When I called them, instead of making it right they decided just to refund me the difference for the food I received. Great dish! I had the ricotta stuffed raviloi in a cherry cream sauce with mushrooms and was surprised at all the richness and flavor I experienced. The sauce was not your typical cream sauce which I liked because it had a rich cherry infused flavor that captivated the entire dish. The owner, Luis, is one of the most dedicated restaurateurs I have ever met. He genuinely cares about the food he is serving, as well as the people! Gourmet Italian takeout with a table or two out front, they have been quality since the day they opened their doors. The shrimp salad is crispy and garlicky, the pasta is creamy and al dente, as it should be. The staff is always smiling, and more time than not you will deal directly with the owner. Thought of going to the nearby, as in right on the beach, food stand of the Fisherman's restaurant but neither of us were in the mood for fried foods. It was fine for us, but it's definitely just in a parking lot... shared with a 7-11. Anyway, it's all about the food! Arugula Salad: Yummmm... What a refreshing side, instead of chips or fries, on a hot summer day. Not that there is even a choice to get fries or chips, let's just say it was just what we wanted. The dressing was lemony goodness and can I just say the shaved parmigiano was DELICIOUS. Chicken Sandwich: Can I just say, "yessss..." I loved this sandwich. Everything, from bread to cheese to the meat was just delicious. I loved the ciabatta bread, soft and warm, but crusty enough to hold the sandwich together - loved. The brie cheese was melted and gooey, the chicken was moist, and the roasted tomatoes were the perfect mix of smoky/tang that really made this sandwich great. We have gone to Guichos as long as I can remember it being there. It has a limited menu but each item listed is done to perfection. The roasted tomatoes make everything special. I often get the tortellini in cream sauce, it has the perfect blend of seasonings and simply makes us happy! The house salad is huge and enough for two. It comes with a piece of garlic bread and this dressing that should be bottled and sold separately. The chicken sandwich is also amazing with the brie and some kind of spicy sauce for a slight little kick. We have ordered takeout when we have visitors from out of state and/or out of country. When they return for a subsequent visits, they request that we go for dinner at Guichos. Our friend from Japan has even brought co-workers on business trips and taken them there to give it a try. read more

Is this considered 4-5 star dining out here? I wasn't impressed, yelpers when you give a place an average of 4.5 stars I expect an awesome place. Usually I'm in agreement with you but here I disagree. I'm personally going to chalk this disagreement up to location, maybe the food out here is more hum drum and therefore receiving higher marks based on that (San Clemente, that's right I said it.) OK, so the place does have a small view of the ocean from one seat in the restaurant, which I had thankfully. While my friend and I had lunch the place had a handful of people in it and wasn't busy by any means. Food came out in a slightly above average wait time (20m+) with slightly below average food, but the one female employee that took our order/served us was pleasant. My sausage sandwich was OK, cooked pretty good but no real pizazz. No sauce, just sausage with onions and peppers on a toasted big bun. My friend ordered pasta, which he said is just okay.. Which I find interesting because he's not a picky eater, and usually always has good things to say. Long story short, you'll never see me here again, I don't recommend you go, drive further in LA,, or go back to SD, this place is no way 4.5 star material!! Happy eating! read more

I have lived very close to this place for several years and have tried it a number of times and have been underwhelmed every time. It's not that the food is bad, it just has no flavor. At all. I have tried several menu choices over the years and ran into the same thing each time. Meatball sub? Blandest meatballs I've ever had. Marinara covering them was ok but couldn't make up for flavorless meatballs. Linguini Alfredo? Perfectly cooked pasta covered in flavorless white sauce. Not "subtly flavored", just flavorless. Same thing each time I've been there. Most recently my fiancé wanted to try it over my objections. She noted the same thing: the pasta was cooked well but the sauce was bland. Presentation is fine, service is acceptable (i.e. nothing to either praise or decry), but flavor just isn't there. read more

