Heard a lot of good things about this place and have been wanting to try it the past few months! Entrance to the plaza where Guahan is located will make you feel like you missed it. But there's 2 ways to get to the plaza. Inside is well lit, spacious and really clean. Walked in around 5pm on a Thursday and it was really slow. They had one customer already inside. Our server, Peyton, is super nice and upon entry let us know we can sit anywhere. My bf and I knew what we wanted so we ordered right away. Peyton let us know that we came in during happy hour too. We've always been a fan of Guahan Grill as they previously had locations in Point Loma and Imperial Beach. Unfortunately, those two locations have since closed. This was our first visit to their Oceanside location, the only Guahan Grill to our knowledge. My wife and I came here for lunch prior to a boxing event down the street at Oceanside's brand new Frontwave Arena. My wife and I decided to share their 3 for $33.33 special which includes 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, and 2 pieces of banana donuts served with vanilla ice cream. We opted to get Chicken Kelaguin for the appetizer, and their BBQ Chicken Plate (which included red rice & green salad) and Chamorro Fried Rice with Spam and an egg cooked over easy for the 2 entrees. We were positively surprised upon getting our food. The serving portions were plentiful! The Chicken Kelaguin could've been an entree there was so much of it, the Chamorro Fried Rice was only halfway finished, and the BBQ Chicken and green salad were the only items completely finished. The red rice served with BBQ chicken wasn't even touched. We were so stuffed we forgot that we had banana donuts and ice cream still yet to be delivered. All the food with exception of the ice cream were taken home in to-go boxes. Honestly, this 3 for $33.33 special could've fed 3 hungry adults, at least the food items we ordered. The dining room was very clean and our server was both friendly and attentive. This restaurant is located in a strip mall so parking was not an issue. We'll definitely come here again if we're ever in the Oceanside area again. read more

The food of my (mom's) people! I haven't had Chamorro cuisine in a long time and this is one of the few times I've had it out since I've only really had it homemade. I've somewhat had this place in mind and I'm happy I finally got the chance to try them out. ITEM'S ORDERED: Locals Deluxe (w/ mac salad & pork spare ribs) Chamorro Style Fried Chicken (w/ mac salad) Empanada TASTE: All the comforting feels for me as I ate my way through all the different items. I already had certain flavors in mind of how specific items would taste and the dishes all pretty much fit that. I had to go with the pork spareribs instead of the chicken option since I always enjoyed them as a kid at all the Chamorro parties. I was already expecting flavors of soy sauce and vinegar in an almost too strong way and these ribs were just that, in the best way. I say "too strong" because I think if you have never had these, you might at first find it a little too flavored, but once you get a bite with some red rice, it's all good. Red rice is a staple with this cuisine and works well with any protein. The vibrant color is more dramatic than the flavor since it's more subtle with just notes of salt & garlic I like to think. The mac salad was simple & good. I like the nicely sized portion of it compared to what you get at the Hawaiian chains these days. Compared to the mac salad at Hawaiian places, this is much less sweet. Also, I was surprised to not see potato salad as an option since I'm more used to having that side dish more. I don't believe I've ever had Chamorro Style Fried Chicken but I'll say it's comparable to fried chicken, minus the breading part. So the crunch is not there, but also comes across less heavy. The Empanada I always view as a specialty item since since whenever I've had it before it was in limited amounts and it always ran out. It's basically a nicely flavored shredded chicken mixture inside a crispy shell. I'm use to a little more spice, which these weren't, but they still were so good. Great freshly fried texture. SERVICE: The one girl who both took the order and brought the food out was very kind and friendly. LOCATION & PARKING: They are located in little shopping plaza which includes an IHOP with lots of parking so you shouldn't have a problem with that. You'll get all the warm, island feels inside with the woody interior and Chamorro styling. I'm partial to this cuisine since I had it so much as a child. OK, so I am not Chamorro. Heck, I have never been to Guam. The closest I have been is Indonesia or Fiji, which is a bit like saying the closest I have been to visiting the US is being in Venezuela. So I can't judge the food here based on any personal familiarity or experience with the cuisine. There is some crossover with different Asian and Polynesian dishes--as Guahan Grill's menu reflects. So my impressions are based on an untrained palette. And to this guy, the food here is pretty good. Set in a casual, laid back space, both the clientele and the staff clearly were indulging in comfort food. And as a native Californian, I thought it the same way. The appetizers include lumpia (banana catsup optional), empanadas, spam sushi and poke nachos. Pacific Rim creole cooking all the way. But for my money, it's chicken kelaguen that stands out. Its tangy flavor and texture is not for everyone, but it is likely the most "Guamanian" dish here and by far the most original. The mains are dominated are unsurprisingly by chicken, pork and fish. The BBQ chicken from the grill is excellent, although I prefer the pork belly (sweet with just a touch of heat). For the truly ravenous, the "Guam Bomb" are extremely filling--fries topped with chicken, onions, cheese, bbq sauce and a spicy mayo. I've yet to try them (they frankly scare me a little!), but my son speaks highly from them. I have also yet to try their stir-fried udon noodles, but they are next on my list. To be candid, Chamorro cuisine is not food that I crave every day. In fact, most days. We got the Guahan Special and even after splitting between myself and my husband, we had enough leftovers to eat for dinner. The Empanadas were so good and stuffed with chicken to the max!!! It is a cute cafe that is decorated so you feel like you're in either Hawai'i or some other Mediterranean island. The service is quick and the food comes out hot and fast! I used to visit the Guahan Grill location on Rosecrans for my Chamorro food cravings all the time in college. The relaxed atmosphere, beers on tap and delicious food are why I made the trip to the new location in Oceanside after the Rosecrans location closed. My go-to are the plates! They keep me full, are full of flavor, and is my go to vendor! The service this last trip was amazing! I did not got the names of the servers but both were personable, helpful, and friendly. I didn't know much about Guam food before coming here. After eating at Guahan Grill I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food is and how clean and fun the restaurant atmosphere is! I would say the vibe is definitely fast, casual but the prices are around $15-20 a plate because of the gigantic portions. Most dishes have meat on them or are fried. So if you aren't a fan of that than be warned. Our server was amazing! He was the restaurant hype man and walked us through the menu with patience and grace. My Dad had a Guamanian girlfriend in my youth, she loved to cook, and feed us all. She introduced us to Chamorro foods, like red rice, and kelaguen, and the best of all...finidenne. I sought this place out years ago because I had a craving (let's be real...that's how all my foodie ventures happen!) and I loved it. Just moved back to California, and I had to come back and take my family. We ordered it all, empanadas, poke and chips, 3 orders of lumpia, 2 Guahan plates and the granddaddy huge plate, that I can't remember the name of...lots of meat in that one. Came here to eat and get away from the beach crowds and eateries in Carlsbad on a hot and humid Saturday. This casual dining establishment is located in a small strip mall. Our host/server, Samantha, greeted us and said we can pick any open table. The restaurant is clean and was pretty much empty as we had arrived for an early dinner. The menu is a VR code taped to the table. It is accessed with the use of your cell phone. Not all items shown on photos posted by Yelpers are not available. Maybe due to Covid, they've limited their selections of entrees at this time. Our orders consisted of: stir fry chicken with mix vegs, steam rice; pork belly with fried rice, pickled cucumbers and Mac salad; and chamorro styled fried ribs with fried rice and pickled cucumbers. We didn't wait too long and finally the dishes were served. The presentation is excellent. Ingredients were well blended. The fried rice had a bit of a tang to it which made it unique. Chamorros visiting from Las Vegas and we had to show some love to Guahan Grill on our short trip to SD! It's been a few years since I've been home and boy is it nice to have some comfort fiesta food that we don't have to cook! We ordered pickup for dinner. Like all Chamorro restaurants, it's not cheap but boy is it worth it!! So delicious! The whole family enjoyed dinner - especially the kids (which is always a plus) I did ask for extra plates since we'll be eating at our hotel, but they said they didn't have, which was a downfall, especially since we're not from the area. I was recommended this place from a coworker and had the chance to stop by on my way back to Orange County from San Diego. It was easy to find using Apple Maps directions. Guahan grill is situated in a small plaza that also has a Dingtea shop and iHop. Parking was ample and easy. When I arrived, the place was not packed so they let me choose where I sat. The server was really kind and attentive. I hadn't had Guamanian food in a while so I was excited to try their food. I chose the Guahan Special and for my choice of meat I had the boneless, skinless chicken thighs, chicken kelaguen, an empanada paired with red rice and I chose the macaroni salad. The chicken was very moist and flavorful. The chicken kelaguen was perfectly seasoned and the macaroni salad could have used a little bit of salt but otherwise was tasty. The empanada was nice and hot, crispy with a good flavorful filling. Everything came together with the finadene sauce. The only downside is the price of everything.
