Service was great, Kim was our server. We stopped for lunch on Saturday. Buffet only. Great salad bar, offerings were plenty. Main buffet had assorted chicken and fish, country beef and all the sides. I tried one of the baked chicken dishes, chicken a bit dry, green beans were good, hush puppies were excellent. The bbq chicken was also dry but the country style beef strips was best. Desserts were blueberry cobbler, needed whip cream and peach cobbler both were good. Very friendly and fun southern atmosphere. Local staple. Fun experience.

    Main dining room.

Nothing out standing, have ate here before nothing but good things, this time average. Fried chicken was too dry, pulled pork was mediocre!

We drove past twice before parking at the Hardware store next door and walking over. The exterior is...weathered to be sure. But that's not gonna stop us! The order window opened quickly and a gentleman efficiently took our order. Cash only. We got two hot dogs, an order of onion rings, a cheeseburger and a tea (that was the only drink available on the day I visited). We hung out until our order was ready then took it and sat on the tailgate of my vehicle to eat. The grease from the chili had soaked through multiple layers of the wrapping. Always a good sign! I had to look at the hot dog for a couple seconds because the chili looked unusual. It was mostly (very) saucy with some bits of ground beef. I was skeptical but on first bite...it was delicious! Certainly not what I'd call chili if I'm being honest. It was like BBQ sauce and ketchup mixed together, heated up, with ground beef conservatively tossed in. But again, it was great. The onion rings were good. Hot when we got them with good crispy outside. The burger was really good too. Lived up to the hype. I'd definitely recommend folks make a stop at Spencer's if you're in the area. Ambiance isn't overly impressive but focus on the food and you'll have a great time.

They were happy to mail some letters we had and offered to drive us to the store down the road when we asked where to buy some fruit. When we said no but thanks, they drove down to the store and bought us fruit and wouldn't take any money for it. The little boy Drake bought the fruit with his own money. It doesn't look like much and I didn't expect very much but boy oh boy, I am now a regular after one visit. Lol I had a specialty burger that had the whole kitchen on it. Cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato... That was just for starters. It also had onion( I chose grilled), chili(drippy but great), ham, mayo, ketchup... I'm sure there's more I can't remember. Had it with a side of sweet potato fries with an optional cinnamon sugar, YUM. I also had a cup of beans with sausage and cornbread and onion fritters. Kim, the owner, even gave me the pigtail. This is no run of the mill greasy spoon place. It has hometown feeling all over it.

My sub was definitely on the sparse side. The 6ish inch sandwich arrived at the table warm on a small metal tray. The serving of salami was skimpy; I seriously doubt that it had much more than an ounce of salami and about the same size serving of mozzarella. Despite the modest amount of protein, it really was OK. I've had better versions of this sandwich, but I've had worse too. The baked ziti showed up piping hot in an enormous baking dish that dwarfed the metal tray of my sandwich. It was easily a large enough serving for two or possibly even three. I got to try a bite and it was also OK. There was a lot of pasta with a barely adequate serving of meat sauce and there was a lot more tomato sauce than meat in the sauce. The sauce was definitely on the sweet side; I've had baked ziti many times and do not recall ever eating sauce this sweet before. Our server was not overly attentive but did eventually refill our drinks. The restaurant is clean and had a bit of a 1990s feel. We both noticed that there was pay telephone in the lobby that appeared to work. It definitely reinforced the 1990s vibe. The restaurant charges a 4% fee to use a credit card. There really aren't too many dining options easily accessible off of highway 64 east of Rocky Mount until you reach the OBX. Momma's Pizza is a reasonable choice as long you have modest expectations.
