Cold-smoked salmon; Theater platter: roast pork, plaice, meatball, herring, chicken salad
    David K.

Located inside Tivoli Gardens, Grøften is a Danish restaurant with a classic, casual atmosphere. The service here was absolutely outstanding, and our friendly server Giovanni made sure we had a great time! We started with the Groftens cold-smoked salmon, and an entire fillet was brought to us, carved tableside, and plated with dill, ryebread crisps, and creamed horseradish. The slices of salmon had a deliciously oily, creamy texture, and they went nicely with the light, airy horseradish cream. Next, we got the Groftens Theater Platter, a sampler plate that came with a number of different Danish foods. There was pickled herring with capers, red onion, and dill; a fried fillet of plaice (a white fish) topped with creamy remoulade sauce; a creamy chicken salad topped with crispy bacon; a slice of Kamsteg (Danish roast pork with crispy skin) topped with red cabbage; and Frikadelle, a Danish meatball. Every item on the plate was delicious, and I made my own little open-faced sandwiches using the dense slices of Danish rye bread served with the meal. It was hard to pick a single favorite component, but I especially liked the smokiness of the salmon, the creamy chicken salad with the crispy bacon, the crispy/salty skin of the roast pork, and the flavor of the meatball. Though somewhat pricey, this was a dining experience in Tivoli Gardens that was well worth it!

I made reservations to dine at Gemyse, a vegetarian restaurant located inside Tivoli but we ended up dining here because we ran super late and arrived to the prior establishment after their kitchen closed. Still, this was a good enough of a restaurant to stumble upon because they had a vegan option for me to eat (and my non-vegan husband also enjoyed his meal and giant beer)! As for their vegan options, they only had the vegan lasagna, which I ordered. Honestly, I am not in the best place to give objective advice because I was famished and devoured everything in minutes, but in my husband's words, they were "the healthiest lasagna [he's] tasted". The salad wasn't in its freshest state with no dressing and was topped with sun dried tomatoes and olives instead, but the lasagna itself was pretty good.

We spent the day inside Tivoli Gardens and saw this place and decided to eat outdoors to take advantage of the beautiful grounds. The atmosphere was amazing with great weather to match. There were 8 of us and were able to be seated without much hassle. All places were crowded and 8 were hard to seat, but they were very accommodating. We tried the Danish sampler, fish and the pasta. All were very good. Service was excellent with our waitress very good. She took time to explain all the dishes as most of the selections were new to us. I would recommend it highly.

Of course when in Tivoli Gardens any length of time, you get hungry. Being here for the first time, it was a decision where to dine. What to do? Yelp to help plus a line at the front door did it. We had charcuterie and a few beers. The food was excellent and the view was superb. The only drawback was the price was not commensurate what we ordered, a minor glitch that was finally straightened out. When in a foreign country expect the unexpected. But all in all a nice experience.

This place was a lot of fun! The vibe inside is great, very festive and decorated. I appreciated they brought a big jug of water to start. I ordered the salmon and a glass of rosé and it was amazing. Much better than expected. I also had the rice pudding as a dessert - the best part of the meal! Definitely recommend if you're visiting Tivoli

Everything started out so well with the extremely friendly and helpful host who gave us a few recommendations and seated us with a smile. Atmosphere is cute casual in Tivoli and was pretty poppin. We wanted to try some authentic danish food so we ordered the combo 2fried fish and poached fish and the platter for one which came with things like meatball, brie cheese, fried fish, pork roast and some fish as a sauce maybe? The fish in the little dish was super salty overall the entire plate was fairly salty. The meatballs were good but my favorite was the cheese, fried fish, potatoes i think, smoked salmon and pork roast. Pork roast reminded me of the roasted pig you get chinese style with the crunchy and salty skin delicious. We did not know the fish would be the same as our entree so it sounded like the platter included some of the entree options which makes sense since its like an appetizer. Fried fish was perfectly cooked and breaded. Comes with a piece of bread underneath and tarter sauce. Also had some shrimp which tasted like the cocktail shrimps out of a freezer though or overcooked not really sure, wasn't great. Biggest issue was our waiter seemed to be in a hurry or not sure if it was a language barrier but when we asked some questions he either ignored my friend or did not understand what he was saying even though our question clearly referred to what the menu said. We also got charged for water which came in a bottle not sure how that happened. I saw others had a pitcher or water which i will assume was free/tap. We even asked for no 'gas' or carbonated as well which was kind of annoying. My friends were so annoyed with his manners that they did not bother ordering another dish since he cut them off before they finished.

