This is one of my favorite lunch spots in Nob Hill! I love the lunch special that has a little bit of everything. The fried Yucca in the cream sauce is the best! It's heavy enough to last me through the day without being overly stuffed (I usually don't finish the rice and stick to the salad & protein). They also give you a lemonade with the special that is sooo good! My husband loves the cubano and pernil sandwich. Everything on their menu is so authentic. I lived in Costa Rica for a bit, and this is the closest thing I can find to the meals I had there. It's a plus if you order in Spanish! read more

I suggest heading directly from the airport to Guava Tree for lunch before doing anything further in ABQ. Cubano sandwich was perfect. Arepa and fillings were great. Can't wait to go back. read more

Guava Tree Cafe - Cuban sandwich and amarillos; arepa with veggies, yuca frita and tostones. - Latin American Near Me - Albuquerque, New Mexico

Great spot for some tasty arepas and some other latin delights. I actually tried both locations and they are equally good, just that the one in Tin can alley is a bit more comercial and by that I mean it seems more busy like with a chain restaurant kind of feel. Definitely give them a try if you're in the mood for some latin flavors. read more

My new favorite lunch spot, I wish this place was open longer so I had more time to eat more food every day. This location is in Nob Hill and is in a wonderful, cozy building with a few outdoor seating options. The arepas and sandwiches are INCREDIBLE. Please try the yucca fries- and get extra sauce. That stuff is addictive. I had a delicious drink made of lemonade with cinnamon. It was flavorful and quite refreshing! The arepa pabellon that I devoured was a combo of the most incredible flavors and textures. It was stuffed with black beans, cheese, beef and plantains. Occasionally, I will have dreams about this sandwich... The menu includes coffee drinks and specials; be sure to put this on your list of lunch destinations! read more

One of the best Cuban sandwiches I have ever had. Fresh authentic ingredients. All the right flavors. Clearly made fresh daily and the owners take pride in the things they put on the menu. Service is a bit slow. Took over 15 minutes to make one sandwich. But the food is so good it's worth the wait. I will be back to try other items! read more

This was my first visit to Guava Tree Cafe and also Tin Can Alley. The food at guava tree was delicious! I had the Cuban sandwich with the yucca fries. If you have not been to Tin Can Alley on Alameda go check it out there are several different little restaurants along with Santa Fe brewery. They practice COVID 19 safety. It's awesome! read more

We had Cuban Sandwiches with Fried Yuccas and Rice and Bean Bowls. While it was good, it was far from it's high recommendations and I've had many Cubans that I would count as better than this. A little disappointed after the build-up. read more

When I was in high school I worked at a Cuban restaurant. I had the pleasure of dishing up ropa vieja, pollo ajillo, and fried plantains to hungry patrons. Guava Tree is a nostalgic trip down memory lane of delicious Latin American/Cuban/Caribbean cuisine. I dig the relaxed vibe that reminds me of the islands and the food is top notch. The lunch special today was a version of a ropa vieja plate with every side you could ever want (plantains, yucca, salad, rice, black beans, etc) plus a tasty lemonade. The arepas are also true to their name and filled with all the goodies you can handle. Try a cafecito (or a larger bowl if you need to stay awake til tomorrow) and you'll be energized for whatever you have in store for your afternoon. read more

We love trying new restaurants now that our youngest son (a very picky eater) is in college. This restaurant has been on my list for a long time, and I am so happy today we decided to try the Guava Tree Cafe! The menu on their web page is far better at describing the food than the one available in the restaurant. I chose the Arepa Pabellon with shredded beef, Cuban-style black beans, sweet plantains and fresco cheese, all in between two flat corn rounds. It also came with a green plantain round with a salsa on top on the side. So messy, and so good! I wish the sweet plantains had lasted to the bottom, as they were so perfect. My spouse got the Cuban sandwich with 3 Yucca Root fries. She said that the sandwich was excellent. We both chose a fruit drink (mango and guava) in water; Cool and tasty. Next step? Bring my best friend here to try the Cuban and continue to explore the menu! read more

Simply amazing. Non-pretentious comfortable environment where you can sit down and eat an authentic plate of hispanic food. The mango juice made with water literally brought me back to my grandmother's kitchen in Colombia. The arepa pabellon is packed with flavor and love; tender shredded beef, black beans, maduro, and a savory arepa combine to give you a dreamy flavor. My partner ordered the special of the day and he literally scraped the plate clean. Shredded beef, generous portion of white rice, black beans, and Yucca. That Yucca and the sauce the serve with it is the stuff of dreams. Highly recommend! read more

