Best subs on Hilton Head - Fat Boy and Jedi nailed it! My wife and I stopped at Stu's Surf Side Subs in Coligny Plaza and left completely satisfied. I ordered the Fat Boy and she got the Jedi, and both were excellent. The Fat Boy was loaded -- pastrami, roast beef, turkey, ham, capicola, pepperoni, salami, provolone, plus all the fresh veggies and dressings on that soft, fresh-baked bread. Huge portion and packed with flavor. My wife's Jedi (the Italian) was just as good: Genoa salami, spicy capicola, pepperoni, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, and Italian dressing. Perfect balance and really fresh. Friendly service, quick, and right in the heart of Coligny. Highly recommend if you're craving a solid sub near the beach. We'll be back! read more

This place was absolutely amazing--such a hidden gem that's been here for years, and we can't believe we hadn't tried it sooner. We will definitely be back and plan to make this a regular stop. We ordered a variety of subs, including a chicken salad sub, a turkey and avocado sub, and a pastrami Reuben (they all have names and numbers on the menu, which makes ordering easy). Every sub was a hit, but the real standout was the bread. It was hands down one of the best parts of the meal--fresh, flavorful, and honestly addictive. As someone who loves Jersey Mike's bread, this was far superior. We paired our subs with Vick's chips and sodas, which rounded everything out perfectly. We sat inside since the outdoor seating was full, and the interior was filled with memorabilia and details that really told the story of the place and added to the experience. It felt welcoming and full of character. The owner--or the gentleman working the register--made the experience even better. He was constantly checking in, taking orders, delivering food, and making everyone feel at home. His positive attitude and ability to juggle everything so seamlessly truly stood out and made us want to return. Between the outstanding subs, the warm service, and very reasonable prices--especially while traveling--this place checks all the boxes. Started our vacation here, based on a friends recommendation. It was spot on and we will be back later in the week! Cute place is a busy shopping area but worth the hunt. Jess had #9 which was a HUGE roast beef sand which. A lot (and I mean a lot) of meat and she couldn't finish half. I ate some too. It was delicious. I had #29, the hot sausage with pepper and onion. Delicious and made fresh. Abs the bread? Omg you have to try. It's house made and by someone who knows how for all their sandwich's. Delicious!! Idk how they bake the bread but it's so fluffy and soft. I got the #18 (ham, turkey, bacon) and definitely should have gotten the half. They load it so full that the size is deceiving! I came here passing through with a party of 17 people while visiting Hilton Head. We were just looking for a quick bite. To be honest, I was very hesitant to come here because I thought it'd be hectic to have a bunch of people sit in their restaurant and order. The restaurant isn't too big but it seated all of us comfortably. The staff was super kind and handled all our orders like a pro! We even found out one of the staff members was from Toronto like myself. The sandwiches came out super fast which was great since I was starving. Now onto the food. I got the calibogue. My partner and sister got the WOW tacos with some gumbo. The main thing that makes this sandwich special is the bread. It was so fluffy and soft. It really elevated the entire meal. I think I can say that this was the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. I know it may seem like a basic sandwich, but the portions and quality of ingredients really stand out. This taco was absolutely delicious. I know it looks a bit messy and granted, it is BUT it was worth it and so well made. The pork was soft and the toppings seemed very fresh. It came with a side of salsa that also paired well with the taco. We walked in with a party of 17 people and the establishment was so accommodating and welcoming which made the experience one of the best I've had during my time in Savanah. This place is amazing! They bake their own bread, and every sandwich--hot or cold--is served on it. You can even have your sandwich toasted or warmed, and the peppers on the counter are the perfect accompaniment. Man oh man, don't think I've had a better sub! I tried a turkey/bacon one and my word it was delish. I got it toasted and that made it absolutely amazing. I walked in and was greeted by the friendly man behind the register who I later found out his name was Matt. He was amazing. Every time that I visit the island, Stu's is a MUST visit. The bread is made freshly in house (literally you can see them back there making it when you walk in), which is the difference maker. A standard sandwich is 8" and packed with meats/toppings, and unless you are really hungry, I suggest sharing it. There are lots of sandwich options from hot to cold deli meats and vegetarian. Service is from a counter, but there is a nice sized seating area if you choose to dine in. Usually, we take ours to go to enjoy at the beach or pool. read more

I hadn't been to stew's Surfside in years and I don't know why. This sub shop is excellent. Their bread is fresh their sandwiches taste great. The staff is very friendly. I picked up sandwiches from here twice to eat at the pool and loved each one. One day I ordered the islander sandwich, which was good, but it could've used a little more of their gourmet mayo. The other sandwich I ordered was the Harbourtown classic on a wrap and I really liked this one. I know the south doesn't seem to be big on low carb options, so a suggestion may be is to offer the sandwiches in a lettuce leaf instead only bread. I will be back next year! read more

A couple of friends and i were staying close by and got a recommendation for this place from a local. We stopped by for lunch on a Saturday in October. They are located in a plaza across the road from the beach. If you were relaxing on the beach, it would be less than a 10-minute walk to get here. It is on the side of the plaza facing away from the shore. They have a variety of sandwiches from which to choose. We were warned that the size was pretty large, and I can vouch for that - I ended up taking half of my sandwich back home for dinner. Not a complaint! They also had bagged chips and at least fountain drinks. They may have had some canned beer also, though i don't specifically recall (I did not order one). So good. This is always our HHI tradition. Great clubs, amazing "steak bomber", chicken salads, ham and/or turkey sandwiches, cookies, and so much more. Nothing is bad here and the bread is absolutely amazing. The service is always friendly, the owner and manager are both great, and while the no longer have the dollars on the wall, they've decorated the walls with college and Buffalo Bills memorabilia (the owner loves the team). Best sandwich I've ever HAD! They make homemade bread at their shop and it was unreal. Sandwiches are huge--they are also wide so a half of a sandwich is plenty for one person, we each got our own and very easily could've split. If you like Tuna Salad theirs is awesome - not too heavy on the mayo and there was good, crunchy onion and spouts as well as tomato with nice soft white sub bread. We also had the Larido - sauerkraut, Dijon mustard and provolone with pastrami on a nice crunchy bread. We also order a couple of potato salads- it had a nice tang to it - maybe sour cream? The service was very prompt and the gal who took our order was really nice. The restaurant was clean and there was a nice amount of tables outside too.
