The okra fritters were okay. The more you eat them, the better they taste (it comes with a sauce) but the batter wasn't seasoned so the fritters were a bit bland. This is a refurbished old fashioned store front set with booths and tables on one level. We were seated by a welcoming employee. The menu includes bison burgers, gator and shrimp and grits along with salads, other sandwiches, and pasta. My colleague had a Philly Cheesesteak with aux ju and clam chowder. I had shrimp and grits. My wife and I were on a little weekend getaway and were staying at a quaint little Airbnb a few doors down from Grub Brothers. The menu looked great so we went in and hung out at the bar for a few minutes and ordered some burgers to go. While waiting on the burgers to come out, a few regulars engaged us in some lovely conversation and made the time fly by. The atmosphere was very cheerful and the patrons very personable. I ordered the Smokin' Bison Burger and my wife got the Southern Belle burger. These burgers are large and were cooked to order. The cook temp was spot on and the flavors were all there. My burger came with a brown gravy that was delish! Their fries are seasoned and quite tasty as are the onion rings. Not too much breading and the onions are the star. We stopped by for a quick bite while checking out historic downtown 'Little Washington' with not much time to spare. The service may have been imperfectly executed at times, but prompt and very kind. For vegetarians, they have black bean burgers, which I did not spot on the menu but were mentioned by our server. We ultimately chose the fried pickles with comeback sauce and a three salad sampler of deviled eggs, pimiento cheese, and pasta salad with homemade crackers. They even whipped up a 'Shirley Temple' mocktail for our teen and made her one to go in an insulated cup when we had to depart. A fun location with character and good eats. Would love to give this place a higher rating but it's so hit or miss each time we go. We used to go for the peel and eat shrimp special every week when we first moved here but lately the shrimp have come out over-cooked and still soaking in water where you have to lean the tray up against something so your shrimp aren't water logged. Guessing they don't have a timer back there, this should be a quick and easy win for any restaurant within reasonable distance of water. The wings at times are great others not so good, I'm not sure if there is a night where the A team is working and we should be avoiding the other nights? This place was open on Sunday and we were hungry!! Husband had the "Bison burger" which comes with pepper Jack snd Gouda cheese, and he got a side of cinnamon apples. I ordered the smothered shrimp. It comes with tomatoes and okra, rice and black beans, with pico de gallo. It was loaded with about a dozen sautéed shrimp. It was awesome!!!!!! Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The old bay shrimp were great and I liked it came with melted butter not just cocktail sauce. I won't be guilty of eating here again. Last night, 12/16/22, my company and I both got the bbq. Without a doubt the absolute worse bbq we've ever experienced. It was old, it was extremely rancid, it had been heated in a pan to the point the edges had turned crispy, it had so much liquid introduced in an attempted to cover up the pan scold and dryness that the moisture rendering onto my plate saturated my fries. It's mashed the bbqcwith my fork and the moisture just ran out. This isn't normal of any bbq. And on top of that, there was so much sweet red sauce used it hid the smell and taste, at first, of the rancid bbq! I ate some and it wasn't long I had to go to the rest room to puke it up. After settling my bill on exit I puked on the sidewalk twice. What a long miserable evening. Rancid meat makes me sick...gas builds up in my chest, my stomach rolls and I belch and belch. Grub bros has a no refund policy. To make matters worse, the place is infested with German cockroaches. Photo taken above the dining entrance... This is twice I've had bad, rancid food from there. I gave the benefit of doubt. It's clear they take a huge chance with the quality and handling of food, I'm sure in the name of profits. Nice place in the downtown area of Washington. One side of the restaurant is a long bar the other has tables. I choose the bar side and had a cocktail. The beer selection is good and there were a couple local drafts that I hadn't tried so I went for those, very tasty. The menu is extensive and has a little something for everyone, this is not a "just a bar food" restaurant, there are healthy choices as well. I went for the local favorite: "possum in the trash." Super delicious nachos pilled high and covered with pico, queso, jalapeños and meat. I choose pork for the topping. I was not impressed, at all. The strawberry margarita was all purée, no alcohol. I ordered the Rum Runner shrimp. There was no glaze on the shrimp and the rice was bland. I got macaroni and collards for the sides. The macaroni was okay, but the collards were terrible-- they came straight out of a can, no seasoning. I had to order a side of honey chipotle sauce to spruce up the shrimp. I will not be returning to this location.
