This is a take away salad joint. Plain and simple. So as it pertains to the category of "take…read moreaway salad joints", this place is absolutely a 5 star Yelp option. Salad as a main meal is not quite as main stream here in Hong Kong as it is in the US, so I feel like this was a hidden salad gem in a sea of a non-salad consuming society. Per my request having picked up a menu when we walked by last week, my husband brought me home a Cobb Salad, romaine lettuce based with the addition of black olives for about $100 HKD. Now I know the $100 HKD seems steep, I realize that. But I seek out fresh green vegetables at every single meal I consume and for $100HKD, I got exactly what I wanted...in the form of a great salad no less. This salad was huge (based on Hong Kong standards). Such a great portion and really a phenomenal cobb salad. The grilled chicken was seasoned really well, you get many regular sized slices of avacado and everything was super fresh. My husband said you see the person making your salad right there when you order it. Fresh, crisp, cold, well seasoned and tasty...all solid check marks for a great salad. I absolutely know I will have my husband bring home another salad for my dinner on his way home from work sometime again soon.

Take away (only) shop provides big, fresh and healthy salads…read more Although you can't "make your own" salad from scratch (which is a bit of a nuisance), they allow you to make "2 substitutes" after picking 1 of their 8 salad choices as a base. The women who run it are also nice and accommodating, so will try to help. I started with the Cobb salad but asked to hold the bacon and blue cheese, replacing carrots and another half hard boiled egg. It came to 82hkd, which is a lot for a salad, but the salad boxes have some serious weight to them after they are done packing in all of the fresh ingredients and they don't skimp on the protein (chicken, steak, etc) at all. I'm ok with the big size, but can imagine many would prefer a smaller option size, as it's a lot to finish, and rules this place out when looking for just an accompanying side to something else like a sandwich. After months of not having the "mixed greens" option, now it seems that their "mixed greens" is just a combination of kale and romaine, not the mesclun mix most would expect. Overall, I like this place and it's a good option for a healthy lunch, but I just wish they could handle people ordering a make-their-own salad, instead of trying to figure out which salad is closest to what they want and then trying to figure out the substitutes.

If you're on one of those western diets like paleo, raw, or vegan, you surprisingly have choices…read morehere in Central HK. Nood Food is one of them. I have yet to try the food, but one afternoon I had a sudden craving for a smoothie and Yelp led me here. After considering the various smoothie options (a plus in my book!) I ended up with the Berry Pump. Since it uses ingredients like almond milk and coconut, it's definitely more nutty than fruity but I enjoyed it nonetheless. What's nice is that they have stickers they put on every cup that has all ingredients listed along with nutritional information if you're counting calories. If you choose to sit towards the back (as opposed to the front bar area where you can people-watch the escalators) you might want try their complimentary "structured living water", which is apparently not just any water. I've honestly never heard of this concept and in my mind I read it as "strange voodoo water" but to each his own!

Personally, I call it a mild form of orthorexia. Despite my penchant for night market snacks and sushi and candied yams and all of that, there's nothing I love more than a raw cacao brownie or a giant plate of micro greens. Unfortunately, the Western organic food movement hasn't quite caught on in Taiwan at all. So I did a bunch of research and made a list of places I wanted to visit in HK, a place filled with health-conscious Western palates. Where the kale is abundant, the Quest Bars are numerous, and the cold-pressed green juice flows freely. nood food is a raw, organic cafe located right alongside the Pure Fitness gym in the SoHo district. There are both dine-in and takeaway food options, plus a full juice/smoothie bar and pre-packaged food items for sale (kale chips, raw chocolate bars, crackers, granola). You can also purchase juice cleansing sets from them as well. I didn't bother looking into this as I was only in town for the weekend. We dropped in for an early dinner on a Saturday evening. After much deliberation, I opted for the small salad box. For $62HKD, you get to pick 4 different salads from a pre-prepared selection in the display case. The brown box is deceptively minuscule - the guys there generously pack it to the brim! I had the kale, roasted pumpkin, cucumbers, and eggplant. Everything was so fresh! Seasoned to perfection, with a savory Mediterranean flair, and absolutely delicious. If I lived in Hong Kong, I would surely be a frequent customer.

Maybe it's because I came right before closing, but a few things happened: - I ordered a bowl that was supposed to be tuna, but received a salmon poki bowl after waiting 5-10 minutes. They offered to replace it. I waited another 5 minutes. -the tuna bowl was missing the additional seaweed salad. I had to ask for it again. I waited another 2-4 minutes. -the tuna bowl wasn't that fresh, which was disappointing given how close we are to the sea and seafood markets.

