The legend is true! The bridal gown for my vow renewal had been ruined at another tailoring establishment, which shall remain nameless. It was hemmed far too short, and the hem was uneven to boot! I went to see Faro (pronounced "Fah-row"), and she told me how much of what kind of material I should buy. She added a band of fabric to the bottom, and covered it with beaded trim, so that it wouldn't look like an addition, but part of the design. My dress is even better than it was before; the hem had originally been plain, and the new beaded trim at the bottom really adds some pizazz. And Faro's pricing was very reasonable. Faro is extremely knowledgeable about materials and styling, and is quite fashion savvy. She's an extremely skilled and competent seamstress, and so friendly! I was chatting with her like we'd been friends for years! If you need clothing tailored or repaired, Faro is the lady to see! read more

Faro is so great! I brought my wedding rehearsal dinner dress to her when I gave up on the alterations place I normally use to get my suit pants hemmed (they are just so very rude). My dress was silk, and basically a full size too big, but I loved it and really wanted to make it work. Faro took that dress and made it fit me like a glove, and when I picked it up and tried it on, the zipper puckered a teeny bit at the top and she fixed it right then and there in about 15 minutes. Some suits I didn't think could be altered because of their structure, but she tailored them right up with no trouble. I read the reviews for Faro and was cautiously optimistic given a previous negative alteration experience at another reputable establishment. I decided to take a few items over just to test how they would turn out and I have found her to absolutely live up to the previous 5 star reviews. I have since been bringing her items weekly (as my budget allows) and have been thrilled with the results. She is timely, and if an item isn't quite ready, she will call to let me know. After I put on the finished garment, if a bit of tweaking still is needed, she does it with smiles and friendly banter. Her craftsmanship is superb and a few dresses I thought couldn't be altered given the complicated structure were easy for her and the fit is absolutely effortless. I would highly recommend her for any item you may have. I have been deeply impressed by her skill and professionalism. I needed to have a serving jacket altered in the back, as I was a bit too big... and have the sleeves hemmed, as they were too long. The lady that was in the shop, quoted me a price of $25 for hemming the sleeves and a $45-minimum for taking in the back on the serving jacket ( it could be a bit more depending on how long it would take her)... are you kidding me?? $70 minimum?? What a rip-off. Obviously, no prices are posted on the store wall, so she can charge whatever she feels like.. Never again will I set foot in that place or recommend her to anyone. read more

Read all the previous reviews and thought I would give it a go. Was not disappointed when I took two of my "off the rack" suit pants in to have them tailored. Great work on the hemming, and she knew exactly how each pair should break. My only gripe is that she doesn't take credit of debit, which is something you need to keep in mind when picking up. Otherwise, I will be bringing all my future alterations to her. read more

I have used the amazing services of Faro since I moved to Marin in 1994. I just brought her my 16 year old cashmere coat to have her redo the belt on one side. She ended up practically remaking the coat so it is more stylish. She makes recommendations that you cannot refuse because she definitely is an expert at her craft. I ordered a dress online for a formal event, knowing I would have to have it altered once it arrived. When I read about Guaranteed Alterations on Yelp, I decided to try it. Faro did a fantastic job on my dress - making adjustments that finding a way to hook the train to the back of the dress so not only could I dance in the dress, but it looked even more beautiful that way. Just called to see how much shortening a pair of jeans might cost. The woman who answered the phone (I'm assuming it was the proprietor) snapped at me immediately. In a very rude tone, she broke into a lecture on how it's not worth her time to give me a quote and how "she'll give me a good deal, I shouldn't worry about the price." Wow - could have given me a simple and polite, "I'll have to take a look at the jeans before I can give you a good estimate." I had the most wonderful experience with Faro at Guaranteed Alterations. I came to her to have my wedding dress altered. Previously, I went to a different alteration establishment in san rafael that received great yelp reviews, this woman basically told me she could only sew up the key hole back of my dress and I would have to do my hair and makeup after I put the dress on. She also told me that no one would tell me any different because no one wants to deal with beading. As soon as I walked into Guaranteed Alterations, I got a great reception from Faro and she meticulously pinned the shoulder alterations, the length, and the bustle. She didn't even suggest sewing up the keyhole, she did it the right way! The dress fit perfectly and was ready to be picked up timely. I was overjoyed with the result. I called to get a quote for hemming a pair of pants - what could be more straight forward?- She refused to give me any price info, saying she needed to see the pants. When I appealed to reason, she rambled on and on about problems she has had with customers regarding prices until I relieved her angst by assuring her I would not be her customer. read more

I just got back from getting fitted by Fora, and have to get right to the business of raving about her. If you rarely get alterations(me) and have no idea where to go, GO TO FORA at her lovely little storefront on Lincoln. She is fantastic. I bought a dress in April for a wedding in NYC and only remembered on July 1st that I needed to have the entire dress fitted. I am wearing it to a very posh NYC wedding and it had to be perfect. It is this gorgeous black mermaid styled strapless formal with an invisible zipper and gold polka dots sprinkled all over it. I bought it at a consignment store where I was told that alterations would be NO BIG DEAL. Well, it turned out the alterations were a really big deal, and I couldn't get the recommended seamstress to even attempt the job(too little time for too much money) . Well, I found Faro on, of all places, YELP!. Not only did she reassure me, she recreated the dress and me at the same time. She did for me what another seamstress said was absolutely impossible: altered and fitted my formal dress in less than a week and for under $56!!! It is essential to ask and listen to Faro's great sense of fashion. All her insight and expertise in that area come with the alterations; free of charge.
