Highly recommend! My almost 13 years old is in that in between size between kids and adult clothing, and she needed a swimsuit altered to fit her. The owner was so kind and helped to make my daughter comfortable in the dressing room. It was a pretty technical alteration, and because we were going out of town, she was kind enough to finish it more quickly than usual. It fit perfectly. Super negative experience with this business and I will never return. I have to agree with other reviewers that spoke of the owner's rudeness and dishonesty. Long story: I have a large needlepoint piece that was made by my late mother that I wanted to get framed. The piece needed to be "stretched and blocked", a process needlepoint must go through to regain its shape prior to framing. Not many places offer this service today. I spoke with Mondi, the owner, over the phone and explained what I needed done. She assured me she knew exactly what I needed so I drove down to the shop. Once face to face I explained how precious the piece was to me and again went over what needed to be done. Again, she assured me she knew exactly what I needed and said that she had experience with this. It was then that she told me that she doesn't actually do the dry cleaning work in her shop, but would send the piece out to the people that do her dry cleaning. She assured me that they knew the process and they do excellent work. So I felt comfortable leaving the piece with her. I had no idea what this process costs, and when she asked what I would pay for such a service, I said that $100 seemed reasonable and to call me if it was going to cost more. We agreed that she would call me once she went over the instructions with her dry cleaners, and this was to happen by end of day. I never heard from her. I called her the following day in the afternoon. She said that everything was going according to plan and the piece would be ready the following week. The next morning I get a text from Mondi that the piece was ready for pickup. A week early! Not surprisingly the item was not "stretched and blocked" per my instructions, only ironed. Which I could have done myself, for free. She was charging $110. She said her cleaners had called her the day before to say they wouldn't be able to get the piece back in shape. I don't think they even tried. I asked why she did not call me with this important information, and her reply was simply that she was too busy with all her other customers to call! Seriously. I ended up paying $95 just to get my piece back and leave. Fortunately, they didn't damage it. I waited to write this review because negative reviews are unpleasant on many levels. Mondi presents herself nicely and comes off as friendly, honest and competent, but she is far from that. I wanted to give her my business, but in this case she took complete advantage of me and the situation. It sounds like others have had similar experiences. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. There are many dry cleaners in town, and most do the work in house! What a learning experience. read more

It's an Indian outfit so I was worried I wouldn't find someone that would be able to fix it but Mondi did a great job. She was accommodating, upfront, and quick. I'm not sure why yelp sent me a reminder of this horrible incident but they did. Mondi is misrepresenting, actually she is lieing about what took place that day. She damaged (tore and stained) a dress needed for a wedding party participant and then 'fixed' it with a piece of tape, didn't offer to clean the dress, and also redused any refund of the CASH she was pre-paid for the job. I'm sure she has done right by many here in Novato but she played me when she didn't own up to her mistake. read more

Long story short: I went through 3 months of runaround and lies for her to try to charge $150 for alterations on $150 suit she ruined. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! First, she lied about the dry cleaning. I asked her business hours, because I don't work near Novato and wouldn't be able to pick up clothes during the week. She said 'oh don't worry you can call after hours and come pick it up.' First lie. Called next week and she at first denied telling me that, then said her circumstances changed and that's why I couldn't come to the store. It ended up taking weeks for the dry cleaning. But that's not the worst of it. I come in nearly a month after dropping off the suit. She hasn't even started it yet. Long list of what I know now was her standard excuses. I was polite and said it's ok, I'm not in a big hurry. Big mistake. Another month passes, and she STILL hasn't even started. I would have left right then except I prepaid for dry cleaning and at this point I could tell I was dealing with a snake. I then said I needed it by the end of the month. Finally, nearly 3 MONTHS after I dropped it off, my Mom offers to pick it up. After I got a text from Mondi saying it was done. It was NOT DONE. She had to wait an hour. She then tried to charge for that, apparently, as the ticket said $105 when she got there but $150 when she came back. She refused to pay, thankfully, because my suit was ruined by her probably rushing to make up for waiting 2 months to get started. Finally went in to pick up the suit today. First, she can't even find it. Then, another customer comes in and she stops looking for my suit and starts helping her, completely ignoring me. I start going through her racks to see if I can find it, and then she remembers I exist and finds it. After all this, I was hoping at a minimum that she would do a good job. Wrong. Not just mediocre; she actually ruined it. The fit was wrong in multiple places. The vents were scrunched up and looked terrible. SHE SEEMS NICE, BUT SHE IS NOT. Not one apology for this without making it sound like it's not a big deal or somehow my fault. My only fault was not walking away sooner. Seriously might be the worst customer service I've ever received. read more

