I'm a huge fan of Martindale's Natural Market! This natural market has been around since the last 1800s, and they speicalize in fresh local food, organic items, and GF food. When you step inside, everything is organized so well and super colorful - the produce is amazingly fresh, and there are no blemishes in sight! The market also has bulk foods, groceries, freezer items, and even beauty/body care and vitamins towards the back. We ended up getting some ready-made wraps, spreads, noodles, and some chocolates. Staff are readily available for any assistance. A true foodie or super nuanced vegan can find something here that is not as easy to find at other stores if at all. I would expect only grains and dry things to be unique enough but I found pre-made cashew cream cheese which I thought I might have to go to whole foods or maybe a co-op for, and that is a big maybe. Could've done online or considered making my own but time is of the essence. I didn't want to "substitute" regular cream cheese because it would affect the taste and not be vegan. I am not vegan but a vegan could not even eat something I made with such a "substitution ". The label didn't say cashew milk on it and a store associate over the phone and in-person had to help me. I learned a lot on this day by adventuring randomly on my own food journey, and Martindale's was masterful to help out! read more

Wow! This was our first time n Martindal's and we absolutely loved it. One of the reasons we loved this food store so much is because everything is organic and organized so neatly. We really struggled to make a decision, which isn't that unusual, however because they have so many different options that are all natural, it was very difficult to make a final decision. Anyway, we decided to pick up Papa Steve's all natural, high in protein, no sugar, protein bars. This was the first time we saw this brand and we were very happy with the results. There was another meal replacement bar that we wanted but they were out of stock. The cashier did take our name and number and said she would call when it was delivered to the store. In addition, we picked up Beyond Good 70% Dark chocolate. Honestly, it was out of this world. They also have a large supply of vitamins and supplements and other products that promote good health. This is one of the best natural foods and health stores I've ever seen. Huge. Whether your choice is gluten-free, organic, vegan, vegetarian, raw, you name it. They have it. And all GMO free. Entering this store is an exercise in nutritional learning too. Tons of free and paid-for material for whatever nutritional avenue one wishes to pursue. And the store staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to inform and please. The location is optimum in the Olde Sproul Shopping Center. Plenty of parking in the strip mall, and in addition, a 10-minute walk from the Media Trolley's Springfield stop. A 15-minute walk to the Elwin SEPTA line. And easy bus access. After an extensive Yelp search, looked like Martindale's was the clear winner for selection, price and variety. The produce section employees were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about origin, flavors, and recommendations. Curious about an new apple type? Just ask and you shall receive a sample taste. I even located my favorite Bulletproof Coffee, Cold Brew and Collagen Bars, WoW thought I would never find my local LA product line. The vetting of each item is extensive and I instinctively trust their selections. Prepare for higher prices than Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Despite the additional cost, still recommend for one of the best local markets for quality produce, meat, supplements and service with a smile. read more

I totally wish I lived closer to this store! Although I am sure my wallet is pleased I don't. Visited Martindale's for the first time last night and although, it was close to closing time and I didn't not have enough time to thoroughly look around, I was super impressed by the pricing/product selection I did see! The cashier, whose name I can't remember for the life of me right now, was super sweet and adorable. You can tell he really loves the store and his job. (He has longer brown hair, brown eyes, looks like a dark-haired, younger Brad Pitt in a way.) He was very knowledgable and even though they were closing up, they did not rush me or the handful of other customers in the store! Saw some Products that I have not been able to find in the typical whole foods , which is awesome and I think it's safe to say the pricing is better than Whole Foods! I have driven by this place many times, but I didn't realize it was a grocery store with everything until my neighbor told me about it. It's kind of hard to see from the road unless you're looking for it since it's located in a strip mall with a lot of other businesses. Martindale's is like a mini Whole Foods. It bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside though. As at most grocery stores, some things are cheaper, some things are the same price, and some are more expensive than other stores. I assumed overall that it would be expensive, but that is not the case! I was pleasantly surprised to find Bobbi's Hummus here for half the price of Whole Foods! Score! If you haven't tried it, you should. It's probably the most delicious packaged hummus I've ever had due to it's creamy texture. I like the roasted red pepper flavor. The produce is a little pricey, but the mint I bought was fresh with no wilted leaves. I was excited to find some single packs of Maple Candy from Vermont there. There is a large selection of vitamins and supplements if you're into that kind of thing. The cashier was super friendly. Parking is easy as there is large lot out front. I plan on going back when I need something to cook, and I'm in the area. read more

