I've come to Jaime and his team several times over the past year. Unabashedly, I usually come in with stacks of pants, shirts, and suits I need to have tailored--I tend to buy a lot of Italian brands online that need to be altered. Given the high price of these items (eg, $1000 pants--yeah, I know...), I need to go to someone with experience. I haven't been disappointed. He's also one of the few tailors who works with leather, and he's done a brilliant job with several pairs of leather pants and a jacket that needed alterations/repairs. Also a fake leather jacket, for which -- although I'm sure they would rather not have even touched fake leather! -- Jamie kindly consented to also alter the sleeves. i'm from out of town so he mailed the jackets to me in a timely way. I'm not happy with my experience and felt compelled to write a review. I came in here to get 2 pants altered and he said he was swamped with work and it would take him 3 weeks to have them ready. I took a leap of faith and decided to wait those 3 weeks. Fast forward to 3 weeks I get there and he tells me he hasn't worked on one of the pants and he went to the back and just cut them. Why did he have me wait 3 weeks?! He handed them to me CROOKED and I went back in and he re did it. I had specifically requested he did not hem them too short and he did just that. I told him "these cost me $400" and he didn't care. I'm 5'6 and now they're Steve Urkel and suited for someone shorter. I wanted more adjustments for the other pants and he said "it's just your body type I can't do anything else only alter length". My take away is he only cares if you have a wedding dress to alter ($$$$ more money) than bottoms. I don't recommend this place. read more

Jaime & his brother Oswaldo are the best! They are experts at what they do. I've been going to them for many years and all their alterations come out perfectly. I'm a small person so nearly all my purchases need altering in some form or the other. The few times I've had to return because it wasn't quite right, (my fault, not theirs), they fix it without charging. I feel so fortunate to have them in our neighborhood. Was very happy with their work and turnaround time. I took a wetsuit in to get some Velcro sewn back on. I took the same wetsuit back in because the other side came off. I initially thought the sewing had fail, but it held strong, the original adhesive holding the Velcro on gave. When I took it in, half hour before closing, they took it and did it right on the spot and didn't even want to charge me, but I insisted on paying so was charged $4. Would have paid more for the quick repair. A dive shop would have charged much more. I would defiantly recommend going here, and will return if I have any more need. read more

I went to Jaime's after some thorough research on Yelp regarding alterations in Marin County. The reviews for Jaime's were wonderful, and of most interest to me was the one that said what an excellent job they did on a pair of jeans. I brought Jaime a pair of jeans to have the waist tapered in. It sounds simple but the stitching on this jean is detailed and a big part of the style, similar to that of a "True Religion" jean. I was so delighted when I picked them up today and found that he made them fit perfectly. He had to make the alteration in a complicated area where several thick, double stitched seams came together and he made it look as though it had never been touched. I was very impressed that he not only maintained the character of the jean, but he did it skillfully. To top it off, he was kind enough to complete them by the time I needed them even though they are overwhelmingly busy with prom alterations. A family business run with pride. Jaime is nothing short of a miracle worker. Long story short, we were attending a wedding in San Rafael and just 15 minutes before the ceremony, my friend had a wardrobe malfunction with her dress zipper, which left her entire side exposed. I managed to close the dress with about 15 safety pins from the church office, but this was obviously a short-term fix that hopefully wasn't caught on too many of the ceremony photos! While this got us to the ceremony on time, it wasn't ideal. THANK YOU, Yelp, and an even bigger thank you to Jaime. As soon as our friends said I do, we searched for "tailor" and "San Rafael" and were delighted to find Jaime just .3 miles away. When we called, Jaime let us know he was already closed, but would wait around for us. We dodged cocktail hour before the reception, and just 5 minutes later, Jaime was working his magic - the zipper was fixed and you couldn't see a single hole from my safety pin quick fix. It could have been easy for Jaime to not pick up the phone when we called, or to simply stay closed since we called after hours, but he instead became our knight in shining armour. Not only did Jaime welcome us into his shop, he refused to let us pay (and we would have gladly paid extra for his services). He said, "someitmes, you just have to do good deeds for other people." A mere 15 minutes later, we made it back up the hill for some cocktails and small talk, and the entire wedding party was blown away by Jaime's expert and efficient tailoring. Jaime did a tremendous job altering a leather jacket for me a couple years ago - he took great care to think through the alteration, and seemed to value my new jacket as much as I did. It was a tricky alteration - turning a man's cut into a woman's, with unusual seams in the sleeves that made shortening tough.