I brought a fifty year old Pendleton wool shirt to Mondi. It was given to my husband by his mom when he was a senior in high school. The shirt was worth saving but was in need of many repairs. I had some military uniforms I needed rank ensignia and service stripes added. On one of the shirts, the rank was really off center and I had to say something. Easy fix. I also had three blues jackets that needed rank and service stripes. She said she would have to surgically take apart the jacket to do it. 9 years and this is the first I've heard of this sewing project needing to be so complicated. I picked up my jackets and am going to take them elsewhere. Also she had quoted me a price when my shirts were finished and then asked to charge me more when it was time to pay. . I cannot recommend this business for alterations sadly. 1. The owner does not wear a mask during business hours. (This was during a statewide mandate, not optional) 2. When I asked her to put a mask on she was very rude. 3. I asked to have buttons replaced on a shirt and she missed three buttons (see photo) 4. The buttons that were replaced are crooked so the shirt does not close properly. 5. "Cash only" in the year 2021 is just not acceptable. This is the worst experience I ever had. She totally ruined my brand new dress pants that I would wear with suits to work. I brought in my dress pants to have the legs shorten. When I was at her store, she had me put it on so she could measure the length, and we did. I prepaid $16 for the pants and left. Later when I picked it up, I tried it on and it's shorter than what we agreed (see the photos). She looked at it and agreed with me. I asked her if she could please make it longer. Suddenly, she was very irritated and sat down on her chair heavily with her two arms crossed, with an angry face. Her mood changed instantly which I thought it was so strange. It was like a different person/character. I started to feel abit unsafe. Note: we were talking like normal earlier, she seemed very calm when I first got to the store. I was so shock how she changed completely. She then told me she needed me to hang around at her store while she undo one leg so I could try it on to make sure it was the right length. I said okay. I could tell she was still upset and did not want to fix the pants. She went on to serve one customer who just walked in. After I waited for a while, she started to undo one leg. Half way to it, she started to tell me, in order for her to fix this, I needed to pay her another $12-$14 on top of the $16 I already paid. She then raised her voice and told me it was not her fault, and it was my fault to ask her to make it that short. I told her I was not happy about this, you should have told me you would charge me extra before undo one leg. Also, how could the length be so off from the measurement you did when I first brought it in. She then started to turned on very loud, but calm/Zen music; then continued to lecture me. At the end, she put my pants in a bag and handed to me. I didn't want to argue with her, so I decided to leave. How could one ask her to cut dress pants that short. DO NOT GO HERE! I only chose this place since all other alteration places were closed on Monday and of course I waited till last minute to get my daughters skirt hemmed. I brought three pleated skirts in. My daughter tried them on for Mondi. She quoted me a price and said that she can have 1 skirt ready when I needed it but since they may take a while and she was backed up I would have to wait till next week for the other 2 skirts. I said that was fine. I dropped them off on Monday. She calls me saying my skirt is ready to be picked up. I said I can't come till Wednesday. When I pick it up she told me that she couldn't complete the other 2 skirts because the one skirt took her all day and it wasn't worth the price. She said she would only do the other 2 skirts if I agreed to a higher price- a price increase from $22 to $38 per skirt. That seemed pricey and definitely was pissed since she agreed to one price then changed it. I said no and walked out. I brought the skirts to another shop and hope to get a better outcome. I am very aware that the pleated is hard to hem but don't tell me one price then change the agreement. Also the hem was sone horribly. Never again! read more

To anyone that lives in Novato, stay clear of this place. We moved here a few weeks ago and I met her walking on Grant. The owner Mondi is very charming, talks the talk, and can sell you on anything, however she is not in her right mind. She is a scam artist pushing her spiritual garbage (zen zen my ass) and then harassing via texts over a sweater she lent me. I was extremely communicative with her about it as I had been out of town, had family visiting, had a kids birthday, and then got sick. OH and we just moved. Not only did she harass me, but when I went to drop it off she yelled at me in her store and berated me over a cheap sweater. Why would I try to steal her sweater? She acted like she lent me a fur coat. The sweater was a basic gray cardigan from Banana Republic. I mean seriously?? She kept making weird comments that I was trying to keep it and that she feels "fooled." Again what?? She then proceeded to charge me for dry cleaning it after she had told me it didn't need to be cleaned. All of her messages are clear on my phone. Not only is she phony but she is deceptive and completely unprofessional. Never have I had to write a review like this but she's out of line and has awful business practices. Interestingly I see there are some other negative reviews about her so here's one that is completely recent. have never been treated by any business owner in such a poor manner. Although I've been to several establishments in Novato, I have not been pleased with the work or the cost. I googled Alterations, and found Mondi's business (Novato Square Cleaners & Alterations) and am extremely delighted. Mondi, skillfully and smoothly shortened a tank dress at the top of the straps without leaving any bulge. She was also able to repair a one piece flower printed bathing suit that had been badly stretched out at the leg openings. She altered the crotch by removing the extra material and matching the curve of the leg openings with precise seamwork. The swimsuit fits perfectly and is very comfortable. Mondi was easy to work with and adept at her trade. I was thrilled and impressed with Mondi's expertise and excellent work! I'm grateful to have found her and highly recommend her. read more

This was partly my fault because I should have asked for the price of her services. Do not come here to get your face threaded. She charged me an arm and a leg. I have been getting my face threaded since I was 18. The most I have been charged was $28 in San Rafael. I get my eyebrows, my lips, and chin done. She charged me $52. Not only that, but during my services she attended to customers coming in. I wasn't expecting it because first it's not done in a professional setting and I figured it'd be about the same as in San Rafael. I will be driving to SR from now on. I brought by 2 tommy bahama camp shirt into this dry cleaners to be cleaned. I advised the owner of 3 spots one of my shirts. She marked the spots. When I got them back, she told me all the spots were removed. I looked at the top one and the spots were gone so I assumed that the other one was fine. When I got home and looked at the other one, the spots were still there. I went back the next day and she basically said it wasn't her fault, it was the dry cleaning service that she uses fault. Then she continued to come up with excuses why it wasn't her fault. Excuses started with, it was busy when you dropped it off to that's not my job to tell you if the spots get removed. Then she said, oh, we'll I should have charged you more because it has embroidery on the back. She also said that she can send it back but would charge me $5 per spot and that there was no guarantee. She definitely is not customer service oriented and I don't know why anyone would support her. read more

MONDI IS THE BEST!!! I moved to Novato from SF around 2 years ago, and Mondi has helped with everything my family has needed since. All of my suite jacket and pant alterations have come out perfect. She even altered my daughters prom dress with 2 days notice!! at an extremally reasonable price!! I had to force her to accept more money. She was able to expedite the order and have it ready the night before my interview. I would've otherwise been screwed, as where is a woman to find a new formal pants suit in this post-COVID day and for under $400?