Guichos is a family owned restaurant that specializes in high quality food at a reasonable price. The first time I went I was told that I had to get the chicken sandwich and I did. Wow was it good. Grilled chicken on chibatta roll with a chipotle mayo and roasted tomatoes with some brie in there as well. I have also tried the Fusilli w/ Pesto and that was amazing as well. Pasta was a perfect al dente with a light coating of their creamy pesto. You havent been to San Clemente until you have tried Guicho's. read more

Just in San Clemente for an afternoon and was so happy to find this place courtesy of Yelp. The owner was there and very nice, the food, wow. The food was so fresh and delicious. I had the Chicken sandwich and it came with a salad (very green and fresh). I would very highly recommend this for anyone who is driving through town or in town looking for something fresh to eat. It was bland at first BUT when you let it settle overnight and reheat for lunch its BOMB! Nice fat shrimps were filling for me mmmm. Again it was tasteless at first but overnight settling helps ALOT. Now the grilled chicken salad was BOMB but with my Kens steakhouse dressing, I cheated, I didn't use their balsamic dressing, I don't do those foo foo dressings. I tell you this salad is so good its with mixed greens, chicken breast, tomatoes, red onions, roasted bell peppers, fontina cheese, whatever box they use for take it, its heavy duty and keeps the greens extra crisp even after 3 days in the fridge !!!! It was still good and fresh as if I just ordered it! Visited a year and half ago... super late review. Food is delicious! We were there for lunch and then returned for dinner on the same day! Since we were on vacation there without a car, getting to the restaurant was an adventure... it involved buses and taxis but was so very worth it! For lunch we had the jumbo mushroom raviolli and hearts of palm salad. So good! Plus the service was amazing, the owner Luis was attentive and friendly. In the evening our experience was not equally pleasant. The order was wrong (chicken raviolli was good though) and we were sent next door to buy a soda. Not the best, not the worst. I only eat here as much as I do because my wife likes it. Personally I think it tastes like day-old italian food that you'd bring home from a restaurant and re-heat in the microwave. We got takeout from Guicho's as my girlfriend raved about a couple of their dishes. Our order was significantly delayed - an hour when quoted a 30 minute wait time - due to confusion on some other large order. I got the sausage fusilli and the hearts of palm salad and while neither were bad I was sufficiently let down by both dishes. The quality of ingredient and overall flavor was not what is routinely expected of a restaurant. The pasta dish was completely devoid of an emulsified sauce - the dish was "cooked" in chicken broth but that consisted of a watery pool at the bottom of my dish; it tasted very bland with zero seasoning of any kind. Additionally, the description listed caramelized onions but the onions were merely lightly sautéed, further robbing the dish of any depth of flavor. The salad was fine but the quality of ingredient was not beyond anything you can get at the supermarket across the street. After hearing my displeasure, my girlfriend said I could try her dishes that are her go to's and the reason for our ordering from Guicho's in the first place. She got the tortellini and chicken salad - again nothing was "bad" but the quality and flavor was not any better than what I could come up with in 15 minutes in my own kitchen. The sauce on the tortellini at least had flavor but it tasted remarkably similar to chef boyardee and the chicken on the salad was aggressively dry. While the wait was frustrating, I understand we are in unique times and the teenagers working the register do not deserve the wrath of frustrated customers but this appears to be a trend so I feel it's worth mentioning. More disappointing is the actual quality of food as Italian food is traditionally flavorful and an easy genre of food for a restaurant to produce yet the food at Guicho's tasted bland and entirely store bought. read more

The amazing smell of garlic fills the air outside Guichos and completely fills your soul when you walk through the door ;) The customer service here is great, I really appreciate a friendly person that answers the phone or greats customers, they are very friendly and really efficient. Great job They have two locations although I always order from this one on El Camino cause its close to my house. I've gotten some of their pasta dishes and salads, all very flavorful but not heavy. Don't be deceived by the modest look in the front of the restaurant. Upon opening way back when, the delicious food has always screamed freshness, quality, and consistency. Add to that the unmatched customer service in one of the cleanest restaurants you'll ever step foot in and you will see why locals have made this their go to favorite over many other fancy places around town.
