It's been a year and the saga continues. We still haven't found "our" grocery store. We heard there might be a Weaver's way being put right next to us. So in anticipation we were like let's go check one out. First we drove to the little corner store one. There was no parking and a line out the door. I was like no thanks. So we put the Chesnut Hill one in the GPS. Got there and it had plenty of parking in the back. So we went in! The aisles are tight and the other customers weren't very pleasant on the day we went. That last part can't be blamed on the store. The staff was spectacular. Especially the person who checked us out. The selection here is pretty good. Like Warren said though.... I wouldn't do my regular grocery shopping here. You will need supplemental stores for the basics. Detergent, pet supplies and toilet paper. I really hate to pay over 89 cents a can for beans. I'm not trying to break the bank on rice. The bananas were so ripe. The best thing we got was these Kosher dills that were delicious. I've been just snacking on them raw. In fact writing this is making me want one. Ok I went to the fridge and ate two. Now I'm back. The fine cheese section was really great. If you're concerned about your bill stay away from it. You know how good cheese gets $$$$. A lot of brands I'm unfamiliar with but also you can tell from my reviews I'm cheap. The veggies were great and I got several meats that were excellent quality. So in short the place is pretty cool. I hope they open one close to us. A more convenient location could solidify the deal.

Food co-ops, CSA's farmers markets, Natural food stores etc....right up my alley. I was thrilled to find this little co-op on my way to the coffee shop down the street. it's the size of a small market, but is complete with produce, meats, and dry goods. I decided to check it out and do a little of my weekly shopping there. Other than having great fresh local/organic stuff, there was also some other cool things like a spice area where you buy only what you need (a la carte!), and the fact that the nice man repacked a much to large bin of slivered almonds into a small bin for me to buy-no questions asked. I loved their prepared food section with all the different hummus and pestos- would love to return again :)

Visited Weaver's Way the other day as I was walking down the avenue. Needed some veggies for stir-fry and found so much more. If you enjoy fresh, healthy & organic foods, this is the place for you. The selection of fruits and veggies beats most of your local supermarkets. They have a variety of prepared dips and spreads that look amazing. There's a healthy alternative for almost every kind of food you would find in your major supermarkets ranging from cereals and chips to taco kits and sauces. They have some delicious looking meats, although they are a little more expensive as you might expect. I was also pleasantly to see a little hot bar for lunch and dinner platters to make and take with you. Looked delicious! If you want fresh and organic foods and don't mind spending a tiny bit more, be sure to give this market a try. I will definitely be going back again soon.

Very pricey very small avocado- organics for the well-heeled

Love the co-op for many reasons but jeez now corn and avocados join pineapples and cantaloupe in the list of palm sized pricey produce items. As a member owner, it's downright embarrassing. SEE PHOTOS

Good place to stop for fresh fruit and produce. Prepared foods are also delicious. Great place to support local farms and food purveyors.

It's not just the vegetables: the dairy selection is outstanding, the eggs are the best eggs I've ever used! The local cheeses on offer are like nothing you've tasted! The meats section is comprehensive. If you want to amplify your kitchen this is it. I have created some epic dinners since I've started as a member of Philly Foodworks. Yes they are a tad more expensive but the quality and freshness of having produce farm direct is worth it. I love the once a week delivery. If you're a serious cook wanting to produce "chef quality plates" become a member. Quality is assured, they stand behind what they sell. Service is top notch Check out their website.

I really enjoyed getting my produce from Philly Foodworks while living in Philadelphia. I went for…read morethe subscription box and it was almost always full of a variety of perfectly ripe fruits and veggies. Once in a while I would get something that was not as fresh, but it was very rare. Philly Foodworks is unique among csa-type distributors because they have a full online grocery store you can shop from, whether you're getting a produce box or not. I was able to get almost all of my groceries each week from Philly Foodworks with their numerous options. If you shop around, you can find really affordable items as well. Subscriptions for eggs, dairy, and meat offer further discounts. In general, I ended up spending as much, or a tad less, than I would for the same items from an actual grocery store. I only ever shopped online, but I believe they also have a store front you can go to if that option is better for you. They deliver right to your doorstep for a small fee and the actual process of getting groceries/subscriptions was always a breeze. The quality of the food cannot be overstated. Once you go direct from the farm, it's hard to go back to the tasteless big-box grocery store produce. The eggs and milk were also amazing, as was the beef. Last but not least, they're a great organization with increasing access, sustainability, and regenerative farming practices at the root of everything they do.

