I've walked past Longo's Discount for years while visiting the bakery across the street, but today…read morewas my first time going in--and I'm so glad I did. What brought me in was a conversation with my neighbor. I complimented her on how nice her perfume smelled, and she told me she bought it at Longo's. I have migraines and chemical sensitivities, so I'm very picky about fragrances. Most are too strong, but hers was light, fresh, and beautiful enough that I had to ask where she found it. Today I stopped in looking for a light floral fragrance and found a 3.3 oz bottle of Burberry London, along with lotion, two bottles of foaming hand soap, paper plates, and wipes--all for about $53. The prices were excellent. What really impressed me, though, was the store itself. Joe has been serving the South Philly community through Longo's for 60 years, and it shows. Their fragrance selection rivals department stores, with everything from current favorites to nostalgic classics. They also carry household essentials, cosmetics, paper goods, and even delicious biscotti and other treats. It's the kind of neighborhood store where you never know what great find you'll come across. Chain stores definitely have their place, but there's something special about supporting a family-owned business that's been serving the community for 60 years. Great selection, great prices, and friendly service. If you're in South Philly, stop in. You just might leave with exactly what you didn't know you were looking for.

This store has the warmest, friendliest, most helpful cashiers in the biz. **COMPLIMENT DOES NOT APPLY TO EMPLOYEES WORKING THE FLOOR** To give you a sense of the variety offered at this store, here is the shopping list of my most recent visit: * Citronella Oil for tiki torches * Whoppers malted milk balls * Curtain rods, 48"-84" * Slippers * Plastic zip-ties * Wire for hanging picture frames * Hi-liters * Febreeze * More Whoppers * Smokes * $25 cash back IN FIVES!!! I had a very disappointing experience at this Family Dollar location (6438 Sackett Street,…read morePhiladelphia, PA). My minor son made a small purchase using a $10 bill and was given back eight dollars and 21 pennies -- shortchanging him by 75 cents. When I returned to the store minutes later to resolve the issue, the cashier (who claimed to be the manager) admitted he had no coins and said it was "my fault" for not sending my child with exact change. Rather than apologizing or offering a fair solution -- like rounding the change or returning the full $10 -- I was left to argue over 75 cents. I returned the item and only received $1.25 back, meaning the store still kept some of our money. This is completely unacceptable, especially from a large corporation that should be equipped to handle basic cash transactions. The service was slow (one cashier, long lines), the attitude was dismissive, and the resolution was unfair. Marginalized communities deserve better treatment and respect -- not to be nickel-and-dimed and blamed for the store's lack of proper resources. Very disappointing.

If you're thinking... - Come on now, no one deserves 5…read morestars. It's not like a steak dinner, great bottle of wine, or an amazing hotel. - ...then stop and think about the following: how much money would I save save if I saved a penny doubled each day from the prior day for an entire year. While you do that new thinking we are going to talk about why this store deserves 5 stars. Let's face it, value is why we go. Their inventory for such a small foot print of a store is amazing and for the most part the items match the value. But there are somethings in this store that exceed value. These guys crush HomeDepot, Lowes, Rite Aid, and Wallgreens for some items. Which items? I'm not going to tell you the items I think are gems because I'm going there today and I don't want to find they have no more of X because of this review. :-) Plus I don't want them to know and raise the price on my fav's. But here are a few items that I've purchased over the years that I love. Exhibit A.) I needed new carpet for stairs from the main floor to the second floor. So no one would slip and fall I pulled up the 12 year old carpet and padding. Know what's under your carpet and padding? Years of Out of sight, out of mind hack jobs from the past. The stairs looked a hot mess. While in Dollar Value after pulling up the carpet I saw their large spooled carpet (runners.) After running home to measure and running back to the store I purchased enough of one of the carpets spooled up to cover my stairs. I love it. I changed how the stairs look just to match the carpet that I liked. (see photo) Exhibit B.) Everyone in South Philadelphia loves when the sun comes up over the horizon and house roofs into their bedrooms. When that happens we all know to get up and get out to our backyards and collect the eggs from the chickens. NOT! I don't know one South Philadelphian who loves getting up in the morning (besides me.) And they hate that fireball streaming into their bedrooms. I've seen blackout curtains purchased by previous roommates. They didn't do squat to blackout anything. When a roommate moved out I decided to purchase blackout curtains from Dollar Value. I thought they're not going to work so might as well buy something that at least looks nicer than what the old roommate purchased and left for me to throw away. So I bought blackout curtains, hung them, pulled them closed, and HOLY SMOKES THEY WORK AS STATED! The only way to get it any darker would be to use brick to cover the windows or close my eyes and LOOSELY put a pillow over my face. They even worked WAY BETTER than the stuff previous roommate purchased someplace else. They worked so well that I purchased another set of curtains for all the bedrooms. And since I wanted to do curtain pullbacks... Exhibit C.) I purchased the circular curtain pullbacks where you insert a provided rod to hold the curtain tight. (see photo for curtain and gold curtain pullback.) You will find great everyday items and great unique items to change up your life and home. Oh and the staff if extremely friendly and helpful. Say hello and ask nicely and they will help you. They will help you if you don't say hello and probably will help you if you're rude, but why would you want to ruin someone else's day? They didn't make your day terrible. They are really nice so if you have or had a disagreement with them then it's definitely you and not them. Five Stars and well work the walk to the store and a walk home carrying full bags of things I need. - jga Any type-o's or grammatical errors in this review proves I am human, I make mistakes, and I am not a perfectionist. :-)

