I pay for secure, climate controlled storage, and do not get that. The front gate has been stuck in the open position at night. The door to my section is so damaged - and has been for years - that it rarely locks. Except now when the lock jammed and I could not get to my unit that I pay over $180 per month for. This explains why there was not even a door handle on the door a few weeks back - someone must have used a crowbar to get into the building to access their stuff. If it wasn't so frustrating and expensive, it would make for a great sitcom episode or two! And then there's the temp - cold in winter and HOT in summer. Beware, storage contracts offer the consumer no protection or guarantees, so you have no recourse if you get into an agreement with a place as awful as Storage Pros.

10/0/15 - Update: My…read morebelow captioned review from 9+ months has to be revised in an area of great importance and I'll get to that in a minute. But first, I must reiterate that I continue to strongly disagree with their tier based late fee(s) policy. From a business standpoint, I imagine that Storage Pros feels that their high late fees will discourage people from paying late. However, when a person is in severe financial distress, high late fees make matters worse because by the end of the month, the person in that bad financial situation, is stressed to come up with even more money. And, if it rolls into the next month and an auction fee is placed upon the unit, there's hardly a way for a person-in-financial-trouble to catch up. I think that they would have far less collection problems if they had one, affordable late fee and I know customers would work harder to get that payment in by the end of the month Now, onto why I've increased my star rating to four and simply speaking, it's because of the positive personnel changes that this company saw fit to make. The person behind the desk at the Milford location, Jarrod, is outstanding! He will work with you to find a solution and even though said solution may have to fit within the company policy, he still tries to solve the problem in a manner that helps the customer in some way. Furthermore, if he can't help, he doesn't hesitate to contact the District Manager, Brian, to see if a more creative solution can be be formulated! In other words, Jarred knows the importance of top-notch customer service! He keeps the facility in good working order, cleanliness and safety are top priorities to him and he is adept at managing the office in a customer-friendly manner! What more could any present or future "storage unit tenant" ask for! My review is based on the following: 3/4 of my review is based upon the company itself and 1/4 of my review is based upon the facilities. The actual unit and buildings that house them have improved their security over the years and that's extremely important when you consider that many people store their valuable home furnishings and their precious life mementos. However, the company policies are so horrible and can have such devastating effects on the customer that I can barely give this company even 1 star! I've been a Storage Pros customer since 2001 and back then it was owned by someone else and named something else and the owner/manager was fair and took the customer's situation on a case by case basis. When Storage Pros took over, a steady decline began. Their financial policy is so poor that if, per chance, you experience a financial setback and are forced to be late with the monthly payment, you are in for a horrific surprise. They have a 3 - 4 tier late fee schedule and if you pay at the end of the month, you are looking at approximately $75.00 to a potential $125.00 in one month's late fees. So, like most people that are on a tight budget and like many people today that are in dire straits financially, you will find it impossible to catch up. Moreover, everyone from the previous office manager to the previous district manager flatly refused to work with the customer in financial distress and it wasn't until the company finally re-placed both people in those positions that things began to improve! I have talked to various other renters at this location and we agree that things are getting better but as for the outrageous late fees; well, I pity anyone that is going through tough times because this is one company that will show no mercy. Now, on the other hand, if you are able to self-advocate and are brave enough to contact their main headquarters in, I believe, Michigan, then you may be able to get some leeway. But be forewarned, if you do not posses a strong personality and are unable to make a case for them lowering the fees and getting paid rather then them losing money by auctioning off your property, you will be met with failure. If you are looking for rental space, I suggest that you thoroughly research as many local storage companies as you can. Please check to make certain that they have more than one security feature in place (and Storage Pros does have a very good multi-security system). And, please question them, in detail, about their late payment policies so that you can make an educated decision.

I had looked at several other storage facilities in the area when I was selling my house and moving into an apartment and needed to store some of my stuff. 10x Self Storage beat all of the rest that I looked at. The manager that I first met with was excellent and and explained the whole process to me who hadn't rented a unit previously. The facility is easily accessible and conveniently situated with lots of parking. It is climate controlled and the inside access is great as opposed to other facilities which only had access from the outdoors and were not climate controlled. The building is kept very clean which I appreciated.

Previously, I was at a competitor. I had a small 5x10 unit, outdoor access, not climate controlled, and part-time attendant. I went there because it was close, and they had a "first month free" offer. I never actually got that free month, and they raised my rates twice in a six month period by a large amount. At first, it was $85/month, then two months in it was raised to $133/mo; then I got a notice in November that it would be raised to $180/mo right before Christmas. I decided it was time to move out and find some place better. I got a unit at 10x Self Storage on Pullman Street. The unit was 10x10 (actually a little bigger), indoor, and climate controlled. At $175/mo, it was a tad cheaper than my previous unit with way more benefits. They offered 50% off for the first three months, and actually stuck by the offer (unlike the previous place that never gave me the promised free month). I used the 10x10 for a year, then downsized to a smaller 5x5 unit at $59/mo before moving out (I no longer needed extra storage). I really appreciate a company that doesn't bait-and-switch, and that doesn't get you into a unit only to jack your rates up. I found 10x to be an honest business, top quality, and a pleasure to do business with. I recommend them, and would also use their facilities again.
