I moved recently too Williamston. I work lots of hours and eat out a lot. I started going here because they are open more than most places. When I started going it was a few times a week night or breakfast. As the first couple of weeks I went more. Food average but ok service was excellent. As time went on I started getting cold food consistently. A few times recently I saw roaches on the salad bar and then the buffet. I quit getting both just ordered fresh cooked. Today I had enough. I never complained about anything before. Today I ordered breakfast. Everything on the plate was ice cold. I told my server who does a great job that my food was cold and it had been a big problem lately and if it continues I won't be returning. She apologized and took the food back returning promptly with more cold food. I expressed my concern that the potatoes were not even warm. I accepted the food ate what was warm and left the rest. I know this place has been there a long time and maybe people are more accepting of bad food but I won't be going back. I will miss all the great servers but not the poor quality food. On a side note I was close to the kitchen and could hear the conversation. The owner/ manager did not even come talk to me. I was spending 150 plus a week there and always tipped well. Within for the breakfast buffet. Was told by the cashier after standing for a few minutes that I could sit anywhere. I told her I wanted the buffet and she said " The lady has to take your drink order first ". I sat at the table several more minute without seeing a server until the cashier asked if I had my drink order taken. Of course I told her no, so she asked me what w wanted. Shortly my coffee was brought to the table. I got my buffet, scrambled eggs with cheddar, corned beef hash and some sausage. The food was okay. Nothing special, but I had been there before and I wasn't surprised. The bad thing regarding the whole thing is that all the staff I so or interacted with never smiled. They were blunt with no attempt to ask how I was doing. The only one who even checked on me was the "lady" that brought my coffee and her interaction was simple. "Coffee?" And then that was it. I don't know what's going on there, but simply because of the staff's attitude today it was not a pleasant experience. read more

This place is the best! Every time I come to visit my family (Duggins) I am here!! The food is always great!! Never a dish that I do not like! Every time I'm there I have a conversation with either the cashier or waitress and I mention my family they seem to know someone from my family! The ladies there are wonderful! The place can use a little fixing up but the place fits right into the food decor ! Monday went back the service was not the same, the waitress energy was not good! We had breakfast. The eggs were fine, but the potatoes were very bland. Unfortunately, they continuously play a so-called "news" channel that has repeatedly admitted under oath in court that it lies. The owner refuses to change the channel or turn it off. Since I do not wish to be subjected to hysterical propaganda with my morning coffee, I unfortunately have to downgrade from 3 stars to 1. Went for Saturday lunch, which as I understand is the lighter of the Saturday meal times (busier for breakfast and dinner). I was immediately seated. I ordered the open-faced roast beef sandwich. While the menu offers a side of chips or fries, the server offered the option of mashed potatoes with gravy, which I gladly selected. The sandwich was much larger than I was expected, with the roast beef piled on three slices of toasted bread. Very good flavor. The staff is very cordial and pleasant. read more

Loved everything we tried! Best chicken salad sandwich I've ever had and the homemade potato chips with homemade ranch were absolutely delicious tried the banana fritter for dessert and it was fantastic, imagine a banana dipped in funnel cake batter and smothered in powdered sugar! Looking for good meal after attending the rodeo, saw this place steak and seafood on the outside of building decided to stop. I ordered up a surf and turf ribeye with shrimp and the wife ordered the seafood platter. Our food came out but unfortunately the seafood platter and my shrimp for the surf and turf were cold. We had to send them back and put some heat to him I think they sat before they brought them out as they finish the rest of our food. My steak had good taste the seafood wasn't bad once it was warmed up service was just so-so our waitress seem to be preoccupied with other things. I guess that's it for our visit to the shamrock restaurant . Would we stop again possibly. read more

My family and I have come to Shamrock for years and it's become our tradition whenever we come down to Williamston. I usually eat breakfast and the few times I haven't, I have their club sandwich which is good. The staff is always super friendly and courteous. Now I can honestly say that how good the food is can fluctuate from one visit to the next based on the feedback from my family. I honestly think that some cooks are better than others and that's what's causing the varying quality. In addition to this, I recommend sitting in the front section of the restaurant because the temperature tends to be more comfortable there and it's also much brighter. read more

