This place was great! I was visiting a friend and she suggesting checking it out, and boy am I glad she did. You pay for a basket and then hop on a bus to go pick the peaches! There are a couple stops to choose from, depending on the type of peaches you want. Afterwards, you hop back on the bus to the farmers market. They have a TON of local treats, drinks, and items to purchase. And the apple cider donuts are great too! Such a fun little day trip, and very family friendly. read more

So we have been to orchards all over the region for apple picking, pumpkin picking and the occasional event. Of all of them we really like Highland due to the age of our kids 1& 3. It is: 1- very manageable for this age 2- parking is reasonable 3- the place is big but not huge like a Linvilla 4- the people are very nice 5- apple cider doughnuts, I mean yum! 6- there is a small far market. Again manageable 7- there is a snack stand/ a little more than that. 8- they have animals for the kids to feed 9- they have a playground great for kids probably up to 8ish 10- they bring in vendors and merchants from the outside including breweries, distillers and food for the big weekends. This is a perfect morning or afternoon for the family. Two thumbs up for sure! read more

Love this place! I've been getting a small fruit and veggie share for quite some time now and I'm never disappointed. Unlike some CSA programs, this one runs all year (sometimes in the winter, they'll throw in one of their fresh jams or chutneys, which I always enjoy). They offer dozens of pick-up sites on basically any day of the week, so there's bound to be something to fit even the busiest schedule. Since we are just a two-person household, we do a small share every other week. For just under $16 per share, we get a bag jam-packed with the freshest produce on the farm. For example, my most recent share had 3 sweet potatoes, a head of cauliflower, a bunch of beets, half of a head of cabbage, 4-5 carrots, some brussels sprouts, fresh sage, and a bag of fresh cranberries. There is always at least one type of fruit and one fresh herb. Each Monday, you can find out what you'll be getting on Facebook (and often they'll post recipes too!), so it's easy to plan meals for the week so that nothing goes to waste. I enjoy the excuse to seek out new recipes to use the various ingredients, and we've gotten to try things I wouldn't have ever bought on my own (persimmons, anyone?). Their baked goods are delightful; one of my best friends eats their multigrain bread without any kind of butter or jam --- it's that good. Recently, I enjoyed their cranberry orange nut bread. They also offer fresh meats (even a meat CSA), eggs, and dairy products, but I can't speak to their quality as I haven't tried them yet. read more

I love love love my weekly fruit share from Highland Orchards. For only $12/week (plus delivery fee), I get 8-12 apples and a side item--usually jam, applesauce, or dried fruit-- in the winter, or a variety of berries in the summer. I can pick it up just a block from my house at Honey's Sit & Eat, and I'm set for my fruit for the next week! My friend gets a biweekly veggie share, just for her, and she says it's the perfect amount. They also have a fantastic website set up where you can add on any veggies, fruits, bread, or cheeses you'd like to a share for the week (how about a cucumber for $2, or a box of mushrooms this week?), and it gets delivered along with everything else. Happy to spend a little extra for the convenience factor (top-notch convenience) and supporting a local farm. read more

We were looking forward to picking cherries toward the end of the season in June. I was a little surprised to find that the cost to pick your was $12.95 per quart. I was even more surprised when we got out to the cherry orchard that there was a "$2.00 field access fee". The directions to get out to the fields was confusing with minimal signage. We had to drive around a bit to find it. Overall, a disappointing experience. read more

Really love this little place. It's well needed in the area. They are my go-to spot for cooking pumpkins (and apple cider donuts too). A little bit hard to find the entrance if you aren't familiar but that's understandable. I definitely recommend Highland to anyone in need of a farm market in the area. read more

Not the best produce in the area, but pretty close. The heirloom tomatoes are quite good this year. Sweet corn wasn't quite to the level of what we've been getting recently, but it turned into a nice chowder. Prices are a little high relative to what you might find elsewhere. Pepper and leafy greens are cheaper and better at the West Chester Growers' Market. As with most things in Delaware, the most noxious state in the union, Highland is hemmed in by state highways and sprawl that should make your skin crawl. New Jersey gets a pretty bad rap, but that's undeserved compared to what Delaware has to offer. Probably the sixth or seventh circle of hell. They also sell pretty good canned and baked goods. I wish they'd lose the Martin's potato chips. I'm not going to drive somewhere else just for a bag of chips. And while Martin's are local, they're also disgusting and taste like lukewarm, mealy Burger King french fries. read more

