This spot is located in the meatpacking district of Copenhagen. Sure, there are lots of dirty drug users mulling about but there are also well-dressed young professionals grabbing Danish fare and Carlsberg drafts in large groups. Its the epicenter of this socialist society. There are no boundaries. The outdoor area is clutch in the summer and most of the patrons are loud/boisterous yet friendly. Not like that charade of an eatery in Søllerod. Here real Danes with hearts and souls staff this long time beloved restaurant. Vi sies e Grøften is a phrase I recall happily from childhood right up to 2017 when I last visited in a rainy, lonely Easter's Eve and promptly shattered by left arm slipping on Strøget cobblestones. Ugh. But this night of August 29 was a cozy triumph! Smask! Unable to get a full plate of my cherished frikadeller, I was able to get a children's dish of them! Hurrah! Then beef tenderloin! My blonde waitress, every centimeter a Dane, exuded the polite affection I've been swaddled in since a boy! I Regaled her with my tale of my mother's 2nd happiest night of her life right behind us outside Tivoli in Rådhuspladsen- Town Hall Square. It was the night WWII ENDED AND DENMARK WAS FREE! My mother's friend Uffe climbed up into the Tower and got the electric working and the entire square was flooded in light, love, weeping, singing and dancing! My darling waitress reflexively swept her one hand over her other arm's forearm and beamed: "that gave me goosebumps!" I assured her it was because she was a Dane and truly understood what it was to be free! Ah the food, the Danish aura, my GRØFTEN!!

My husband had some fish selections and said he enjoyed them a lot. It can feel a bit big and loud in some areas, but we were seated in a calm space in the back and it was nice. The bathrooms were clean and had changing facilities. Pros: good food choices, family/kid-friendly, very attentive, welcoming atmosphere, clean facilities Cons: some areas feel louder and busier, no outdoor service (understandable but still worth mentioning)
