Although Grotto Pizza is a Delaware/Maryland chain, it typically caters to local customers. Their locations span pretty much from Rehoboth Beach to Concord Pike. It's been awhile since we've dined in one, so we figured we try it again. Their pizza is fairly well prepared. The crust is crispy and thin. However, the sauce seems to be a bit blend, like lacking some seasoning or spices. Toppings are good, and they do offer a variety of special pizzas. Staff was friendly and helpful. The dining experience seems lacking a bit, although it's no fault of the management nor the staff. It just seems like dining in a crowded diner, than a top notch pizza place. read more

We have eaten at Grotto's for years, but never again. just had the worst mozzarella sticks and Bianca pizza ever. The food was late, looked reheated and tasted like cardboard. Who manages that location should be ashamed. read more

Food and service were ok for my recent take out order. I ordered a cheesesteak and the kid's mac n' cheese with fries. The cheesesteak was good. The mac n' cheese seemed old and wasn't hot. It didn't have much flavor. The restaurant is conveniently located by the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, so pick up or dine is easy, plus they also have a large bar area with a full bar. read more

Take out order. Arrived home to find that it was incomplete (minor add-on, but still means nobody is doing the checks). Called and the reply was "Uh, sorry about that." Silence when I said "No fix?" Not the first time from this location, and why we often order from somewhere else. At least previous times there was an offer to fix the issue. read more

Stopped for pizza here while in town following an event hosted by friends. This chain pizza spot did the job for hungry hotel guests. Experience, food and service was as expected. Prices were very reasonable. Plenty of seating was available. Bar was also available on site. Menu had a bunch of options. Plenty of parking was available on site. Sorry folks - did not get to take any pizza photos. read more

I tried grotto pizza 1 yearish ago, traveled to Delaware for this, the pizza was so good. Cheese pull. Probably one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. The customer service is nice,. They have clean restrooms. There's a vitamin shop next to it. It's in a great area, I love the drinks, and the fries are amazing! One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Easy 5.0 read more

The food is okay, not the best but could be worse. Staff suck but once you get past that it's tolerable. Pizza is the best thing they serve.

Pizza has been going down hill. This Friday was the worst. I ordered two juniors; one with mushrooms and extra cheese; one with sweet peppers onion and extra cheese to pick up. Seewwwq The bill was over $25 and pizzas were the same. No mushrooms and the other had onion. They were really poorly made and crust tasted stale. Never Again!!! read more

How does this place stay in business? Food almost looked like frozen dinners. I guess if you never had good Italian food you won't know. Portions very small. read more

It seems like they can improve everything about the grottos in Middletown. Not very friendly service. And the pizza was a lot different than the ones down at the beach read more

Came in tonight after a shopping spree. Sat at a table in the bar. Ordered a Chicken cheesesteak with fries. I think our waitress forgot about our food. It took like 40 minutes to receive our cheesesteak. By the time she brought it out to us and left, I called her over and told her the cheesesteak was cold. The chicken looked dry because it was starting to get cold. She said she was sorry about that and would have the kitchen make us a new one. She took the food back, and we think she just put it under a heating lamb because when she brought it back out, the food was luke warm, the bun was burned and the chicken was dry. I took the food up to the bar and told her just to forget the cheesesteak and bring us 2 slices of cheese pizza. The pizza was very greasy and the crust was dry and burned. Waitress did not come to check on us. She was at the opposite end of the bar, eating and checking her phone. Won't be back!!! read more

Racists and the food was disgusting! The pizza was burnt and lacked toppings. It reaked of a dirty Mop near the kitchen. And not to mention being charged 7 dollars for butter and noodles for my kids who all have a tomato allergy. The dough face manager is a complete joke! And smirked when I told her the grotto on Pennsylvania Ave never charges 7 dollars for butter and noodles. Then had the nerve to give me some burnt meatballs that were recooked in the microwave and the sauce was legit reheated prego sauce. We didn't get napkins until we were about to leave btw. The water had floaties and the lemonade tasted like Gatorade. Some white folk are really the worse! Woman had no intention on satisfying the customer... skin was the wrong color I guess. read more

Great food good service and excellent menu. Have been there several times, and was there in December. They did not disappoint. Have always tried to do lunch or dinner there when in town read more

Holy smokes, I've never before seen a 12 inch Mexican pizza priced at 19 bucks. That's nearly double the price of what most pizza places around my area charge! At least it tasted good though - we would have been really pissed if it didn't at that price. I think the cheesy garlic bread and side salad were the only things under ten bucks on the menu. Anyway, the food was good, the service was good, but with those prices, I don't know if we'll bother coming back. read more

I can't give this place anything less than 3 stars simply because of how hard they try. Let's just be clear: first...you do not eat here because you like good pizza. The pizza sucks. If you have ever had a real slice of New York pizza or you have been to Brooklyn you can't possibly say this pizza is good. It's definitely NOT amazing. But what if you don't give pepperonis ass? Well...you may be in the right place. Cheap beer, cheap beer, and quasi decent appetizers complemented by a bar that is half of the size of the restaurant shows you where the focus is. Come on in. Grab a drink. You know you want a cold Miller light. But seriously, it's decent. read more

Tried calling this place to order like 10 times at 10:15 PM directly from the Yelp app. Keeps going to a voicemail that isn't set up yet. Bad business practice. read more

The service was really nice and the fries were pretty good. Definitely wouldn't get the wings again.

