Today is 10/30/2016. On 9/29/16 I order 3 garage doors (for 2 houses) from Justin with this company. I paid him ~$2,500 (50%) for the order. I was told they would be installed within 2-3 weeks. This guy and his wife are scam artists. We hired them to build a fence thru nextdoor. He assured us that he could do it. Long story short, we are out $5k after it taking him 3 months not to even finish the work, let alone do it correctly. He stole tools out of our shed. He would commit to a work time and then ghost us. My husband had to take time off of work to go to Justin's house to force him to come work. Him and his wife actually got into fights on our property. Our garage door installation went fine. The problems arose when they forgot to bring the hinges and handle that we paid $85 for. They said they would have to order them(why didn't they do this in the first place). So I waited and waited. Tried contacting them again and they said they would come back out to install them. That never happened. I attempted to reach out to them multiple times and have never heard back. They were also supposed to finish some trim work that they left undone. I understand they're probably busy so I asked they just refund the $85 and call it done. Again no response. Not very good customer service. I would not recommend them. Justin came to give me an appraisal to have my garage tracks and motors replaced. He was very prompt at getting me the info I needed and had a proposal ready that afternoon. I wrote him a check for 50% of the work, roughly $3300.00. This is where everything went bad!! He said it would take about 3 weeks to get the job completed. I am now going on 8 weeks. He wouldn't answer my calls, text, or emails. Finally when he did answer about 3 weeks ago he gave me some excuse about he was dealing with family problems. I can understand things come up, but you should let your customers know this. He said he would be out the following Wednesday to start the job. Mind you this is now 6 weeks in. Just what I thought Wednesday comes around and into week 7, and he is a no show!! Won't answer my calls or text. This time he has an excuse of strep throats and he can't talk two days later of course he finally calls. Says he will start next week on Monday. Monday rolls around and he tells me on his way he had a blow out and wouldn't be able to make it until Tuesday. He comes yesterday for maybe 20min and drops off 3 rails, some pulleys, and some other track material. He tells me he will be back first thing in the morning, and of course he doesn't show up still not a call nor a text to give me an update!!! Now to top it all off he takes two of my garage door motors I currently have without my permission. I did some research on him and found a relative and called him to try and ask for help with the matter and ended up being his father. Explained the situation and told him I would be calling the police if his son didn't respond. Finally he called me with more excuses. I told him I wanted all of my parts delivered within the hour. He complied but said he had already thrown my other motors away, don't believe that for a minute. He bagged me to let him finish the job and that he wanted to make it right. Said he would be back today at 9:00am, and of course he is a no show, and his phone goes right to voicemail. Where to start! We contracted Justin and Guarantee door to make new custom made garage doors after looking at all the reviews on yelp. It was scary from the start. We paid him 50% cash up front it took weeks to get completed and many calls and text went unresponded to. We thought we had been taken but he finally came through after weeks of pestering. The doors are quality but the installation is not. We have had problems with one of the doors shortly after installation. Fast forward many months later many calls and text later we have been unable to get him out to correct his poor installation work. We are going to hire someone else to fix his work. My wife heard a loud sound in the garage, my son then soon after went to exit through the garage and said the door was moving very slow and it sounded strange. I went out and immediately noticed the left spring was broken in half. This is the first time I've experienced a spring breaking. I sent a message through Yelp late Sunday night and first thing in the morning I got a reply from Justin. They gave me a call a bit later. I explained what I knew and he gave me an estimate on the phone, then said he could get out this morning. He did. They guys were super at communicating, and explaining what they would do. This is the challenge with Justin. He came-out to my house on Monday September 25, 2016 to install two garage door openers. He was even paid-in-full before he finished because I had to leave due to personal commitments. When I returned, one garage door was not working and after I informed him, he stated that he had some bad parts and that he would fix the issue ASAP. Several days went-by and I reminded him on Oct 7 and had to remind him again on Oct 19. Finally, Justin replied on Oct 20 and stated he would come-by to fix the issue the next day or the day after. I never heard from him. I reached-out on Wednesday October 26 and he stated he would come-by that Friday - he never came-by. I reached-out to him again on Thursday Nov 17 and this time I got no response. I reached-out on Feb 13 and again no response. See attached text correspondence screen shots. After a few days, I found my garage door is not balance -- one side of the door cannot touch ground. I took a quick check and found one screw is not tighten at all. Work was completed yesterday on a torsion spring (spring above garage door) that broke. My garage door still worked but was extremely slow to open. I learned from Justin that this was because the motor was now forced to work twice as hard since one of the two springs had been broken. I almost always take at least 3 bids from any firm for work done at my house. Justin at Guarantee door was the 3rd and to be honest I almost didn't call a 3rd this time because one of the first two bids met most of my criteria. Well I can say now that I'm glad I requested a quote from Guarantee Door Service. - I requested a quote via yelp. I received a prompt reply and arranged for Justin to come out and look at the garage that same day. - I received a quote that was fair and arranged for the work to be done the next day. I also had another garage door that was similar age/wear to the one that broke. Even though I didn't need work done on the second door (at least not as urgent as the one I currently had that was broken), I went ahead and asked Justin to replace those springs as well. Justin Newhouse stole $6000 from us. We paid him a deposit for garage doors in October 2016, and he never delivered them. As other reviewers have said, he at first at least would respond to phone calls, texts, and emails. Delays. Excuses. Assurances the doors would be in next week, and the next week, and the next. Twice I went by the address on his invoice, and no one answered the door. My many messages were all polite and patient. Finally, I just told him I would be filing a police report, a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the Attorney General Consumer Protection Division, and would be taking him to small claims court. I plan to do all those things. If you notice all his positive reviews happened before October 2016, and all the negative ones have been written since then, so something must have happened. We used him for garage door repairs several times over a couple of years. He was always quick to come over, fixed everything, was nice to work with, charged a fair price, and chatted with our children while he worked. Maybe he got in over his head somehow?