Anyways, back to pololi review: I used Google map to get here, so it's pretty easily and fairly accurate. Cute little restaurant that you can't miss :) Once you are inside, you will realized the a/c is not strong enough, which got me a little worried cause they are selling raw food. $90hkd for a bowl with two protein options, not including any sides. I was hoping their style could be more like California where you can pick any sides for free and at least have 10 sides for you to choose from. I like the flavor that they've created, especially avo-mayo. I think the Mayo actually helps breakdown the tenderness of the fish, so it's not as chewy as the other favor tunas. And sadly, they only have one type of flavor for salmon :( Overall this bowl got me full and didn't get me sick good flavor, clean, decent price. 4 stars

This has become a staple for my office and many of those who work around. It's a 5 minute walk from…read moremine and the wait is never more than 5 minutes when I go after 1:30 (Although I have seen up to 6-7 people waiting at 1pm). As an effort to eat healthier, I get this 2-3x a week nowadays. The choices are limited but enough. You either get a sandwich or a salad. I've never actually tried their sandwiches but the salads range from $68 (GREEK, CAESAR, no meat) to $78 CHICKEN or COBB (with bacon, egg, ham and avocado), $88 SALMON, $98 STEAK. While I originally balked at the prices ($80+ for a salad!), after making my own in mason jars that never came close to this, I've come to accept it's the price you pay to be healthy, and the salads are surprisingly filling. I get fuller from eating these salads than a noodle/rice meal from other Chinese restaurants! I've tried a few of them and I personally like the CHICKEN and SALMON the most. The STEAK is a bit dry so I would skip that. The beauty of this place is that each piece of lettuce is glazed with JUST the right amount of dressing. I nearly always get BALSAMIC VINEGARETTE since it's healthy and I tried Italian once, it didn't taste as good. I would prefer the BALSAMIC to be a tad stronger but it's really my personal preference- I love sour! They do have a bunch of other dressings to choose from, mainly your typical caesar, thousand island, etc. ALL their salads have a ton of romaine lettuce, sliced cucumber and tomatoes. I just tried the COBB salad and they gave me nearly half an avocado, half an egg, ample sliced chicken strips, a strip of bacon. I also like the SALMON a lot and they give you thick pieces of salmon, enough so that every bite of veggie is accompanied! SALMON is expensive too! I swear they nearly give a whole pack which costs $50 at the super market itself! The CHICKEN salad is good too, the chicken is freshly grilled and not that dry (to me it is a bit but I'm a "legs guy" ;)) I do wish it's sliced though. The STEAK on the other hand was quite tough and dry, definitely not worth the $98 and I'm a #1 steak/beef/cow/carne asada girl. So the beef is pretty terrible for me to say this. Just skip this. The Salmon/Chicken/Steak all come with carrots and a bunch of feta cheese as well. All salads come with a bowl of soup and their soups all taste great! I always get the creamy tomato, and I've tried their cream of mushroom. I'm pretty sure their soup are homemade and none of that watered down canned soup! While I'm not so happy about spending $80-90 for every lunch, but if it keeps the docs away, it's worth it! Although I really feel bad getting takeaway so often as well since it's takeaway only :( *** Tip: Get Salmon, Chicken, Cobb salad. Don't get Steak. I tell them no bag and no utensils in my effort to be more environmentally friendly :) Favourites: Filling meal! Perfectly tossed salads. Great soups and comes with it! Meh: A bit expensive but value for money. No argula or other more unique leafy greens Last words: Yummy salad! Take-out only. Cash and octopus only.

What I do like are the sandwich options which are pretty sizable and come with salad or soup. The side salad is just okay but I like the soup options, since it's hard to find Western style soups. The price isn't too bad either, especially for the neighborhood since it's just takeout. If you work nearby it's probably a good option for you to take back to your desk for a quick lunch.

Mon dieu! It means…read moreOh. My. Gizzle. Molten yolk / flowing custard croissant 流奶牛角包, shortened to 流奶. It was one of the greatest moments in my mouth during my recent Hong Kong trip. It apparently replaced the pineapple butter croissant, which was basically the classic HK pineapple butter bun, but instead of a bun it was a croissant. This beautiful creation is basically taking the yum cha dim sum "lao sa bao" (flowing salty egg yolk custard steamed bun) but putting regular sweet molten custard inside a perfectly flakey crispy delicate layered croissant. At $22 and from a visitor's standpoint, a really good value for the quality. It may seem like a modern gimmick, but when you taste it, you cannot believe how perfect the fusion became. There was a lot of thought put into this, down to the execution, and the results speak for themselves! Even their standard plain croissant kicked so much ass, and I liked it way better than nearby Le Salon de The Joel Robuchon, which I had a day later and found it to be severely lacking. Apparently Urban Bakery's version (this particular location) comes closest to the Paris experience, and easily outperforms most croissants in San Francisco Bay Area.
