I came here with a group of friends and we had a pretty good time. The area was pretty packed on a Saturday morning but the parking was actually very accommodating. I tried the apple cider donuts, which were really addicting as many people have suggested. Definitely worth getting. We hopped on the small cart that took us to the various types of apples to pick. There was a lot to choose from and you can easily fill up your bag. After we got back, we were able to sit down and just chill over the food and beer that was available. I visited Highland Orchards this past weekend with friends that live in the area. It was hard to get a real "vibe" from the place because it was extraordinarily busy. People were everywhere. It was the first real fall-like weekend and there were events happening on the property. So, lines were long and it was "people-ey"...but the products looked good. We did walk away with a dozen cider donuts -of course! There was a very nice gentleman outside selling whiskey from a local distillery...a bottle of their rye whiskey made it home with me. Donuts and booze. Score! Under normal circumstances, I'm sure this is a great place to pick up local apples, pumpkins and other produce throughout the season. It certainly seems like a great place to take kids for hayrides and to get out in the field for apple picking. read more

Went here with my daughter and definitely preferred it to Linvilla these days. It is comparable to Linvilla but not as commercialized(which may be a good or bad thing to you) and not as crowded. They have a nice playground and animals to feed. We also went apple picking and their was a good selection. They offer hayrides as well. They have a small market, not as big as Linvilla's but we got some apple cider donuts and they were delicious. They also seem to have different events here on the weekend with food trucks and such. Definitely a nice place to take your kids for a fall activity. read more

I was excited to visit Highland Orchards after doing research on a few of the local orchards in the area! Highland has a lot to offer in variety...you can pick pumpkins (seasonal of course) or apples (check which apples are in season on website prior to trip)! I am a Granny Smith fan..they weren't in season during my visit, but I made due with the many other choices! After parking, which is plentiful..you will see the goats and a play area for kiddos! Also, if you don't purchase online tickets...you can purchase upon arrival! MHO..the website is confusing and I paid for pumpkin picking vs. apple picking? It was corrected when I pointed out the price differentials..to pick your own apples was $34! Seriously? I asked why so costly..you are paying for the 'experience' I was informed! 10/3/20 Had a nice time at Highland Orchards today for Apple picking and pumpkin picking with my family. Tickets were purchased in advance and are limited now (of course). I was a guest so I don't know much more than that regarding securing tickets/prices etc. The covid "hayride" is now a shuttle with spaced seating etc. I thought the shuttle was a lot of fun. There are two stops for different varieties of apples and then a pumpkin patch stop. You can go at your own pace and when you're ready to go to the next stop, you just go to the shuttle pick up spot. If you're Apple picking you get a bag to put your apples in. There is a cute store with fall items and food and cider for sale. The store was packed. I was glad we decided to go outside to pay because the line in the store was too long. There was a stand outside that fries apple cider donuts all day long. The smell of the donuts permeated the outdoors. Be advised the field closes at 5 and unfortunately it seems like the donut stand does too. I'm not sure how long the farm store is open. I thought I saw people drinking craft beer as well. The staff is very patient and friendly. I'm sure they answer the same questions all day long. We had a beautiful time on a perfect autumn day at the farm. It was great! read more

I have been going to Highland Orchards for as long as I can remember! Their apple cider donuts are the best I have ever had! I would give the donuts 10 stars if I could! It is my family's tradition to get them on Thanksgiving morning and I look forward to it every year! I went with my family this past weekend. We just want to shop in their market which has great desserts, produce, and other various items. They also have a variety of pumpkins and gourds for purchase. You can go apple picking, but because of COVID, you have to reserve in advance. We didn't go apple picking, but we did buy some of their apples in the market. Granny Smith apples are my favorite and they were amazing from here! They were SO TART which I love and they are perfect with peanut butter! Overall, this is a great spot for a Fall day and a must try for their apple cider donuts! It isn't the most atmospheric farm in the area, but their bakery items and produce are fresh and delicious! read more

Gotta love a local farmers market/orchard! We stopped by here in the summer on the way to a friends' house and got a bunch of things. The apple cider donuts were good but I wish they were warm! We also got some of their jam and soup to enjoy later. The downsides - the produce was pretty overpriced and I also bought an outdoor decoration but didn't realize you had to pay for it inside so I ended up having to wait inside twice to check out so better signage would've been helpful. read more