Everyone pays to eat here as you have to get i to Tivoli first. ,amy older generations will gladly do that whether by season pass or normal admission as they can get the food of their youth. Grøften serves the food of tradition. Our server. Martin was awesome in that he helped us pick some dishes and also explained the traditions behind them. Roast beef smørrebrød, mashed potatp/bacon/chive/beetrot, and an aquavit for safe measure. Ecerything was delicious. This was knowing i had dinner resys coming up. Maybe one of the few places in town that you can get solid examples of traditional Danish lunch and dinner. 4.3 stars

Came upon this place while wandering Tivoli. I am vegan so the Vegetarian menu is what caught my eye, and got me to go in to this restaurant. The menu says to ask for their vegan options...which makes it sound like there is more than one option. The waiter had to double check with the kitchen, but he made it clear that there was only one vegan option, the Baked Portobello Mushroom without cheese. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very cute, so I just went with it and ordered the only vegan dish available. I was expecting a large stuffed Portabello mushroom with a possible side salad, but what came out was a salad with 3 small mushrooms on top stuffed with quinoa. It was good, not amazing, but good. What was even more of a shocker was the price... 245kr which is $36 usd for a salad!! I just ate at a Michelin star restaurant the night before, and my dish wasn't even that ridiculously overpriced!

    Grøften, julefrokost

Was here for julefrokst with some colleges just before Christmas. This was my first visit to Gröften and also my very first julefrokost :-) The place was packed to the very limit. Me and another college arrived a bit after than the rest (12 people in all) and we couldn't almost reach our seats and whenever somebody at the table behind moved slightly you got an arm or an elbow in you. The julefrokost was nice, assortments of danish delishious smörrebröd and different toppings. I like the way that they served the julefrokost, on trays of different levels. The risalamand (spelling is prob wrong) was absolutely fantastic, was the highight of the evening. The place was decorated in a fantasiic way, not sure if the entire decoration was just for Christmas or if it was regular..

This was around 4:13 pm on a Saturday. We order three smorrebrod and we ate them in the Tivoli food hall. All were served on plates. The correct way to eat was with a fork and knife as we learned while watching an episode of Somebody Feed Phil. The chicken salad was undoubtedly our favorite. Lots of shredded chicken but overall smooth and tasty. We crumbled the bacon to add some texture and that was even better. The marinated salmon was ok but we liked the nice pop of flavor from the pomegranate seeds. I may try to add them at home to my smoked salmon. The egg and shrimp smorrebrod was tastier. We returned our empty plates back to the counter when we were finished. Not completely in love with open face sandwiches but may try again on a future return trip to Copenhagen.

You can find Hallernes on the fifth floor of the shopping mall. We got there later in the day and there was still an array of toast options - some vegetarian, others pescatarian and others with a heaping of meat on top. We enjoyed the tartar, lemon & dill shrimp and the traditional pork toast. Each was somehow better than the next. Everything was so fresh which really enhanced the contrast of flavors on our plates. We liked it so much we contemplated going back and ordering more! We sat in the dining area to eat, which had a high chair available. We also got a window seat which had a beautiful view of the square below and some stunning architecture. We sat there for awhile just enjoying the view. When we were flying out of the Copenhagen airport we noticed this same restaurant inside one of the terminals. It's awesome to see such high quality food be offered in such casual but busy spaces. We'll definitely be back!
