The house blend is a bit more smoky than I would prefer but credit to them for roasting their own beans and sourcing ethically. In a city that has some decent coffee shops but most of them serving the work of other roasters I still think there are areas where Grounds for Thought could improve including more focus on the coffee and less on sandwiches and foodstuffs - perhaps some unique single origins - but overall they're doing a nice job. read more

Back in the early 90s before Starbucks ruled the world, Grounds for Thought came to my college town. They exhibited local artists, had used books for sale and really good muffins. This was huge for the town that hosted the National Tractor Pulling Championships. They were a breath of fresh air. read more

ive had Grounds For Thought coffee in the complementary breakfast bar while staying at the Best Western Falcon Plaza and it was so good i wanted to take some home! my friend and i stopped by here and there was a whole wall of different kinds of roasted coffee beans. you can either choose from bags of coffee beans or from larger containers i guess if you wanted a different amount. it smells delicious in there. they grind the coffee beans on request and have pastries if you like. they have a bunch of used books in the back and a couple of small tables in the front. everyone was really nice and i hope we didnt annoy the girl grinding our coffee too much since she had to grind like 6 bags for us :P read more

The finest (only?) coffee-shop-slash-used-book-store in idyllic Bowling Green. You may not always find exactly what you're looking for, but if you're the type that likes spending hours getting lost in a bookstore, you'll find little to complain about. Their vintage paperback selection by itself is pretty amazing. (On an aside note, I love how many Scientology books you see at used bookstores.) When I was there on Saturday, I got that old nostalgic college-town feeling that you only get when you overhear a pretentious conversation between two guys with enormous beards. read more

There is no better coffee shop in NW Ohio. There is a wide (wide!) variety of whole bean and ground coffee for purchase (roasted on site) and the freshly brewed coffee is outstanding. The well trained staff can make any coffee concoction you desire. There's also a used bookstore, the largest in the area, also including LP albums, DVDs, and VCR movies. Grounds also has top-name musical groups once a month or so. Stay away from corporate Panera's (and their awful coffee) and enjoy locally owned Grounds! read more

Even though I left Bowling Green years ago now, I still find myself comparing my new coffee shops to Grounds, and still haven't found anything to match it. And so I bring you my ten reasons why Grounds for Thought remains my absolute favorite coffee shop: 1. It's local. 2. They sell used books. 3. They do not use those awful espresso machines that grind, tamp and pull the shots all automatically at the touch of a button. They have to work for their espresso. 4. The staff was always friendly. 5. The staff was always knowledgeable. 6. You knew you would inevitabley, for better or for worse, run into someone you knew there. Even if you haven't been in town for five years. 7. Internet access (yay!) 8. Convenient location. 9. Decent hours (I'm so entirely tired of coffee shops that close their doors when it's not standard Monday thru Friday business hours.) 10. The most versatile coffee shop ever. I felt comfortable hanging out with friends there, but at the same time, I've also been to interviews, meetings with teachers, and small birthday celebrations there. Great place, delicious coffee. Such a cool atmosphere I've never experiences in any other store; it has new/used books, records, comic books, coffee, and baked goods. Many BGSU students meet here for classwork and projects, so it's a hot spot for schoolwork. The coffee is so so so good, but in the $3-4 range for a small cup. Their homemade chocolate chip cookies are very tasty and well worth the cost. They have some outdoor seating, although it is limited. Very cool, very chill place, you should definitely check it out! read more

I order the Carmel coffee both over ice and hot (I think my favorite is iced) . Wander to the back of the store where you'll find real live paper books on every topic imaginable. Best. Study. Cafe. EVER This place buzzes with humanity. It is a cross between a cafe, a public library, and a town square. There is something for everyone here. As for myself, I carry my laptop everywhere and I am always on the search for the perfect place to work remotely; programming and sipping on a cup of black coffee. Books, music, culture. A great place to hold meetings, have fun and live life. Had my first date with my wife here and it is almost a regular weekly stop for one or both of us. One of the best coffee houses I've ever been in. The entire place is a bookstore with every genre imaginable; from fantasy to cook books. There's even a small selection of cool classic vinyls and even some VHS tapes! The place is a perfect hangout for the atypical BG hipster. And, as a previous review stated, the staff is rather snooty, which is rather annoying. I live in BG and GFT has the best coffee beans and I understand they roast their own beans. My only complaint is how I have never been served a great cappuccino. The foam is always stiff and full of air bubbles, it's almost like separate from the rest of the coffee. And there is never a design on the foam, which would be an added bonus. When I go to the East or West coast and order a cappuccino, I am never disappointed, I never have to worry about getting a bad cap on either coast. Does no one in GFT know how to make a simple and great cappuccino??? read more

Grounds for thought is a great place overall. They have coffee, tea, sandwiches, hot chocolate (a dozen different kinds), a wide variety of desserts, and much more. The first part of the place is the restaurant/coffee shop, but most of the business contains shelves and shelves of books, records, and more. It is very cozy and welcoming, and a place I can spend hours in. When I go there I have to actively work hard to not buy a dozen books because this place is so great. This place is a real gem and one I will miss terribly once I graduate and leave BG. read more

Decent coffee for the area and local competition. However the interior is dated, dingy, and hasn't been updated in quite some time. Forget about studying or working for long periods of time here--old wooden chairs are horribly uncomfortable, wifi speed is unbearably slow (if working at all), and only a few of the tables have outlets.
