My minor son made a small purchase using a $10 bill and was given back eight dollars and 21 pennies -- shortchanging him by 75 cents. When I returned to the store minutes later to resolve the issue, the cashier (who claimed to be the manager) admitted he had no coins and said it was "my fault" for not sending my child with exact change. Rather than apologizing or offering a fair solution -- like rounding the change or returning the full $10 -- I was left to argue over 75 cents. I returned the item and only received $1.25 back, meaning the store still kept some of our money. This is completely unacceptable, especially from a large corporation that should be equipped to handle basic cash transactions. The service was slow (one cashier, long lines), the attitude was dismissive, and the resolution was unfair. Marginalized communities deserve better treatment and respect -- not to be nickel-and-dimed and blamed for the store's lack of proper resources. Very disappointing.

She started yelling at me and told me to "get the fuck out of the store" that she refuse now to sell me anything and that I was probably just bored of being at home and I was seeing things on my account that's are not there (literally calling me crazy) while I was showing her my bank account. It's not like a steak dinner, great bottle of wine, or an amazing hotel. - ...then stop and think about the following: how much money would I save save if I saved a penny doubled each day from the prior day for an entire year. While you do that new thinking we are going to talk about why this store deserves 5 stars. Let's face it, value is why we go. Their inventory for such a small foot print of a store is amazing and for the most part the items match the value. But there are somethings in this store that exceed value. These guys crush HomeDepot, Lowes, Rite Aid, and Wallgreens for some items. Which items? I'm not going to tell you the items I think are gems because I'm going there today and I don't want to find they have no more of X because of this review. :-) Plus I don't want them to know and raise the price on my fav's. But here are a few items that I've purchased over the years that I love. Exhibit A.) I needed new carpet for stairs from the main floor to the second floor. So no one would slip and fall I pulled up the 12 year old carpet and padding. Know what's under your carpet and padding? Years of Out of sight, out of mind hack jobs from the past. The stairs looked a hot mess. While in Dollar Value after pulling up the carpet I saw their large spooled carpet (runners.) After running home to measure and running back to the store I purchased enough of one of the carpets spooled up to cover my stairs. I love it. I changed how the stairs look just to match the carpet that I liked. (see photo) Exhibit B.) Everyone in South Philadelphia loves when the sun comes up over the horizon and house roofs into their bedrooms. When that happens we all know to get up and get out to our backyards and collect the eggs from the chickens. NOT! I don't know one South Philadelphian who loves getting up in the morning (besides me.) And they hate that fireball streaming into their bedrooms. I've seen blackout curtains purchased by previous roommates. They didn't do squat to blackout anything. When a roommate moved out I decided to purchase blackout curtains from Dollar Value. I thought they're not going to work so might as well buy something that at least looks nicer than what the old roommate purchased and left for me to throw away. So I bought blackout curtains, hung them, pulled them closed, and HOLY SMOKES THEY WORK AS STATED! The only way to get it any darker would be to use brick to cover the windows or close my eyes and LOOSELY put a pillow over my face. They even worked WAY BETTER than the stuff previous roommate purchased someplace else. They worked so well that I purchased another set of curtains for all the bedrooms. And since I wanted to do curtain pullbacks... Exhibit C.) I purchased the circular curtain pullbacks where you insert a provided rod to hold the curtain tight. (see photo for curtain and gold curtain pullback.) You will find great everyday items and great unique items to change up your life and home. Oh and the staff if extremely friendly and helpful. Say hello and ask nicely and they will help you. They will help you if you don't say hello and probably will help you if you're rude, but why would you want to ruin someone else's day? They didn't make your day terrible. They are really nice so if you have or had a disagreement with them then it's definitely you and not them. The cashier signed us up for their discount card and said our next purchase we would get 15% off. So on our next trip back. The young man John took the time to help us find what we wanted and got us taken care of. Unfortunately I thought the discount was automatic and it wasn't. So we had went up the 3 days later because they were supposed to get a truck of rugs. So on that trip we bought back the receipt and they were able to give us the 15% off. So it wasn't a total waste of a trip. Because the truck didn't come till Friday. So we went up on Friday and John was so amazing and patient with us. I had lots of questions and John never once made me feel like I was a bother to him. This is the best customer service I have ever had. I would absolutely recommend if you need flooring. That you go see John in the Deptford NJ location. We most definitely will. The only negative thing is your discount takes a while to go into your email. So you may have to bring your receipt back to get the discount.

I was very offended. There were other people in the store that had bags on and they were not accosted. So I can only assume I was being racially profiled.