I get the small veggie w/fruit CSA. I love it. My ACH payment is debited every Monday at midnight; a basket of goodies magically appears at work Thursday afternoon. The cherries & strawberries...omg! I definitely didn't think about our lovely Delaware pollution affecting the produce until reading the Yelp reviews. From a health standpoint, I'm really think/hope (strongly hope) the facts it's fresh-picked, not waxed or irradiated, organic still make this a much healthier alternative to conventional produce. Customer service is great, they have a Hold or Donate option for when you're out of town if you can't pick up your share or what to give it away. read more

They have unique products and the ambience is great however they are misleading when it comes to eggs. The brown eggs I bought were not from the hens on the premises. The eggs were very large and uniform in color. Its just not possible the hens there can lay such large eggs. Also the yokes were pale yellow. It was clear that they sell industrial farm eggs as their own, very disappointing. The shop is a neat experience though. read more

I have always wanted to stop here but because you can't see it from the road, and it's on a busy street, I never made it until now. Go down the driveway, and you will see a small store. It was wicked hot the day I went so I was happy to feel the A/C working in the place. I picked up a few things here. Tomatoes 5 stars. They should be as it is the peak of the season Farm eggs 3 stars - I have eaten 4 and can't tell the difference between these and a high quality grocery store egg $3.75/dozen Semolina sesame bread (their brand). 3 stars. Good, chewy, a bit dry but easy to slice Apple cider donuts were the highlight- sweet and cakey worth the visit. 5 stars. Not all the produce is theirs--obviously not the lemons and such but they are honest about it. Outlanders do not get the same treatment as known faces and for the produce prices, they could do better there. They have creatures for young ones to admire and not feed. read more

best produce in the area. This is an oddity-- a little three-generation family farm stuck in the middle of 50s suburbia-land. One of the three freckled blonde women (mom, daughter or granddaughter) will probably check out your fresh organic herbs, produce, milk/cheese, and more jarred pickles and jams than you could ever need. They have their own stuff as well as some non-local produce, so the selection is really impressive. Fresh herbs for $1, you can't do much better than that. I just started with the every other week CSA plan. We get a large for 2-3 people only because we do not cook every night. Thus far I am very pleased. Everything has been fresh when picked up, albeit some greens don't look so good after a few days in my fridge. But remember it's organic and has nothing on it to help keep it fresher longer. It is also an ongoing lesson to learn to eat "in season". I may drop to a small share every week with an extra fruit share in it because we eat the fruit so quickly. Could items be cheaper elsewhere? Sure I guess. But I work two jobs and don't have time to go schlepping place to place to get the "better" deals. It's relatively convenient, fresh and goes a long way towards helping my family increase their fruit and veggie intake. read more

The pig was missing. The horse was in the back field by itself. My toddler was disappointed. The fruit selection was okay but more expensive than anticipated. All in all, will not be returning. read more

One of our favorite things about living in North Wilmington is Highland Orchards. It's great to be able to get local produce whenever we need it. We signed up for their "Spring Share" a year ago, and it was a neat experience. My husband and I shared a single share with a friend of mine and her husband. It was definitely more food than we could handle, and it caused us to try some new veggies we hadn't ever eaten before. The only bummer was that the produce wasn't always super fresh. It must have been packed ahead of time, and sometimes things were on their way to going bad or got bruised in the bag. So, we probably won't pay for a share again, but we go almost weekly to get fresh produce to supplement what our garden produces. They also carry local chicken and beef on some Saturdays, and you can pick up veggie/herb plants and flowers there in the spring. The staff are friendly, and it feels good to support a local business. An added bonus is my husband gets a kick out of checking out their pigs, ducks, chickens and other animals on site. read more

I do most of my grocery shopping here. Most of the produce is grown on the farm (although they do have items from elsewhere, but they are always clearly marked), and it is pesticide-free. They also have a lot of organic grocery items (oils, vinegars, canned beans and sauces, spices, crackers, etc.) and they have baked goods, which are made on premises. I especially love to buy my eggs there, because the very chickens who lay them are right outside, and you can see how well they are taken care of and what they eat. Sure, it may cost a little more than a supermarket, but it makes more sense to me to spend the money to buy wholesome REAL food that is grown locally and without pesticides, rather than food that's been flown in from South America or produced in a factory. read more

I live less than a mile away from Highland. They are my go to for produce and eggs. I recently signed up for the veggie share with fruit and I have not been disappointed. Everything is so fresh and delicious, farm to table is the way to go and the folks at Highland are leading the way. Try the soups and salads located in the fridge next to the office, The crab bisque is the best I have ever tasted. They have introduced me to so many veggies that I wouldn't have thought about preparing unless they were handed to me as part of my share. A quick internet search yields page after page of wonderful recipes. I enjoy trying new things and CSA is the way to go. Pay these nice folks a visit, you will be pleasantly surprised. read more
