Now that spring is here, it's festival season! It seems like every week there is an outdoor festival that you don't want to miss. The great thing about these festivals, there are often food trucks there! After walking around a festival for a bit my friend and I were hungry and in the mood for something small to share. Fortunately the GrrChe food truck was there to satisfy our hunger. Because we were sharing something, our options were limited to what we both like. We decided on a simple grilled cheese on sourdough bread with cheddar cheese. While this sandwich was incredibly basic, it was also very delicious. And a great sign of other delicious offerings this truck has. The bread was crispy and toasted to perfection with the perfect amount of ooey-gooey cheese between the slices. I can't wait to go back and try another grilled cheese. If you're out and about and spot the GrrChe truck, I would highly recommend stopping and trying a grilled cheese, you won't be disappointed. read more

Healthy: NO Delicious: YES I enjoyed the lobster mac & cheese cone which had the perfect gooeyness and was not too greasy. I do wish it had more lobster. This is a great choice every now and then when you see them in the area or at a festival. I would not drive out of the way to get this though. read more

While SX and I were at the Gathering, we saw this truck, but didn't get to try any of its offerings since we were stuffed from the other trucks. The menu looked intriguing and seemed pretty popular with the Gathering crowd due to the long lines. I was excited to see the GrrChe truck right by my workplace. For a bit less than $7 (which I think is quite a lot for a cheese sandwich), I got the Caribbean Grilled Cheese with came with a pickle and a choice of side (apple or a bag of Utz plain chips). The Caribbean Grill consisted of Italian bread, mango salsa, honey mustard, and swiss cheese. The combination itself was pretty good. I was a bit sad when I opened my sandwich to find that the flat top grilled crust had already gotten all soggy from a 2 block walk and the sandwich was pretty misshapened. The bread wasn't true Italian bread; it's the white bread loaf topped with sesame seeds you find at the grocery store. I wished they used a higher quality bread and/or thicker sliced bread. The mango salsa was the major key component to this sandwich. The pickle was a nice touch, had nice flavor, but lacked that snap and crunch I look forward to biting in a pickle. I think they do take credit cards because on their window had an intuit sticker stating that they can take various major credit cards. read more

My first Baltimore food truck experience was a decent one, and the fact that it was a dreary day after a 3 day weekend mandated something comforting like grilled cheese, so it gets a star for simply filling this desire :) As a cheap pescatarian, I was not going to go for the $17 lobster mac and cheese, $15 (I think) lobster roll or $12 crab cake for a lunch between class and work, so I was left with the plain ol' cheese, tomato and bread. I did decide to make it a combo for $7.50 with the crab soup (+$0.50 for the tomato, and 48 cents for tax). The cheddar and tomato grilled cheese on multi-grain was tasty, and I was expecting the slight sogginess, even though it went from the truck to my mouth in about 5 minutes. Taking a piping hot sandwich and putting it in paper/foil will steam it a little more. The cheddar and multi-grain tasted like nothing special, but the tomato was sliced perfectly so it didn't melt into a sopping mess. The crab soup was mediocre at best, but was fine to dip the soup into; it just didn't have too much crab and tasted pretty bland, a little salt would have made a big difference. The Big Cheese truck in DC, while I have not personally tasted any of its products, prides itself on artisan cheese, so I was expecting the same from this truck. For the price I paid, I don't think that I will be going out of my way for a repeat trip any time soon. read more

This is a food truck that specializes in variations of grilled cheese. They have ones with seafood, bacon, etc. and they come with a Utz bag of chips Got the BCT(bacon cheddar tomato). For 9 bucks I was hoping it would be amazing and out of this world but it was nothing special. Seemed like something I could get anywhere else and for cheaper too. I tried GrrChe during a food truck rally held at UMB. The first 400 people who attended received five dollar vouches, so the lines were long for all the food trucks (which is totally understandable). That being said, the line at GrrChe was insanely long. I felt like I committed though and was in the mood for grilled cheese, so I waited. And waited. And waited. I don't quite understand what took so long for grilled cheese, but eventually I got my grilled cheese and tomato basil soup. While it was nothing spectacular, my meal was pretty tasty. You can't really go wrong with grilled cheese and tomato basil soup! Without the voucher though, the total was almost ten dollars .. not worth it. Also, my co-worker ordered a plain grilled cheese with two types of cheeses, but they gave her a mac and cheese grilled cheese. Overall, not terribly impressed. read more