Finally was able to try this place. I had the lunch special and it was good. I was not a great fan of the meat it just tasted so so. I did LOVE the Arepa Del Perro was perfection!!!!! The platanos were also good just few were a little to hard. I will definitely try others items in future visits! read more

I was in the mood for something different and I enjoy Cuban sandwiches. I had the Arepa Pabellón, my mother had the Pernil and my boyfriend had the Guava Pollito. Everything was delicious! The only thing I didn't care for was the corn meal patty "bread" it was really thick and mushy and made it hard to swallow. The filings of my sandisk was amazing so I picked that out and enjoyed it. The lemonade was very different but refreshing with cloves and cinnamon. The reason for the 2 starts and not more is the bathroom was disgusting! The light switch was converted with old paint and gross black goo. The trim on the floor had dust and grime on it, the walls were dirty and the door had dark "water stains" running down it. I didn't think the order area was very clean either. The counter was sticky and as drink area, where they make your drinks was unkempt and liquid on the counter. If the bathroom is dirty, the rest of the establishment is going to dirty. If I had seen the bathroom before we ordered, we would not have stayed. I don't care how good the food was, we won't be going back. read more

The Amigos basket, with tostones, fried plantains and yucca is definitely made to share. All are made to order and delicious. Of the two sauces that were served with it -- both excellent -- the white garlic mojo was my favorite. The Arepa de Perro was filled to bursting with shredded pork, avocado, and fried plantains. Delicious! The lemonade, prepared to order, was amazing (so much so that I ordered another one for the road). Even though I had leftovers, I ordered a guava cream cheese pastry for later -- also delicious. Will be back to taste their other arepas, sandwiches, and entrees. read more

The wait to order was slow mainly because it was the lunch rush and only 1 person serving/making drinks/handling cash. Once I ordered the food was ready within 5! I ordered the cubano, the arepa pabellano, and a mango+maracuya smoothie. The food was fantastic! My cubano had 2-3 different types of pork and I was able to taste each distinct flavor. The sauces they added on the side were great especially the green/white sauce. The arepa pabellano is flavorful and very filling. It has plantains, black beans, +shredded beef! My smoothie was not overtly sweet and a little tart from the maracuya(passion fruit) read more

Really great gem in the heart of Albuquerque. We stopped in for a quick bite and was treated to a burst of culinary experience. When a meal is this alive and obviously carefully constructed, one knows the culinary masters take pride in their offerings. The food is, to put it mildly, a cornucopia of palate contrast. Visually the meal was placed perfectly, portions were well measured, and the service was not only attentive but friendly (something I have missed since covid). I will definitely be returning to try every item on the menu. read more

Disappointing. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great--especially for the price. We ordered two different arepas and they were both a little tough and chewy. The pernil sandwich was a very dry. We also got two amigos platters. The yuca fries were good, but the tostones did not taste fresh. We came around 2pm and they close at 4pm, so maybe that's why things didn't taste fresh. read more

I love this location in downtown Albuquerque. This area is home to some of the best restaurants in the city. The service is a little lacking with a less than friendly cashier and very casual order at the register and seat yourself vibe. It is a small, quaint place overall. Guy Fieri has also made a visit here. There is also a second location in Tin Can Alley. I am not familiar with Cuban food, but I do enjoy all types of cuisine and tend to enjoy trying new foods. My lunch today was ok. Nothing to really brag about. I ordered the Arepa Pabellon with yuca fries. Again, it was only ok. The arepa(much like a handheld stuffed sopapilla in presentation) was really over full of shredded beef and fried plantains and black beans. It was very messy, despite giving the appearance that one should be able to pick it up and eat it. Juice from the beans poured out of the bottom making it impossible to hold. The yuca fries were pretty good with the garlic sauce as in other reviews. The flavors in the arepa were bland, and any real taste came thru as sweet. I don't want sweets for lunch. It recently made a national list for "must try in Albuquerque" but I think you would be ok to skip. ‍ read more

Wow! Authentic Cuban eatery in New Mexico?!? This is an adorable Adobe home turned into a restaurant so the set up is a little tight but cozy. I have always wanted to try this place out and I finally did! The restaurant was cozy and somewhat small. The inside seating area can hold about 20 people at most; more seatings are outdoor at the patio. I wouldn't dare to sit outside at this time of the year even though they have umbrellas and shades. I ordered the lunch special (see picture). It also came with house made lemonade, which was very good - the perfect balance of sour and sweet! There are other sandwich options with fried yucca, which was delicious! The place was busy when I went there so this proves that it is a popular eatery place. As much as I enjoyed the tasty food, I walked away with food smell on my clothes. I know that it is a trade off of sitting in the AC vs. open air. Maybe a better vent in the kitchen can help solve this. read more

Food is so delicious! I love the yucca fries! The dipping sauce that comes with it is my favorite! There is vegetarian options too!