So if you have been to Linvilla about 20 miles away in Delaware County, PA, you know what Highland Orchards is about. Yes they have farm produce, but it is also a family destination with all sorts of things for the family to do, complete with animals to feed and pick-your-own fruit. There is a store where you can purchase produce, dairy and pantry items that you would not find in the local grocery along with a bakery. I would definitely try the apple cider donuts ($1) Everything else is OK, not fabulous. I was not impressed with the cherries - I got a box of the rainier and sweet reds. read more

I have been coming to Highland Orchards for years primarily for their freshly fried Apple Cider Donuts (nobody lights a candle next to these donuts). Since the pandemic rolled around, I've noticed their quality, attention to detail and customer service absolutely plummet but after being let down a couple of times I decided to give them one final try. This time with my family visiting from out of state. We ordered (2) dozen Apple Cider Donuts with no sugar. There were none pre-fried + ready to go, so they offered to fry us a new batch. It had always been customary for us to ask for a fresh new batch to be fried as long as we were okay with the wait time associated (this was our preference as the donuts coming out fresh were the ABSOLUTE BEST). We had already been waiting for a solid 10 minutes when they suddenly found a batch of ready to go sugar-free donuts. We notified the staff that we were willing to wait for the fresh batch they had already started. We were immediately met with disapproving looks and mumbled banter. Mind you, the staff is almost entirely underage and lacks the customer service this farm market really needs. As we waited now 15 minutes, the employee that initially told me she would willingly fry a new batch now made it fully aware that she had a lunch break she needed to take and could not finish my batch. I kindly asked her, "out of the other 10 employees here, is there someone else who can finish frying the batch for you?" She looked super annoyed with my question and proceeded to call another staff member whom was sitting behind the counter twiddling thumbs. After being asked to partake in "his job" he proceeded to complete the batch. But let me make it very clear that during the ENTIRE TIME he finished the batch he complained knowing we were standing just a few feet away. After waiting for now 20 minutes, listening to the nonsense coming out of this employees mouth - I just about had it. He finally handed me my batch of sugar free donuts and I let him know that, "I could hear every single word come out of his mouth. The way he and the other employees handled their jobs was extremely unprofessional and that I would NEVER AGAIN return to this market to provide my local support of their business". Throughout this entire encounter, not one ADULT took charge or supervised the situation. Customer service here is DEAD and it is unfortunate. It was once one of the characteristics that brought people to Highland Orchards. It's unfortunate, but they have permanently lost our families business. read more