I really enjoyed my grilled onion. This was sweet, salty and savory. Everything was perfectly grilled. I had sourdough bread, grilled red onion, bacon and cheese. Definitely worth the $8.50. Finished it two hours ago and I'm still telling people about it. read more

I was looking for something safe for the baby to eat at the gathering last night. What's safer and more traditional than a grilled cheese?! I ordered him the new cheese burger grill with american cheese and no toppings (lettuce, tomato, etc.). I was expecting a grilled cheese with ground beef throughout. What I got was a cheese burger between two slice of sourdough with a bit of butter on the outside and tossed on the grill for 2 seconds. The burger had been cooked separately. If I had known I was ordering a cheese burger on bread, I would have picked something else. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but not worth the $8. My son ate about 1/3 of it and my husband and I tried a few bites. Nothing bad, but nothing special that I couldn't make at home. read more

Went to the Food Truck Gathering at the BMI last Friday and after browsing around all the trucks, GrrChe beat out the competition. Got the jalapeno popper: halved jalapenos, cream cheese, and pepper jack. Since we're veggie, held the bacon and they took a dollar off the price. A sandwich, chips, and a pickle for 6 bucks? (08/11/2011) Love the food on wheels movement (new to Baltimore). State Center finally has it's own Food Vendors Only parking space, and if you reserve it, they will come. GrrChe's inaugural visit was much hyped around the office. Also, it happened to be the Groupon of the week ($4 for $8). Got the Lobster Grill (lobster, brie, cheddar on a split top roll). Was disappointed at the size (would've been really disappointed if I had actually paid the full $14), but the sandwich did have significant lobster chunks, nice amount of melted brie (could taste the slight tang and bitterness) and was nicely, lightly dressed. Others got some very nice looking sandwiches, and they were very pleased. Bacon on the BCT was heavy duty; marbled rye was thick; tomato was nice and ripe. The parmesan crusting on the Croque Monsieur was a special touch, as were the fresh sliced peaches. I think maybe the idea of a grilled cheese truck is better than the execution. A wrapped hot sandwich gets steamed pretty quickly and you rapidly lose the nice crisp texture against oozy cheese that we all look forward to. Still, we're looking forward to the next visits and already planning our choices. read more

Not awful, not great. The idea of this truck sounds amazing. The execution was a little disappointing. I got the BCT and a cup of soup. The soup was Tomato Garlic. It smelled fine, it's color was odd. The taste was okay. It wasn't Campbell's, it wasn't Panera, but it did seem fresh, just on the thin side and could have used more tomato flavor. The BCT is a Bacon, Cheddar, & Tomato grilled cheese. All components were fine and fresh, but it was sort of lacking in cheese content. Some of the other reviews referenced too much cheese, but that wasn't my experience. Too little cheese! I expect a grilled cheese to be bound together, but this sandwich fell apart if I wasn't paying attention. The pickle was great though, and my apple was forgotten. Bottom line, I was disappointed on my first go round, but they have so many choices, I'll definitely try them out again and hope for a better experience on round 2 (and I'll skip the soup). So. We weren't hungry but we had cash and eyes and stomachs and we were in the mood for grilled hot cheese in our mouths! Mmmm...glad I was too. We got the jalapeño popper sandwich that had cream cheese, jalapeños, bacon and was served on sourdough bread. Wasn't too into the cream cheese option but we tried it and it was way good. Very surprised at that. Also had the BBQ pulled pork with Mac n cheese with sharp cheddar (I think) and that was yummy!!! I mean I was actually put off by the Mac n cheese part but I had already ordered it and I was like whatever, too late. But, yeah glad I kept it. Very happy with my selection. And together, those two sandwiches were really good together. They complemented each other well. I need to go again but so far so good. They have a lobster sandwich, that I just have to try, and a jumbo lump crab meat grilled cheese sandwich that looks just grand but these cost a bit more....so I'll do so another time. Today, my co-worker and I decided to venture out to the food trucks for lunch. Someone in our office was describing what we thought sounded like a delectable concoction. Crab on cone! Yes! Unfortunately, we got the wrong truck. The products were overpriced and the food was absolutely disgusting. If I could rate this truck a zero, I would give it a negative billion. I felt like my taste buds were raped (for a lack of better expression). EWWWWW!!!! I got the caribbean crab cone. It was an awful bland mixture of crab and mangos. There was no seasoning at all!!!! I'm still pissed because it cost so much. My co-worker got the lobster cone and she said it was awful too. She said it tasted like plain-boiled mac and cheese, unseasoned lobster with a sprinkle of cheese on it. On to the next, we plan of going to the right truck very soon. They gave us the name of the correct vendor: Gypsy Queen. I'll be writing a review of this vendor soon. I hope that I'm not as dissatisfied with them. In essence, don't Go!!!! We ordered the Cheese Burger Grill ($7.50): An Angus Burger on Texas Toast with the works, served with a bag of potato chips. My colleague really liked it; he gave it an 8.5 out of 10. The burger was definitely tasty, but I would have expected it to be $1or $2 cheaper. But maybe that is just my old school attitude that a cheeseburger from a food truck should not cost almost $8. Let's do a bit of price comparison: At Ruby Tuesdays their Lunch Classic Cheeseburger is $7.99 and is served with French fries. Their Dinner Classic Cheeseburger is $9.99 and is served with your choice of two sides. At Ruby Tuesday's you will get more food, but I have to say you will miss out on the amazing taste provided by Grr Che's Cheese Burger Grill. Having tasted both, I must say Ruby Tuesday's burger is not on Grr Che's level. read more

