our house with the previous owner. Not only did they use the wrong screws that actually punctured the metal at the peak and caused leaks along the entire length of the roof. They also installed the transition from metal roof to shingles in a way that it caused a leak that can't be fixed without re-doing the entire roof. You get what you pay for - the lower cost comes at a price of workmanship. Stay away if you want to protect your house! read more

J&A roofing reshingled my roof in April of 2024. They worked fast and did a good job, but there were a few problems, one being that they failed to shingle all parts of the roof that were included in the contract, which reads "Remove existing roofing down to wood decking from entire house sloped roof areas only". The two areas not done do not have steep slopes, yet they are certainly sloped. Since I do not go on the roof, I did not see this failure for awhile. I didn't think anything of it when there were 10-15 packs of shingles left over, until later when I saw that these areas had not been done. In addition, the ceiling in a room upstairs goes up to the roof and many, many roof in jails came through it. Eventually I hired someone else to cut all of the nails off. I called and sent pictures twice. The woman that I spoke with said hat she would forward everythIng to Fred and he would get in toush with me. It has been months and I have had no response. My husband passed away in November of 2023 and I am dealing with many things that are new to me. I feel somewhat taken advantage of. read more

In early spring, 2025,during a windy rainstorm, we noticed a small leak in our kitchen ceiling. It turned out to be a wind blown anomaly, but it brought up the question of how old was our roof. When it was replaced long ago, it was meant to have a life of twenty five years. Digging through old records we found a receipt from J and A Roofing, Siding & Insulation Co. final contract payment dated May, 1987. Wow, thirty eight years!! We decided to be proactive and have the roof replaced before a major problem might arise. The first roofing contractor we contacted was J&A Roofing of Kingston. It turned out to be the third generation of the same family company still in business. We went through the form of getting an inspection and quote to replace our roof, but our minds were already decided to deal with this company. Any family organization that has lasted through the past thirty eight years in th Hudson Valley and is still in business has to be doing something right. We accepted their quote. The actual installation was almost anti-climatic, passage of a few weeks, one busy noisy day, the outside cleaned up, and we had a new roof. Throughout the experience we were treated pleasantly, professionally and reasonably. We would definitely recommend them. read more

I would leave zero stars if possible. They left me with multiple leaks and then blamed my skylights. I hired someone to repair the leaks and they said there was nothing wrong with my skylights. J & A either didn't replace the flashing or did so incorrectly. There were also leaks from my woodstove chimney. Paid these thieves $17,000 for a leaky roof. They do a shoddy job and take no responsibility for it. Horrible. read more

Look elsewhere. Fast to give you an estimate and maybe even get the job done. BUT if you have a leak you have to call and call and call again to maybe get a response. First leak the guy who came out said "We found some rusted nails" WHAT? The roof is only 4 years old. Don't you use galvanized nails on a roof? I don't know...seems fishy to me. read more

J and A installed a new metal roof on my home. Within months rust appeared on part of the roof. I contacted them in December 2011, and they have yet to take any action despite 6 months of them telling me "we will come out to look this week". Beware - they are not standing behind their product despite the warranty. I am now going to have to take legal action so that they will respond. Think twice before using a contractor who does this - I am terribly disappointed i them. read more

This is one of the very few companies that I would rate less then one star. J & A put a roof on my house three years ago, and it has leaked ever since. Numerous phone calls, and at least five letters got some attention, but the people they sent did little and the leaks always returned. They don't know how to counter-flash a brick chimney. I should have sued, I guess. I ran out of energy, and came to believe that J & A couldn't fix the problem if they wanted to. The firm is simply terrible, and way overpriced. I have had to hire someone else to fix the problem. Stay away if you care at all about staying dry. read more

I had a roof put on several years ago. Developed a leak and started calling around March 2019 after about 3 weeks of calling and no one showing up the leak stopped. The leak returned about 2 months ago now. Started calling again after numerous back and forth messages with Nate he stated I was next in the list. Then another week went by and no one returned my calls, as the leak continued. Week 4 came and I found their email and So I tried that. Nate responded stating that they had gone out the day before. Never called and didn't know where the leak was. Got an email stating my chimney needed work as it had gapes in the mortar. Called Nate got no response. Sent me a text instead stating I needed to now speak to the person who installed the roof. I went up in the roof and found black caulking all over the place gobs on the roof, small holes on the siding filled and all around the brick of the chimney. Also found the tip to the caulking tub along with a big screw in my driveway. I am less than pleased and never wanted someone at my home without be being there as I thought they would want to know where the leak was??? Very poor customer service and would not recommend them. read more

J&A is very easy to work with. Our communication with them was great . . . very responsive to our questions/concerns. I was very impressed with the workmanship and how the whole project was orchestrated . . . guys show up in morning, 10 minutes later they are on the roofing taking off the old shingles, draping the house to protect it . . . about an hour later the shingles arrive and are hoisted up to the roof . . . shortly after that truck left, the dumpster showed up . . . about 10 hours later the job is finished . . . WOW! I've seen other companies take days to do smaller projects. Cleanup was on going throughout the project so made final cleanup a breeze. Thanks again Nate and Co.! read more

Siding and windows. Started the work then disappeared. House not wrapped or insulated before siding installed. Siding coming off in spots and has discolored along with the shutters. Each window opening was pre-measured but the new windows were randomly installed-not where it was intended! AVOID! read more

The roof held up through the winter and we have not had any problems and don't anticipate any. They cleaned up after the job. I hired J&A to re-shingle my house in Boiceville. After my preliminary email inquiry, they immediately drove out to the house to measure and have an estimate ready -- which was in line with my expectations. I dealt with Fred, a co-owner, who was prompt and clear in all communications, email and phone, and we scheduled the job very quickly. The crew's work was even harder than anticipated because after removing the existing shingles, there was no plywood underneath, which meant they had to add on 52 sheets of 1/2 ply before proceeding to the shingles. But the supervisor quickly dealt with this challenge, and the guys worked almost nonstop over a 12-hour day, and were fast, thoroughly professional and very tidy at end of day. If I could give J & A less than 1 star I would. I had J & A re-roof a barn on my property with a fully finished first floor. The roof it's self was stripped off and completed in a timely manner, however in the day that the roof was removed we had a rain storm that completely flooded the entire barn causing over $40,000 in damages. J & A was absolutely miserable to deal with, denying responsibility, not providing their insurance contact, making many promises to send over cleaners and mediation services and never following through. We are still in the middle of this battle, but please save yourself the massive headache and DO NOT hire J & A. It is completely NOT WORTH IT. read more