Our families (us and anywhere from three to five other families) have been making bi-annual trips to Highland Orchards since 2014. It started with an annual trip for apple cider donuts (get these, and get them warm...soo good!) and apple picking to Father's Day strawberry picking with the kiddos. I love that there are certain staples at the Orchard - the apple measuring stick photo spot, the cut-out photo spots, the animals to feed - we have so many wonderful pictures of all of our kids growing through the years. On top of that, the staff is always very sweet and helpful. We always feel welcome. With all of this said, there are some things out of the control of the orchard itself - this year it was bees (so many bees!), past years it felt like we were taken to areas that were picked over and filling our bags was near impossible (okay, maybe they could fix that...), but when push comes to shove, every trip is fun! Timing is everything though- go earlier in the season for a better selection. I do wish there were more size selections (especially for strawberries), as our family doesn't need a ton of apples or berries, but the experience is so worth it. Had a great time apple picking here recently! Although they have a lot of varieties on the farm, there were only two that we were allowed to pick. Kinda was hoping for more but I guess they just weren't ready or had already been picked. The market is also super nice and has a lot of different items. We of course had to try the apple cider donuts but they didn't really live up to the hype for me. The special donut was a maple glazed and wow that one was amazing! This is definitely a great spot for families with kids- there was a train ride, kids corn maze, and you could pet/feed the goats in addition to apple picking and pumpkin picking. Apples were $14 for a half peck which we filled up with at least 10 big apples. This included the ride out to the fields and back. Pumpkins were by size but our large one was only $6. Overall it was definitely a nice spot to do our apple picking- and the apples made a great pie! This farm is a nice drive outside of Philly. My family and I went pumpkin picking. In order to do any apple or pumpkin picking, you have to make a reservation. I love this farm! It was an easy drive just outside the city and once we arrived there was ample parking. There were goats and chickens and a little swing set for the kids. The Apple cider donuts are amazingggg. I love the store where you can purchase vegetables, fruits and other grocery items. I ended up purchasing some vodka sauce. For this particular trip my friend and I came for the apple picking. We purchased our bag which is pick until you fill it. We waited a bit for the shuttle and then we were off. The actual orchards are beautiful with trees lined with a variety of apples. They tasted absolutely delicious and we couldn't wait to get home to bake and eat them. Came over to Highland Orchers with the wife and kids on a Saturday mid morning before it got too hot. We first enjoyed the playground with the kids which was in the shade before heading over to the blueberry picking field which is across the street. The property featuresA bakery a deli and a store front for buying all kinds of fresh produce. in-store is where you can pay for the blueberry picking. After the blueberry picking we had it into the deli and bought some sandwiches for lunch and ate at the mini picnic tables next to the playground area which again was in the shade and very nice. We did see the set up for the weekends where they have a beer garden in the area which I would imagine is fun. We had a great time with the kids for a few hours and we will likely be back many times. Cool place. I'll preface this review by saying I've been here twice. Once for the overall experience last fall and more recently for the pick-your-own peaches. After the first trip I would have given this place a 4 star. It's the second trip that knocked it down a peg. The 'pick your own' peaches was simple enough but it was $40 which is.. wow. And there really should be a disclaimer on the website saying you need an SUV or pickup truck to drive to the peach farm from the main building. My sedan almost "ate it" multiple times on the rough roads back there. The peaches themselves were great and my daughter really enjoyed the whole thing. But yeah 40 bucks and off-roading in a low to the earth sedan. Not exactly ideal. read more

Highland Orchards is tucked away in one of West Chester's more scenic, bucolic nooks, and is painfully adorable. The perfect place to while away a crisp autumn day. If you happen to know any chilluns, round them up and take them here, because it's a veritable kid's paradise- petting zoos, playgrounds, baked treats galore at the bakery, DIY apple & punkin' pluckin'. etc. You register to pick-your-own at the Farm Market and they direct you to where you need to go. In the fall season you have to get pre-paid bags to pick apples with...there are a few deals that are detailed on the website you can look into, but the smallest bag (half a peck) starts at 10 dollars. Don't leave without buying a pie or some of their Apple Cider donuts...hands down my favorite donuts ever. I like Highland a lot. As you'd expect they offer pick-yer-own fruit seasonally, with a focus on Apples. When Apples and Peaches are in season there is an incredible variety to be either picked or bought at their store. They do hayrides in the autumn and host lots of kids groups throughout the spring-fall. I had the best blackberries I've ever had from there last year - they were literally like candy. I've also enjoyed many great peaches and apples from there over the years. I'm fortunate to live so close to this great source of excellent produce. The Highland Orchards store also has some excellent pies & pastries and is well known in the area for their heavenly apple cider donuts, which they offer samples of, as well as fudge, rolls, and other treats. Seasonally they also do caramel & candied apples and other autumnal favorites. They have locally grown (not necessarily at their location) produce year-round. Last, they have a wall o'jams, jellies, sauces and preserves that would impress anyone fond of a Ball jar. Also on the premises is a deli/convenience store (West Bradford Market) and a Craft Store with lots of tchotchkes like wreaths, ornaments, candles, etc. Outside, Highland also has a nice little kids' play area and a goat pen where kids & adults can feed the goats - it's a lot of fun and the goats are cute. The hour or so drive (just about the length of John Mayer's first album - don't judge me) to Highland Orchards is a straight shot down 276 West towards Harriburg for me. My trusty Garmin Nuvi GPS helped me easily locate the orchard in a part of the state I've never seen before. Highland Orchards reminds me of apple and pumpkin picking when I was little - sunny afternoons spent in a field, filled with cider doughnuts, ice cream, and hayrides. I went to pick strawberries and rhubarb for jam and both crops yielded stellar results. I admit to sneaking a few berries here and there when their hulls snapped off in my fingers. Rhubarb season is almost through as the hot weather is here to stay, but there were still plenty of health stalks to be plucked. There are 6 or so strawberry fields this year I believe. Apparently, the heavy snows this year insulated the little plants and gave them plenty of moisture throughout the spring. There were many ripe, red berries to pick and I came away with over 10lbs. FYI: Strawberry picking is back-breaking work as the plants are so low to the ground. This may not be the best activity for small children who aren't sure how to spot a good berry and are likely to crush the poor things or throw them into the picking tray. I think it would be a great activity for kids 6 on up though. Don't forget to register to pick BEFORE you head to any field. This can be done in the Farm Market and someone will direct you to the appropriate field for picking. There is a 35 cent fee for the picking tray, which is waived when you bring it back the next time you come to pick. The Farm Market staff is very friendly and welcoming and offers a variety of bakery items, canning necessities, and other yummy edibles. The pick-your-own price seemed very reasonable to me compared with grocery store prices. The taste and quality of the pick-your-own produce is definitely superior. Splurge on a cider doughnut or 4 and you're a happy camper. I definitely recommend Highland over Linvilla if you want to avoid the "kiddie carnival" atmosphere. I enjoyed a lovely morning by myself here and will certainly be back for other crops. read more