I have tried so many different fruit/veggies and it is extremely cheap compared to what I would spend at the grocery store. I get the mini produce box. It costs $20 including shipping and handling. I used to get it delivered biweekly but I updated my deliveries to weekly and just use this as my food shopping option! I have been adding extra things (another awesome feature) so that it is filled with amazing fruit and veggies. The only downside that I have found is that there have been a few times that the lettuce has been very close to being bad. Everything else has lasted me over a week and they even send you recipes that you can use for each of your items that you are sent. I don't know if I will ever cancel this subscription because it is too great.

I feel I get a lot of bang for the buck, they offer produce that's way better than our local supermarkets, and the quantity of food is abundant. Crazy as it sounds, we still get excited opening our HH box on Sunday morning and seeing what's inside ... I can't think of a bigger compliment than that. P.S. Just want to reemphasize, the produce quality is so much better than what's available at the four major supermarkets in our area.

This is our second year of purchasing a share from Pennypack's CSA and we have yet to be…read moredisappointed. The quality of the produce is excellent and the thought and care put into the farm is unmatched. While they are not certified organic, they practice natural, practical, and ecologically sound and sustainable farming. They have a lot of signage posted throughout the farm (as part of their education program) that explains how and why things are they way they are at the farm. They also have a boatload of dedicated volunteers and workers who keep everything running efficiently. They are happy to answer questions about the farm, the food, and often have ideas about what to do with everything. We purchased the small share and that entitles us to 6 items chosen by us from the options available that day. Last night we chose a pound of carrots, a head of lettuce, two pounds of summer squash, beets, swiss chard, and two pounds of cucumbers. Other items available include kale, bok choy, scallions, and broccoli as well as pick your own string beans and raspberries. They have an extensive herb garden where you can pick your own herbs for cooking that week. Finally, you can cut a bunch of flowers to take with you each week as a part of your share as well. This year we split our share with another family, so we go every other week for our pick up -- as a family of just two, this works out well for us! While the benefits are many (supporting local agriculture, eating local, sustainable food, health, getting outside in a garden), the CSA is a little bit of work. Each share requires a few hours of volunteer work be completed at the farm. Furthermore, when you get home with your pile of veggies, you need to clean and prep them as well as figure out recipes. They leave the vegetables generally intact with the greens and such on top. It turns out you can and should use those parts of the vegetables as well, but if you're a novice (like us) it takes some research and planning to figure out what to do with things like carrot tops and beet and turnip greens. Even though it's a lot of work, it's a fun learning experience and would definitely be a worthwhile activity to get the kids involved with. Check out their website early in the new year for information about signing up for a share -- they go fast!

Living Hope CSA is great because they have a close drop off location to my house, and I like supporting local farms which provide us weekly fresh organic produce free of fertilizers and pesticides. The vegetables (and fruit such as tomatoes) are DELICIOUS, but I think other CSAs give more produce each week. (We compared what we got to what our friends get from other CSAs that also do 6 items for a small share.) At one point during the summer, Living Hope CSA did email all its members to say sorry about the quality of vegetables since the weather has been hot, but I think it would have been nice if they offered credit back or a discount for future farm shares. One thing I like about this CSA is that you can pick from a list of what you will be receiving each week. (The other CSA I am comparing to does not let you pick each week.) Unfortunately, by giving the option of choice, sometimes they run out of the popular items and you get a random item instead. That's okay, but sometimes you will receive out of season vegetables. For example, I received potatoes in the middle of summer (tiny potatoes in a tiny portion). I did order potatoes later in the fall though, and they were great. Save the cool season vegetables for the cool season!