Great service! Good was good. It's Sunday first week NFL football , 19 televisions in the Bar area, only two on the Eagles game with most of the crowd being Eagles fans??? At one point only two games left and 70% of TVs were on Miami vs LA??? Why advertise out front Eagles game when management doesn't want to show Eagles??? I'm not watching a game here again. read more

First time going to this Grottos, I enjoy it's location because they're usually only near the beach. Definitely going again, I went with my siblings for dinner. I highly recommend the beach fries with a side of cheese, if you're a Thrashers fan then these fries are for you. They are probably some of the best fries I had with pizza in a long time. We got boneless wings because they were a little cheaper, and it was a great idea because they were delicious and crispy. The staff was super friendly and we tipped well for their efforts. The Grotto's specialty though, their Pizza was very mid. We got a large pie and it was very overdone with the bottom of the pizza being burnt in some areas. Overall, I enjoyed and it was well worth the money! read more

No words to describe it, not coming back.... Not even the tvs were worth it, food, service, music are hard to compare to anything....

We love it here tonight we got a mix up with our fries but we got free fries who doesn't like free fries we had a waiter named Hayley she's in training but she didn't act like it she was awesome and we are looking forward to seeing her again. read more

Yelp states open till midnight but they closed at 11 and we drove over to find that they would not serve us .

We were a party of 3. Dad order cheesesteak which looked like a kids meal, very small. Came with chips and a pickle only wasn't even close to being a meal. Mom got a cesar salad a bit small too. I ordered the calzone, veggie, very good plenty of cheese and flavor. Our meals were brought out separately, well my folks got theirs and I had to wait, why didn't they bring them all out at the same time? read more

I stopped at Grotto for lunch. The restaurant building is fairly new and nicely appointed. The drink specials looked inviting (but too early in the day for me). I had a pizza and salad lunch special for $6.99. The salad was okay, but had too much of the white center part of the lettuce which is not my favorite part of a head of lettuce. I really wanted to try a Grotto pizza (I heard it was good). The "Grotto legendary" pizza was disappointing and tasted more like a frozen supermarket pizza. I was hoping for a better pizza experience. I would return for the daily drink special and try some of the other food items, but not the pizza. read more

Excellent addition to the Middletown pizza scene. Always dependable food and the service is excellent as well. Pizza is top notch as you'd expect at Grotto as well as the excellent boli's and pasta dishes. The new weekday dine-in specials are great as well. A great place to take the family. Only downside is lack of delivery option and the fact they haven't yet enacted football betting at this location. Hands down the new best pie in Middletown. read more

I stayed at the hotel across the parking lot from this pizza place and picked up a large pie and wings for a late night meal after a long day of traveling. The place was fairly busy but the pickup was pretty quick after placing the order. We ordered a large Baker's Choice pizza which had a variety of toppings, including pepperoni, sausages, mushrooms, and onion and garlic. The pizza smelled delicious and was super hot and fresh. Unfortunately, when I got back to the hotel room and started eating it, I was not as excited as I had hoped to have been. The cheese was a waxy tasting and the tomato sauce was not my favorite (a little too sweet for my liking). The toppings were all pretty tasty except for the garlic which was a little burnt and therefore did not taste as floral and strong as it could have. The boneless wings though, which were coated in a sweet soy/teriyaki sauce were amazing! I wish I had ordered just the wings, for if I forget the pizza, this review would be 5 stars! If staying in the area, I would definitely recommend the wings (but not necessarily the pizza)! read more

Stopped at this Grottos to watch some football on Sunday. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Much better then the Newark location. The place is.well staffed and the pizza was good. First time at Grotto despite years living in and near Delaware. Ordered a Junior with sausage and while its not the Philly style I tend to prefer I really enjoyed it. I'm reminded of pizza I had in Italy but that was in Naples in 1991 so who really knows? The crust was thin, crispy and the sauce just spicy enough to make it interesting. The service was friendly and attentive. The prices were quite reasonable. I look forward to returning. read more

The wings and pizza were pretty good. Did Grottos change anything in their pizza? Just didn't seem to have as much flavor as I remember.

Although we have had good pizza and food here, last night was the straw that broke the camels back. My wife and i wer sat for 15 mins and ignored whilst the wait staff walked around and ignored us. When we came in we told the girl we wanted a table, to which she said, how about a booth? Really? We said table. The staff are all high school students with no professional skills. We left, management made no attempt to remedy. Went to roadhouse. Got treated like royalty. read more
