Crabby fries $12
Alexis P.

Yummy crab food and really nice staff! The guy running the front was really good with names and thanked me multiple times. The menu is limited (as food truck menus tend to be) but I got the crabby fries ($12) and loaded crab quesadilla ($12). Both had a generous portion of crab and were quite tasty! I'd definitely come back for more. The wait was a little longer than I'd like but they were also pretty popular at the food truck event.

I recently ordered a southwestern Philly cheese steak from here. It was one of the best cheesesteaks I've had! Highly recommend them!

I've only tried the chicken and waffles, but they never disappoint. The sweet potato waffle with…read morethe cinnamon is absolutely amazing, and the chicken is always crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. I also tried the bread pudding. I love bread pudding, but this one just wasn't my favorite. It wasn't bad it just didn't quite hit the mark for me. The café itself is small, cozy, and welcoming. They have a small bar area, indoor seating, and a customer restroom that's tucked away in the back. When I stopped in, there were several people dining in, and it had a relaxed, homey atmosphere. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Down Home Cafe, especially if you're looking for a comforting brunch or a laid-back Sunday meal. I'll definitely be back for those chicken and waffles! Oh! Open parking!

I decided to try Down Home Comfort Cafe yesterday for lunch for the first time. I had previously…read moreheard about it via social media, looked them up online and decided to place an order. 3 fried wings w/ mambo sauce, cabbage and a $9 mac and cheese, total 25.00 plus tax and I added a tip. Based on the menu descriptions, I expected a very good meal. It was lunch time (1:30-2pm) so I expected a crowd when I arrived, but there was only two other ladies there that had just walked in a few minutes before me. The restaurant is tight quarters if you decide to dine in. The lady behind the counter was polite and my order was ready to go. I arrived at home about 10 minutes later to enjoy my meal. The chicken was cooked well, but a little salty and they were not warm and there was no mambo sauce. The cabbage was decent, but the mac was gummy and gelatinous and cold. I heated it up and added a little shredded cheese which made it a little better flavor wise, but the gummy texture was off putting and I threw it away which was hurtful as mac & cheese is one of my favorite sides. Maybe it was a bad day, maybe your experience will be better. I just wanted to provide an honest review. SBB

A relatively short drive from our house yielded the most eclectic, fantastic place I've ever seen…read more I found this place on Yelp, but did not read any reviews on it, so wasn't sure what to expect. The parking lot was full. The decor out front was mismatched bistro tables and chairs, so I liked it already. One step in the door and I was astounded. Old cabinets, scales, canning jars on one wall, photos and old pressure cookers on another, and no two tables or chairs the same. Coffee and cold drinks are serve yourself. Pick your own cup from an assortment of mismatched cups. Even the menu had little gems hidden in the descriptions. I ordered my usual, my standard for judging a restaurant, chipped beef over potatoes, and my husband ordered a 'meat lovers' eggs Benedict. It was a bit of a wait for the food as there were only 2 people working, but I wasn't bored because there were so many things around the place to look at. One bite of my food and I knew it was a winner. Thick, rich sauce with more meat than I've ever seen in a chipped beef gravy, and onions in the potatoes. Steven's Benny had sausage instead of an English muffin, and meat gravy instead of Bearnaise. He loved his food as well. Becky's is only open weekdays. She said it was too busy on weekends, and she does just fine being open weekdays. I can believe it. When we left, the parking lot was still full. This won't be our Saturday stop, but now Steven's off on Wednesdays, we can make this one a new regular stop.

Good food, great service, and a reasonably priced happy hour are a just a few things The Local has…read moregoing on. I popped in to The Local with one of my friends for a much needed happy hour and we were both in consensus we had to come back to try some other menu items and specials. $7 for the house Sangria and a mule of the day, was a great start to the evening and quite tasty. We both dined on the burger and fries and enjoyed the dish. I would've like a bit of seasoning on the burger patties and maybe a cheddar or American cheese, but that's my personal preference. I asked for the black truffle aioli on the side and that was definitely the way to go to really be able to taste the black truffle. And might I say the aioli was delicious. Our waitress was great and very attentive. The Local offers different specials on various nights and even does live music on Friday nights. This is a great place on the Avenue to enjoy dishes made with ingredients from local businesses and enjoy a delicious meal.

Hostess and waitress were very kind. Drinks and food came out fairly quick. The waitress made sure to check in on us and I didn't feel like she was overbearing. Honey bee 10/10: mild sweet drink. I've gotten this specific drink many times!! It's definitely my go-to Pork belly appetizer 11/10: the crispy onions on top give such a satisfying crunch. The pork belly itself was juicy. Meatloaf 10/10: does it look like a meatloaf? Not really. But it was so tasty and warm. Uneek Royale 11/10: this burger is messy. The sunny side egg was a perfect addition although again, the yolk bursting makes everything messy. I think that's to be expected. The bacon jam added some sweetness to the experience. The amount of bacon is more than enough. Overall, I would recommend this place and come back. I'm sure any dish from this place would get 10/10 from me.
