Purple Tomato - House Salad + Grilled Chicken

This is a take away salad joint. Plain and simple. So as it pertains to the category of "take…read moreaway salad joints", this place is absolutely a 5 star Yelp option. Salad as a main meal is not quite as main stream here in Hong Kong as it is in the US, so I feel like this was a hidden salad gem in a sea of a non-salad consuming society. Per my request having picked up a menu when we walked by last week, my husband brought me home a Cobb Salad, romaine lettuce based with the addition of black olives for about $100 HKD. Now I know the $100 HKD seems steep, I realize that. But I seek out fresh green vegetables at every single meal I consume and for $100HKD, I got exactly what I wanted...in the form of a great salad no less. This salad was huge (based on Hong Kong standards). Such a great portion and really a phenomenal cobb salad. The grilled chicken was seasoned really well, you get many regular sized slices of avacado and everything was super fresh. My husband said you see the person making your salad right there when you order it. Fresh, crisp, cold, well seasoned and tasty...all solid check marks for a great salad. I absolutely know I will have my husband bring home another salad for my dinner on his way home from work sometime again soon.

Take away (only) shop provides big, fresh and healthy salads…read more Although you can't "make your own" salad from scratch (which is a bit of a nuisance), they allow you to make "2 substitutes" after picking 1 of their 8 salad choices as a base. The women who run it are also nice and accommodating, so will try to help. I started with the Cobb salad but asked to hold the bacon and blue cheese, replacing carrots and another half hard boiled egg. It came to 82hkd, which is a lot for a salad, but the salad boxes have some serious weight to them after they are done packing in all of the fresh ingredients and they don't skimp on the protein (chicken, steak, etc) at all. I'm ok with the big size, but can imagine many would prefer a smaller option size, as it's a lot to finish, and rules this place out when looking for just an accompanying side to something else like a sandwich. After months of not having the "mixed greens" option, now it seems that their "mixed greens" is just a combination of kale and romaine, not the mesclun mix most would expect. Overall, I like this place and it's a good option for a healthy lunch, but I just wish they could handle people ordering a make-their-own salad, instead of trying to figure out which salad is closest to what they want and then trying to figure out the substitutes.

Bingo Juice Bar is conveniently located on a corner, on the first floor of the Far East Finance…read moreCentre in Admiralty, and it's one of the busiest spots at lunch (and breakfast!) time in this area. The reason: they sell good and cheap sandwiches, salads, juices and combos. The concept is extremely simple and that's why it works - it's a tiny take away shop (no seating), with food displayed on a shelf. Juices are ordered at the counter. Their food is very simple, no frills. Since they have their menu on a large poster outside, you can decide on your order before coming in. From 8 to 11 am they sell their 'Bingo Breakfast': sandwich plus a hot drink/fresh juice/egg white and cereal for around 16 HKD (half sandwich) or 23 HKD (full sandwich). You can get a lunch set (sandwich plus soup or fresh juice) for 20-25 HKD. As for their sandwiches, made with white bread, there's a little bit of everything, including some veggie options and the most expensive is around 31 HKD. Salads are okay but they aren't my favorite thing there (most of them have a pasta or potato base). Besides their sets, fruit boxes, juices and milkshakes are their best sale! On the menu, they have all possible combinations of fruit, vegetables and yakult, but once I asked for yet a different combination of fruits and they happily did it. They are all priced at around 16 HKD. And they've got an open tidy 'kitchen' where you can see them working. Their juices don't have any added flavors or sugar; they are simply fruit and taste like heaven!

Le Petit Saigon has a real simple menu which specializes in Banh Mi. There are three options: pork,…read morechicken or vegetarian. I have been here twice and have both times ordered the pork which is traditional version of the sandwich. They also have some interesting drink choices which are all Vietnamese. You can order a Vietnamese beer to go with your sandwich, line soda, or a Vietnamese coffee. The banh mi here is very good. The french bread is on point. The pate has a nice creamy texture and is not gamy. They put scallions in there sandwich. I enjoyed it but this may not be for everyone. If I wrote this review after my first visit I would say that this is the best banh mi O have had in Hon Kong. However, the second time around the bread wasn't as fresh and didn't have the crunchy exterior that I hope for in a baguette. This is probably because I had the sandwich close to dinner time. I will definitely come back when I am craving a banh mi.

Their Pho Banh mi is off the chain!!!!! The sauce they use is amaze balls and if you like lime in your pho, thats basically what its like! They also had a pho poutine on special... which was to die for. Many of my die hard food friends from SF came here and loved this place too. Try the restaurant next door too for really good intricate vietnamese food!
