Ah, Travers. You are the exactly like the old skool markets of my youth. Growing up, markets like…read moreyours were dotted all over the Philadelphia area. As chains and big box stores expanded, these local markets closed, one by one. I was delighted to hear that you were there, and made a point to visit. The market is in a small post war strip mall of stores surrounded by homes, so if you are thinking there's not a store up the road because clearly this is a neighborhood, you are mistaken. Stay with us. Parking was pretty easy. Entering I'm greeted with the wonderful smells of a deli. Hard to describe, it's a mixture of meat and spices and ...lemon. Sort of. First are grab and go meals (smart!) right by the door, then back to the deli where you can order a sandwich - hot or cold - and other items. Then...the PICKLE BARREL. OMG. I haven't seen one of these in SO long, and I was so excited I took a picture and sent it to all my old skool friends. They were equally excited. As kids, these were all over the place, and we loved stirring all the pickles in the brine, choosing one with the big metal tongs, slipping it in the wax paper bag so you could enjoy your treasure later. They also have actual groceries, small quantities but good variety so if you're in need of a bit of peanut butter for lunch sandwiches or a small pack of TP, you can get it there. You can also get lottery tickets and Bernie's Pretzels (yay!). The food was great, I got an italian hoagie that was delish, and some macaroni salad YUM. I also picked up a small side salad which was a nice addition to my little lunch meal and a bottle of Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer. Heck, yeah, I'll be back. You should go too, it's a great family owned place.

Pretty darn good breakfast sandwich. Fresh off the grill and you can pick your own bagel…read more I gotta give love to a place where you can get a hot breakfast sandwich, Bernie's Pretzels, Corropolese tomato pie, and some homemade chicken cutlets all in one shot.

There are times when the things that you need to cook something very special, or just something…read morevery specific cannot be found at a standard grocery. These happen to be my favorite times, as I love cooking and I love making things authentic and as legitimate as possible when I can. Over the past year, I have made it my personal achievement to become proficient in making tamales. Over the last eight months I have learned to perfect multiple different tamales, but I cannot call myself a master, as I have not put in the time of a true master. This is what led me to La Mexicana. A search for proper ingredients beyond just the simple masa and lard. I am always looking for fresh peppers when it's out of season that I cannot grow and dry myself. As well as other things to toy with my base tamale recipe to try and create new and amazing things that may have not been done before. I am happy to say LA Mexicana has everything one needs and more to make any Latin meal and also has incredible people working there. The shop looks small from the outside but runs deep with a wonderful vibe and classic decoration and bright color. They have a deli towards the side and rear and even have the wonderful pastry cabinet that I hope to find in every carniceria. If you are in the area, this is one of the best and your best bet for great produce and all the best products you will not find anywhere else.

Sometimes a person will find a gem of a store that is so easy to miss it is a shame. If you ever…read moreare curious about trying Spanish-inspired dishes or at the very least want to see what you can get in a store like La Mexicana check it out! I have gone here as of today almost a handful of times and I get more interested in food culture and how food is cooked in Mexican and other ways. There is a surprising amount of food in such a small shop including as the front sign states a deli. They also have canned foods bagged foods like beans and blue flour corn and a section of refrigerated drinks that I only scratched the surface with purchasing. If you are wanting to support a rare business in the delco area or want to make something that is hard to find ingredients for in this part of North America, this place is for you so check it out! I do think you will love it.

Consistently good prices and friendly service make this a regular stop…read more The bakery has plenty of sweet and savory items put out multiple times a day plus large French, Classic and Rustic baguettes. Some items rotate seasonally. I'm waiting for cheese pizza to come back, but liked the new scones and muffins. In moderation. I like their produce section more than Aldi, they have a consistent selection week after week. It's rare they're out of regular items like bananas or apples. Lidl tends to get rid of products without much notice so feel free to use the comment section in their receipt surveys if looking for something. Or ask when checking out. Some products are seasonal. The middle of Lidl has some good bargains. I found a water flosser and rechargeable toothbrush with a timer. My wife really likes their house brand ice cream chocolate almond sticks. I can get in and out pretty quickly even with just one line typically open.

There is something so "home-y" about this place, I just can't put my finger on it! Maybe it is getting greeted by the smells at the bakery, the endless choices of food within your grasp to make a good meal, or even just simply the pleasant lighting throughout this store. Either way I will keep comng here. I bought my stuff today and ended up with a total of about twenty dollars. To some this is seemingly steep, but I feel with the quality I find here it is worth it!

This was one of the worst experiences at a Walmart I have ever had!…read more Our nonprofit organization for over 20 years has taken families in need to Walmart during the holiday season to purchase needed items including food, clothes and toys etc. Today, December 13th was no different except for the treatment I received from this Walmart. I tried to call management the morning of our event to inform them that we would be coming to their site by 10:00 AM to pay for the goods for families. However, there was no answer after repeated phone calls to the store, so I got to the Walmart early to meet with the manager. When I got there the first manager informed me that I needed to have contact them first, I explained that I had tried. Later, I explained this same info to the front store manager . The front store manager asked her Asset Manager , to escort me out of the store while we had families who had children with disabilities in line waiting for us to pay for their goods. These so called professionals exhibited behaviors that were unnecessary, unprofessional and lacked the values of Walmart which according to their website is based on fairness and respect. Not to mention the people in charge demonstrated lack of good judgment. I had spent over $2000.00 in gift cards for families and certainly feel I and the families should have been treated better.
