We recently had Groutshapers out to bring our 20 plus year old tumbled travertine shower back to life. Jose and Victor removed old grout, cleaned the travertine (NOT PRESSURE BUT CHEMICAL) as we learned this was the way it should have been done all along. Grout was replaced and Jose did an excellent color match, all was resealed and shower door was re-siliconed. Jose also told us what to use for regular cleaning and gave us a bottle of spray cleaner to use and also where it may be purchased in the future. We were advised to let the shower set for about 4 days but we let it set for a week as we have two bathrooms so a little longer would not hurt. After receiving a free inspection, thorough report and estimate, Groutshapers arrived as promised for every scheduled morning of the restoration work. They were careful to protect our wood floors and carpets, and used products and tools that were surprisingly low odor but effective in completely transforming our tiled shower. The tiles and grout were cleaned, resealed and cured. The old caulking was removed and redone. You would think this shower was newly installed. On 1/23/24, I scheduled Groutshapers to do a partial remodel of my bathroom starting on Monday, 2/26/24. They never showed up! The story: I called Jose on 1/8/25. He called back on 1/9, and came by on 1/10. After several reminders (first red flag), he sent me the estimate on 1/19. It was not the most expensive or the cheapest, but I chose them because of their high ratings, competent looking estimate and tile expertise. On 1/23, when we agreed on the 2/26 date via text, he said he needed a 10% deposit the week before starting, which I agreed to as a normal procedure. Problem was that I didn't hear from him at all the week before (second red flag) regarding the deposit he said he needed. So, on Friday, 2/23, I texted him asking to confirm the 2/26 start. No response. On 2/24, I called and left a message and then texted again. No response. Finally, I emailed him on 2/25 and he responded saying his father-in-law had a stroke and could he start later that week. I expressed best wishes for a speedy recovery and agreed, asking when he could start and finish the job. He never responded. My plans and schedule all screwed up due to his complete lack of communication and failure to show as promised, I was forced to scramble to find someone else to do the job. read more
