His name is Ron, and he's the guy behind Daily Driven Per4mance. We first encountered Ron through Yelp--we were looking for local auto mechanics to look over our 20-year-old car which was having a power steering problem. Ron gave us an estimate and timeframe over Yelp for looking at our car that was within our budget and timeframe. He took a look at the car and diagnosed a problem that would cost $1500 to fix--but he didn't charge us for the inspection itself. Instead, we promised him that we would bring the car we were planning to buy to replace our old car for him to look over. And that we did--we bought a used car as a replacement, a car we were very happy with, and a car which needed an oil change. We brought it to Ron for an oil change and a general inspection. He got both jobs done within a few hours, and he charged us a fair price for the service. (And he says we got ourselves a nice used car.) We did get us a nice car--and a nice mechanic to boot. While other mechanics said the lights shine direction were designed to not be changed, Gene did it! I ALWAYS get a text at some point after servicing or repairs that asks how things are going. I also have an '03 Silverado 2500 HD crew cab. Somehow, the electrical got screwed up when a battery died. No visible gauges, no power to windows, locks, or air. I could drive it carefully but had to hold the door open while driving because the blower was putting hot air inside on a warm day. I went to 3 mechanics, and not one could figure it out and wanted loads of $$$ to check things I knew were not the problem. It was horrible! Finally, I decided to just drop it off at GTM in Moundhouse and let them keep it for a couple days, as they were slammed at the moment. Gene spent several hours and figured it out. Whew! Truck runs great and it hasn't happened again. Gene takes care of our Hybrids (2), as well as my brother in law's trucks and their daughter's cars. His wife, Theresa, and he are really nice, down-to-earth people. I recommend them over any other place in Carson City.

I thought I'd get a jump on some other maintenance, while it was in. I was told the other maintenance wasn't needed for at least another 10,000 miles (...not just taking my money and doing unneeded work? That should be the industry standard, but seems to be systemic!). They then kept me updated on timelines and pricing, notifying me/verifying me on any changes (a part needed to be ordered: they called, let me know, and told me when it should be in/how long the work would take once in). Finally, with the new part needed, they still did all the other work same day, and had the car set up to fix when the part came in the next day (efficiency!). Holy cow! I think this is my new shop, for life!

Mario's Auto Repair…read more TLDR - Quality work, fair price, fast service, great people. Highly recommend. I found Mario's because the Ford Service Department told me it would take 6+ weeks to make a diagnostic appointment and they'd need my vehicle for 5 days to do a diagnostic. Just a diagnostic. And then it's another 6-8 weeks to schedule the actual work, and who knows how long I'd be without a vehicle for that. No shade to those fine people. They're doing the best they can with the constraints of the system they're working in. I've been driving Fords for years and always had great experiences with the service departments. But it's reached a point where you have to wait months (diagnostics + repair) to get a simple thing done. So I took a risk and I tried something new. Enter Mario's. I called them yesterday and they said to swing by the next morning. I had a diagnostic with an estimate in less than an hour. They went ahead and did the repair and removed and replaced the serpentine belt tensioner, idler pulley, and both belts by lunch time. I know there are a lot of quality, hard working, reliable and honest mechanics in the community but you never know what you're gonna get sometimes when you try a new shop. Capitol Ford can get you settled by Thanksgiving. Mario's gets the job done before happy hour. Easy choice.