The market/bakery has all types of delectables, including local cheese, home made crackers, produce, pies, apple cidar, etc. They even sell paring knives which worked well for us since we had a little picnic with fresh apples (that required a knife for cutting), locally produced cheddar cheese, crackers & apple cidar. Went to Highland Orchards with a group of people of varying ages this past weekend. You do have to wait in different lines before the picking can begin. I've been to other places where you only needed to wait in a single line and it seemed to go a bit faster, but it was such a nice day and I was enjoying the company that I didn't mind. The trees were pretty picked over when we went (and a lot of apples were on the ground). We basically had to walk all the way to the end of orchard #2 after being dropped off by the tram. Not a big deal for me, but if you plan on going with anyone who is elderly, there aren't really any places to sit that I saw once you get dropped off. They do have large bins of pre-picked apples that you can add to your bags, but if you are hoping to get a particular kind of apple, you might want to check in advance to see if they have it. After apple picking, we also went and got some pie (pumpkin) and other items from the gift shop and food store (hot dogs, chips, drinks, etc.). I know my girlfriend was pleased to see they had bottles of Stewarts. I really was holding out for the bbq (pulled pork) and was highly disappointed (I love bbq) that they were in the process of getting a new batch ready when I went to order. They said it would take 10 minutes. I would have normally waited, but in this case, I didn't want to keep all of my companions waiting. We had a great time, but yes, plan on waiting in several lines. I was disappointed in my trip here for apple picking. To be fair, it was a day or two after their big apple picking festival so that probably played a part in it. When we got out to the fields that were currently marked for picking we had alot of trouble finding good apples. Many were worm eaten or damaged and there was a ton of stinking rotten apples all over the ground. This attracted swarms of fruit flies and many bees. I've had terrible luck with bee stings this summer so I was more than a little afraid of going anywhere near most of the trees. It took us an hour to fill up a small 1/2 peck bag and in the end the $10 it cost us was far more than I would pay at my local produce shop and the experience of the picking was...not fun. Even my 7 year old was happy to just be done with it. On the plus side, and the reason I was willing to even give 2 stars: their donuts were great and we bought some pretty good cider too. I wish they were a bit closer so I could shop their market more often ( they had all kinds of jams,sauce,bakery items) but I doubt I'll ever go apple picking there again. read more

5 stars for the WARM apple cider donuts and the always memorable experiences we have when we come to pick fruit! (Oh and the apple cider is quite delicious too!) You must visit HIghland Orchards! Whether you are itching to bake a pie or cobbler from scratch from hand picked local fruit, or are looking for a fun date or activity, or want to purchase delicious baked goods it will not disappoint. In apple season I definitely recommend coming early in the morning to beat the crowds. You fill out your picking permit prior to picking in the market area. Depending on which apple types are currently ripe, buses will transport you to the appropriate fields and then you are free to peruse and pick and then pick up a bus to head back whenever you are ready. Recently I picked elusive sour cherries for the first time which are only shortly in season in the early summer. Next year I will be sure to come back at the beginning of sour cherry season instead of the end so I can make more heavenly cobblers!!! read more