Was so excited to try this grilled cheese that I've heard so much about. There were about 25 people deep in the line and the orders were about a 20 min wait just to get your food. While I was waiting in line to order I heard the cook who I believe was the owner, who was obviously super stressed out, cursing out the cashier woman. Very disturbing and disappointing. I was shocked how unprofessional he was! Besides the unprofessionalism of the staff I finally got my food and it was very mediocre. I ordered the BCT sandwich. There were other co-workers that said that their orders were average too. Hate writing bad reviews because I know how hard the food service industry works but this was bad. read more

Unfortunately, the wait was just not worth it for this truck. They were downtown at Pratt for the Ravens festival along with multiple food trucks. Friends of mine went to other trucks with longer lines and were ready long before I was even close to getting called. It must have been at least 30 minutes... maybe even longer. I got the mac & cheese grilled cheese and it was okay, but nothing amazing. It also doesn't come with anything and for that price, I could go to one of the surrounding restaurants and get something more substantial. The worst part about my experience was that they were understaffed and the person taking orders had to help prep sandwiches. I literally saw her handling money - with gloves on - and then switch to buttering bread. Just the most unsanitary thing I had to witness and won't be going back. read more

I got the jalapeno popper grilled cheese, The bread was cheap, white bread., the cheese was not even melted on the inside, full of cold cream cheese and nasty cheap pickled jalapenos. I just had the new crab cake sandwich and wasn't disappointed. It's $10, comes with an apple or bag of chips, and a pickle. Let's get the pickle out of the way first. While the wax paper was soggy, the pickle wasn't. It was crisp and flavorful. The crab cake was unadulterated crab meat of good quality and fine texture between two pieces of Texas toast, with a slice of tomato. The outside of the cake was lightly browned. There must have been some binder but it was pretty unobtrusive. The salt and spice content was similarly low. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience to eat, and a very good value. We ordered the Cheeseburger Mac ($9). This is our second time reviewing Grr Che. Their burgers never disappoint. However, this selection was just plain silly. It was an Angus Burger with Kraft Mac & Cheese style macaroni and cheese on top and a bag of chips. The mac & cheese was not good, but the burger was scrumptious. Once again, it was too pricey. This burger should have been no more than $6 or $7. They need to totally eliminate the mac &cheese. The wait time was a few minutes - not bad at all. I recently attended Artscape on Sunday, July 17,2011 and decided to try out one of their grilled cheese sandwiches. I ordered a monterey jack cheese with bacon on white bread. I was so excited to try because this was the first time I've seen a food truck serving one of my favorites. Well, as soon as I received my sandwich, I was ready to dig in. Finally, here goes , I thought the sandwich was very thin; I'm thinking, wow, they put 1 slice of cheese. I just knew in my mind I would get thick cheese oozing out of it's toasted buttery bread. The best part was the buttery outside. I was hoping to see at least 2-3 strips of whole bacon, instead it seemed like broken bits....cheese...where is the cheese? As I said earlier, I thought I would get a nice ooze; instead the cheese stuck to the bread. My excitement turned to disappointment, especially knowing I paid over $5.00 for the sandwich. I will stick to my own grilled cheese sandwiches for now. Overall, I think Grrche has the potential to land a great grilled cheese if they thicken the cheese slices enough to melt and maybe I will try them again. read more