Cute, tucked away place in Nob Hill, off the main drag. The sweet plantains are alone worth going for, but the arepas are tasty too. They offer three kinds of arepas, various sandwiches, signature drinks and a few desserts. The yucca fries were too dry and greasy, and overall the food was pretty carb heavy. They offer a green salad as a side, which would lighten the meal. The tostone was reminiscent of cardboard, but the salsa on top was refreshing. Overall, once in a while, this is a good change of pace if you're craving a "meat and potatoes" kind of meal. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem. I just moved from Tampa, FL and have been on the hunt for some legit Cuban food and LET ME TELL YOU WHAT. This Cuban food is better than any I had ever tried in FL! I got the Guava Pollito, perfectly shredded chicken breast, melted provolone, caramelized onions & roasted mushrooms, all topped off with their signature house made garlic sauce. This sauce was life changing, I would smother all my food in it from now on if I could. I also had the first Cafe Con Leche that was worth anything since I left FL. They have so many things on their menu that I can't wait to try! Also their location is great and the staff was really friendly. I without a doubt will be back to eat my weight in garlic sauce!! read more

Delicious Cuban & Columbian food with good fast service and friendly owner & staff. I especially enjoy the Pelotero, but every arepa & sandwich have been excellent. The yuca fries, sweet plantains, and tostones are perfect and the aoli that the yuca fries are served with is perfect. The ajiaco has varied between good and excellent when I've ordered it. My favorite is the ropa vieja (shredded beef) which is both in the pelotero plate and arepa del perro, but really it's hard to go wrong with anything you order here. read more

I love everything about Guava Tree Cafe - the food, the service, just the overall environment felt very homey. It's the kind of place that I could bring a laptop to, grab a light lunch, and get some work done. For food, I had: - Guava Tree Salad - extremely refreshing with a little acid bite, filling enough for two, probably my favorite thing - Pernil Sandwich - a delicious panini with slow-roasted pork, caramelized onions, melted cheese, and house-made garlic sauce (I felt like the sauce was a game-changer) As a student, I value a chill environment where I can get work done, adequate seating areas, and most importantly delicious food at a reasonable price. Guava Tree Cafe hits all of these! Although I was just passing through the area, I will definitely go back the next time in Albuquerque! read more

Truly a Cuban themed treat in Nob Hill. I love Cubano sandwiches, and I was not disappointed by the Cubano offering found at this wonderful Nob Hill establishment. My wife decided on the Guava Pollito, and both sandwiches were made up of a rich combination of various tasty ingredients that worked together nicely to tickle one's palate and thus satisfy one's hunger. The grilled bread too was topnotch. The Amigos basket, which was made up of Yuca fries, tostones, and sweet plantains, complemented the meal well. One of my favorite places in town! As a plant-based eater, it's often difficult to find I place I can eat, that others can enjoy too. This is not the case with Guava Tree Cafe! The food always tastes so fresh! I get the arepa machilla and always get a big side of rice and beans because that's my weakness. Sometimes I get the pelotero with mushrooms and onion instead of the meat. They're so accommodating for me and I appreciate it greatly. The lemonade that comes with the pelotero is on point! I've been in a new phase of exploration lately. Trying new dishes that are foreign to me. This has been quite a delicious quest as Ive yet to be disappointed. I had never tried Cuban food, but I was quick to jump on the opportunity to go when a co-worker invited me. Guava Tree is a quaint little place located at the start of Nob Hill. Upon entering, you are definitely feeling the Cuban vibe, as they typically have on a selection of Cuban music to accompany the decor inside. On to the food. I had the Cubano sandwich with a side of Yucca fries. The food was quick to arrive, and it was delicious. After trying Cuban food for the first time, I am hooked. A lot of customers were also ordering fresh juice concoctions that looked delicious. I will definitely have to give these a try next time. I'll add this to the list of my favorite lunch spots.
