I rented a 10' X 30' unit to hold all minut home's furnishings while I transitioned between 2 homes.
While the gentleman who did my paperwork for Guardian was pleasant enough, and the rate was competitive, I experienced an unrecoverable loss of a red leather chair, to what appeared to be rodent(s) chewing at it. There were a few newly purchased packing boxes which also suffered the same type of damage.
When I brought this to the attention of Brad, the manager of the facility, he told me about the facility's insurance coverage and pointed me in their direction. (I guess that was easier for him than just telling me what he surely already knew.)
I filled out a multiple page claim form online and provided clear evidence with pictures.
About a week later I get a form letter back telling me that I'd be covered for a natural disaster, but if their storage unit had rodent infestation resulting in damage to my property, that was not covered.
Moral of the story would be to inspect the unit thoroughly; ask the unlikely questions; and get representations in writing.
