An unassuming gem in downtown Novato. These people are amazing! A very sweet couple. The work is impeccable, fast and entirely reasonable...sadly rare these days. Brought them two pair of jeans that had the crotch failing and when I picked them up I could not tell work had been done. I found a very lightly used The North Face jacket at a consignment shop. They don't make this particular jacket anymore-it's a classic. (I have the same jacket in gray and it is WELL worn. So I was very excited with this find.) But, the zipper was broken (which is probably why such a find was being consigned rather than worn plus I got a discount). I brought it to Jad S and the woman helped me right away. She quickly assessed and made her recommendations. I explained that this jacket would often be worn while boating so easy off and on, as well as water proof-ness were important. The zipper was replaced in a week and I am VERY happy. I didn't notice any odors or mean people, well, none that work at Jad S anyway. I highly recommend this little shop for their quality, timely work and reasonable prices! read more

The attention to detail that they pay to sewing your items is incredible. I have taken blazers, coats, pants and dresses to them for various alterations, and you cannot even tell the item was altered. I decided to give this place a try as I've been looking for a new alteration place and relied on the 4 star reviews! Much to my disappointment I will not be returning. The woman who barely speaks a lick of English first could not locate my dress then somehow found it only to have done a horrible and sloppy job in what was a simple shortening of a cotton blend dress. I should have known by the low price! The store is a hole in the wall on Grant Avenue in Novato. It smelled like a second hand store and very cluttered and old. The dressing room had no light and the door resembled an old barn. GROSS all around! read more

This is the Best Tailor ship I've ever been to. I'm a short adult therefore have most of my clothing altered. What sets Jads apart from other Tailor shops is the attention to small yet important details. For example when I get my pants hemmed the seamstress measures and calls my lower leg length and width providing streamlined hem that keeps the shape and tailored look of the garment. Jad knows his craft. Yes, it is a craft and everything he has done for me over the last ten years is perfect. You cannot tell the garments were ever altered and he left the spare fabric so I could get bigger over time and let out. He is also realistic about turnaround times. He will be honest and not tell you it will be done unless he is sure. I have total confidence in Jad and his work. Now that Brenda trashed a nice suit and five of my jackets, I will buy all new and go right here. Shop is a little cluttered, so I took a star for that. I had a fairly tough bridesmaids dress that I needed to alter to make the bust smaller. It was an expensive dress, with very delicate chiffon that had layers upon layers upon linings. Let's just say it was a very complicated task, and the woman here did a wonderful job! She made it fit perfectly and you couldn't even tell it had been altered at all. The price was somewhat pricey from what I'm normally used to but it may have just been because of how complicated the task was. It was worth it in my mind. The dress was beautiful (and most importantly fit!) for the wedding. read more

I used this tailor a year ago and had excellent service from a younger woman. (Modifications on a wedding dress.) Last week, I took a jacket in for repair of the lining and the work was terrible. The tailor was an older woman who seemed to have poor eye site. I will have to have it redone. read more

I usually bring jeans to be hemmed, but I once brought a beautiful expensive white knee length dress coat from Anne Taylor, and asked her to make it look like it was made for me. If I could I'd give these 2 sisters 15 stars. Every day tailoring: done well, affordable Special events: Prom Dress- was a bride's maid dress from my cousin's wedding, with short sleeves, they altered it into a halter top and redid some of the beading BY HAND... and If I remember correctly it was under $100. Wedding Dress- I decided to use my grandmother's dress (my mom also got married in it), very old, beautiful, and delicate silk and lace. They took off the sleeves and made it into a tank top and redid the bust to make it lay well, shortened it a few inches, and added a bustle. They also sewed hooks and eyes into my bra and a slip to hold the 2 together (sections of the dress are lace only and see-through). They did an absolutely amazing job, very affordable, friendly, on time. My cousin's wedding dress: she decided to reuse her sister's dress (from earlier "prom dress wedding"- beautiful alterations job... I know these ladies also did many other alterations for that wedding read more

I took in a strapless prom dress to have straps put on and to have the dress shortened. They did a great job! The cuts on the bottom of the dress were done very well. The straps looked as though they came with the dress. You couldn't tell that I had them added. The ladies are very patient with taking measurements. Although they should have more of a shoe selection in case one forgets to bring the shoes or hasn't bought them yet. Overall, great job! read more

DO NOT GO TO JAD's Tailor for anything - My daughters Prom dress was ruined and not in a "sorry" was mentioned. All she was asked to have done, was to bring in the side straps less than an inch, instead she changed the whole back of the dress, cutting fabric and ruined the side zipper. My daughter was in tears, prom is ten days away. After arguing with her she did refund me for the dress, with the rudest attitude, not even apologizing for ruining the dress, making me loss half a day of work and upsetting my daughter. If you care about quality work and professional service, find another shop, Jad's is not the place. I am telling everyone I encounter and posting my experience everywhere read more

THINK TWICE about taking a floor length dress to Jad's! Thank goodness I tried it on there when I picked it up! Jad (or her sister) was able to fix the part that was still dragging on the floor, but how do you fix the too-short sections?! YOU CAN'T! When I finally got it home, I was thinking, "well, I'll have to wear it anyway" but then I checked the hem a little closer... the inside layer of netting was even worse - all jagged and uneven! It was like someone gathered it all up in a fist-full and just hacked at the bottom with scissors. Since you can see the inside layer through the sheer outside layer, the effect of a flowing gown was really ruined. I fixed it as best I could. All this said, the stitching itself was well done - hence the two stars -- but I will never go back to Jad's again. read more