We were in town visiting family and they took us to this spot. My family raves about the fried chicken but I didn't order it because I saw Shepherds Pie on the special board. I love Shepherds Pie so I rolled the dice. I was wrong! It was nothing like a traditional shepherds pie. It consisted of elbow macaroni, beef, and microwaved cheese on top. I only could eat less than a quarter of the dish. I guess the upside is my family ordered the fried pork chop and chicken and pastry dish and they liked their food. Service was friendly, but our table was really dirty when we were seated and had to ask for a cloth to clean our table. read more

Always amazing food and service. Good home cooking. Tip those ladies good! I moved to Williamston just a few years ago and my family has frequented this establishment many times over the years and because of this we have had the chance to sample a lot of their menu. Haven't found one thing on it to be displeasing. Staff has always been kind and patient with my young children. The food here was really good. I had the fried mushrooms, claim chowder, and salad bar. Immediatly I noticed how fresh the salad bar looked. My daughter enjoyed her grilled cheese. We were stuffed. What makes this place really shine is the incredible customer service. The waitresses are so attentive to needs. My daughter dropped her sippy cup and one came right over to pick it up. While traveling from out of state, my husband and I was searching for a Waffle House when a friendly local directed us to the Shamrock Restaurant for breakfast. The gentleman raves about how rich and delicious the food was! Boy- this place did not disappoint! Not only was the food rich and delicious but fresh and hot! The best part of this place is the staff. They are very kind and you can tell they are sincere. I got the buffet for Sunday lunch. There were many options plus a salad bar. Everything was good but it wasn't great. Mostly bland, plain comfort food. Lacking spices. Food temperature was warm but not hot. I noticed two bugs in the restaurant in two different places. This place is down home, small town, country cooking. And good for what it is. When we were staying in Williamston for work back in 2006, we ate here once a week. Not a fancy gourmet place by any means, but you'll get plenty of good food for a decent price. I never had a bad meal here and have probably eaten at Shamrock a dozen times. Barbecue Chicken isn't chicken in a watery tomato sauce. That is what I got when I ordered the BBQ Chicken special on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010. The sauce was like the watery sweet tomato sauce that comes in a can of cheap pork-n-beans. It had nothing added to it and they hadn't even baked it on or let it thicken on the chicken. I told the cachier to tell the cook that I "hated" the chicken and I wished she had wiped the BBQ Chicken off the board before I had ordered it... which by the way she had wiped off the board, before I came up to pay. If this is how they always fix BBQ Chicken, I pity anyone that orders it. --- The salad bar was okay. The fried okra were crisp. The slaw was good. I liked the sweet tea. But, I got ripped off on the BBQ Chicken and left most of it on the plate. I tried it three times, and finally told myself, "No matter what they say, this ISN'T BBQ Chicken!" read more

Nice place. Nice salad bar. Mediocre buffet, not a lot of items and it was shut down prior to us completing our meal, we paid for a buffet but we're not able to eat until finished. Our waitress was extremely nice and tentative, there seemed to be a lot of chatter and gossiping amongst the other waitresses. I will give it another try, maybe it was an off day. read more

Heard good things about this restaurant and decided to give it a try. Never again! The restaurant reeked of pine sol and other cleaning products. We waited 45 minutes for our order, only to be told "there's a shift change." I'm not sure why the place smelled of cheap cleaning products because it is filthy. My husband and I stopped here on our way through town. First impression is very important. We were escorted to our table. The hostess literally threw the menus on the table without even saying a word to us. The waitress was somewhat friendly but appeared "rushed". It took awhile to get our food. The food was actually really good. No complaints there. After we ate, we walked up to the register to pay. An older lady waited on us. She was friendly. The hostess was beside her and she was complaining of a baby in there that was crying. She even said "the next time that baby cries, I'm going to slap him". Needless to say, that shocked me....she kept on and on about that's why she will never have children. This to me, no matter how good the food is, makes my choice to never go back! read more

A good country cooking spot in Williamston. If you're in town for an event at the Ag Center or on your way to the Outer Banks its a good, low cost stop for some standard country fare. There is a salad bar, while limited, has everything one would expect from a salad bar. They have ribs on Thursday nights (which I understand are amazing and sell out if you don't order in advance).
