Churros

The empanadas and churros were very good. The empanadas were crispy and full of flavor, and the churros were sweet and fresh. The service was also great. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a really good experience.

Waffles and Bacon

The Staff was friendly. We ordered waffles and bacon. The waffle had lumps of sugar in it. The person who checked us out was unable to provide the correct change so use a credit card.

Breakfast quesadilla, pancakes with Nutella, homestyle potatoes, and "the beach" breakfast!

Gringo's was atop the Yelp! reviews for top breakfast places and they didn't disappoint! A small diner nestled in the end of a shopping center with some outdoor seating, they're cooking within steps in front of you mostly on a flat top grill. Fresh coffee served in their own ceramic coffee mugs complimented our breakfast quesadilla, "the beach" breakfast, homestyle potatoes, and three fluffy pancakes topped with Nutella, whipped cream, and powdered sugar hit the spot and started our morning right! Staff was friendly and service was quick! Thanks for the chow!

Here's the text with corrected grammar: I've read a few reviews, and I understand that some people don't find this place special. However, on an island where everything seems overpriced, this is a wonderful find. I have been coming to the island for about 8 years now and enjoy starting my first day on the island eating here. A good, simple, very well-cooked meal by an award-winning chef. You can sit outside or inside. Everyone is always friendly, from the staff to the customers eating. I always come alone but have never felt alone. Some other notable things that I appreciate are being able to see where my food is being cooked and the open counter. I love that no matter how long or short the line is, the food always seems to take about the same amount of time and is always on point. However, the thing that stands out the most for me is the fact that over the years and with all the customers they seem to serve, they always remember me and it makes me feel like I'm walking into a family member's house to get a meal. I look forward to coming back next year and catching up and seeing the changes.

Food was so good! Worth the price, my potato hash was seasoned to perfection! Service was quick since you order and then seat yourself. A fun walk around the area too!

Burger and fries! Well seasoned patty!

My wife and I stopped in for a quick lunch and both decided to try the best rated burger on HHI! It wasn't bad! The burger is almost like a meatloaf consistency and thick, not like the popular smash burgers that are the rave right now. The fries were fresh cut and HOT when they came out! The burger was hot too! It may not have been the best burger I have ever had, but it was the best burger I have had on the Island! Although, to be fair, it is the only burger I have had on the island... The staff was super friendly and although the inside was cramped, it was well air conditioned and a nice break from the heat! This is not a 5 star dining establishment and not looking for a James Beard award, it's a beach burger shack and it delivers! To those about to dine, I salute you!

Ordered breakfast at counter. Server brought meals to outside table. Quick service but selections weren't extraordinary.

Best breakfast taco you can find. The Gringo breakfast is all the best of brunch at a great price. Staff is so friendly and service is fast.

A Lowcountry Backyard - SHRIMP AND GRITS

A Lowcountry Backyard

Family favorite every time we visit! A hidden gem with a unique menu…read more Just went last night and had with the sweetest, friendly waitress, Mickey. Had the grilled shrimp BLT salad for the first time and it was amazing! So were the fried green tomatoes and even the lima beans! A very unhurried, relaxing backyard eating experience. Can't wait to go again the next time we visit!

It doesn't feel corporate or manufactured at all. More like you've stumbled into somebody's lovingly chaotic backyard dinner party where the food just happens to be genuinely top-tier. The mismatched charm, handwritten feel, and warm atmosphere are part of what makes it so special. There's this brilliant contrast between the laid-back hole-in-the-wall vibe and the seriously refined cooking coming out of the kitchen. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were incredibly tender, fried perfectly, and drizzled with a lovely house-made ranch. The sweet house pickles alongside were such a good touch. We also each had a cup of she crab soup which was beautifully seasoned and packed with tonnes of crab morsels. For mains, we shared the shrimp and grits and completely understood why the recipe has won awards, including being recognised as the 3rd best in the world. The recipe is rooted in traditional Lowcountry cooking but elevated with layers of flavour that somehow still feel comforting and homemade. The grits were unbelievably creamy, and the shrimp and sausage were perfectly cooked with fantastic flavour throughout. We also split the seafood purloo with blackened grouper, and it was equally impressive. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted incredibly fresh without trying too hard to be fancy. What really made the experience though was the staff. Everyone went above and beyond. They took time to chat with us about the area, paced the courses perfectly so nothing felt rushed, and by the end we were leaving with handshakes feeling more like guests than customers. Places like this are getting harder to find. We'll absolutely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Lowcountry food served by genuinely wonderful people.

I tried the Sand Dollar latte, it was so good. 10/10. We were seated quickly, and they have a nice indoor dining area, and a lovely outside patio. Service was very quick, as we also ordered breakfast. I had their omelet with hashbrowns and toast. Nice portion sizes, and very good! Best of all was the price. Very reasonable. This place goes on our list of regular stops on HHI. Give it a try!

Somehow, we still waited 35 minutes just to be seated. After finally sitting down, we ordered immediately and then waited over 40 more minutes for food that wasn't even hot. To make matters worse, two of the orders were wrong. The pancakes came out with no syrup, and our server was basically nonexistent, only showing up twice in an hour, so we had to get up and get it ourselves. The poached eggs on the fourth meal were severely undercooked and practically raw. What made the experience even worse was having two young children with us who were completely melting down by the end because everything took so long. A restaurant should know better than to leave families sitting that long with no urgency, no communication, and no follow-up. What should have been a simple breakfast turned into a two-hour waste of time with bad service, poorly prepared food, and zero attention to detail. There is no excuse for this level of incompetence. I would absolutely not recommend this place.