I visited this Dollar Tree solely to purchase food items to get me through the weekend while in the…read morecity of Philadelphia. Things like cereal, water, nutrition drinks and snacks I could eat rather than what is available at my hotel, which we all know are ridiculous in price. Another item I needed was toothpaste which is an item I purchase on a regular basis from Dollar Tree. Needless to say, I was grateful that this location was a little over 1/2 of a mile away from my hotel in South Philadelphia. With it being near closing time, the atmosphere felt lifeless at this location. And I must point out that I was very disgusted at the appearance of the aisles and shelves because items appeared ransacked, and some items were on the floor. I have never seen a Dollar Tree look like this and I have been to many. I had an issue of my ankle being in slight pain, so an item that ended up on my radar to purchase was an ankle compression supporter to ease the pain on my ankle while running Independence Broad Street Run. I find myself amazed at what I can find at Dollar Tree and an ankle compression supporter is one of those things. And its quality is just as good as one sold at a much higher shopping chain. To go along with compressing my ankle pain, I found and purchased a Cold & Hot - Extra Strength Medicated Patch which I looked more as for easing post run pain. Purchasing the Extra Strength Medicated Patch was beneficial because not only was I able to place a patch on my ankle, but one on my sprained neck as well which I felt oddly into Independence Broad Street Run. Mixed in with the ransacked items on-shelf, I was fortunate enough to find a small travel sized tube of Crest gum detoxify deep clean toothpaste, which was not my ideal choice, but it was acceptable. Now I have been buying large bottles of water from Dollar Tree for some time now. Because it has my preferred brands in stock like Alkaline, Aquafina, Dasani, Eternal, LifeWTR, and even Alka 65 which keep me purchasing consistently. I felt as though this location did not have many choices available, but I did find a satisfying purified water brand shelved. There were plentiful cereal options stocked, but to go along with the many options of cereal, there was no shelf stable milk available. Its lifespan, price, and carton size works for me in comparison to buying milk out of supermarket stores. With there being no shelf stable milk available, I ended up settling for Modern Pantry Almond plant-based beverage which I felt at the time was the next best thing to shelf stable milk. And it came in a similar container as shelf stable milk and its taste. Wow! Fruit & Grain Bars are an item that I continuously purchase from Dollar Tree because they work perfectly as a snack, with 140 calories per serving in each bar. Since I could not find the things I needed for cereal, I purchased a box as something I could eat to satisfy those hunger moments during my weekend. And there were plentiful options to choose from that were shelved at this location. In spite of being a regular Dollar Tree customer, I have never once encountered Bubly burst sparkling water beverages, so I admired the flavors prior to hopping in line. And in the process, I ended up grabbing flavors triple berry, and watermelon lime. Whether it be for the purchase of cereal, water, toothpaste, nutrition drinks or even snack foods, Dollar Tree continues to be a place where I spend on a regular basis. Happy shopping, and blessings to all that have stumbled upon and read this review. ~ Count your blessings. ~ Thomas G

I can't say that I've ever made a list of things I've needed and not found everything (or a reasonable substitute) here. There's another discount store in the area but I choose to go here not just because of the large selection, but the owner (or who I assume is) is very helpful. I can literally browse in here to the point where I have to set a time limit for myself to get what I came for and leave. I've never seen anything at an unreasonable price. Credit/debit min is $10 which is easily spent. If driving, pretty sure you can park in the lot adjacent to the store. Dollar Days is highly recommended. ::Bonus:: There's a fruit/veggie truck that's typically parked outside the store that sells fresh items at a great price as well.