I've lived down the street for 2 years and just discovered this wonderful grocery yesterday. I have Celiacs so finding good gluten free products has been hard but this store seems like it's almost a Gluten-free store with a few non-gluten-free items thrown in. I've never seen so much variety so close to home. I would highly recommend this store for people with dietary restrictions. I did notice the prices on some things were slightly less than say wegmans and whole foods. Although the protein powders were more expensive. The staff was so nice and very helpful. Pretty good health food store with lots of local products. For your convenience, they list which produce is local and they also provide a brochure with a list of all the local goods so you can shop smart. I've only been in a few times, but from what I can tell they have a very good selection. They offer tons of alternative versions of popular food items (wheat-free pancake mix, gluten-free cookies, lactose-free ice cream, organic everything) and TONS of vitamins, if you're into that sort of thing. Love this place. I don't do a lot of my grocery shopping there, but I do get their vitamins/supplements and dairy. The staff is always helpful and friendly. I was impressed with how knowledgeable they were the last time I was in and they helped my husband and I find what we were looking for. The employee that was helping us actually went out of his way to photocopy an article out of a book so we could have it for reference. The prices are a little high- but I don't mind spending money on a local business that actually cares about their customers. I enjoy going here. "America's First Health Food Store" I love coming to Martindale's, even when I was younger and it was half the size it is today, it is still a treat. The staff are the same people that were there when it was a tiny store, they are pleasant and knowledgeable. They have a nice, non-overwhelming selection of items, unlike most normal grocery stores that make me dizzy with choices. All the choices at Martindale's are selected with the best interest of the customer. I love finding new products here, I love even more when they are on sale. This place is a real gem. I like to buy local fresh organic food as often as possible so I find myself here quite often. They have a good selection of organic produce, mostly local, but some of the items that can't be grown locally appear to be shipped in and they tell you where it comes from. They have a large selection of dried and bulk items, a whole refrigerator of different Kombuchas to choose from, decent selection of ready made meals to go, a whole wall of teas, and an entire isle of vitamins, supplements and essential oils that usually has an employee in that isle to direct you towards whatever you may need . I have found the employees in that section are very happy to talk to you about what it is you looking for and help you make the best decision. Besides that they have all the other items you'd find in any other supermarket but most leaning to the organic/eco friendly/local variety. The prices are on the higher end but with no Whole Foods or competition near by they have strategically priced at the point where I don't say, Nah uhn. I don't look vegan(i'm not), vegetarian(i'm not), overly concerned about synthetic fragrance(i'm not) or extremely concerned about soy/lactose/gluten(aren't we all) so I guess that's why they never smile when see they me. My grandmother shopped at Martindale's in Center City in the early 20th century. I'm glad this place is now in Springfield and close by. I am gluten free by medical neccesity, and they have the best variety anywhere. And always high quality. The produce section is small but beautiful. Martindale's carries hard to find natural foods and supplements, natural beauty products, essential oils, soaps, among other things. Their prices for some things are a little high but I imagine they need to be to pay the overhead for such a specialty store. And it's worth it to keep real stores in business so we don't have to order specialty items online. They offer a senior discount on regular priced items a couple of days a week. I think the days are Tuesdays and Thursdays but call them to be sure. I'm glad to have a store like this nearby. The employees are always friendly and helpful, too. read more

The best grocery market in the world by far in my opinion! Love it there and go several times a week. Organic everything. Produce is beautiful to sand and look at, and eat too! Great selection of everything organic and alternatives to allergy foods. The fresh meat section could be improved greatly - how about some buffalo, turkey, chicken dark meat, duck, goose...pastured stuff. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. I'm greeted happily by one or two as I walk in and most of the time I see one or two more in the isles who say hi or ask if I need anything. I want to support this kind of place!
