Stopped in for lunch and we were glad we did. We walked in and were seated right away. The dining room was busy and it had a cozy family restaurant feel. The front entrance had a glass showcase filled with desserts and yummy looking pies that you can purchase. My husband and I split a chicken sandwich with fries and it was plenty! The sandwich had a really good Italian dressing on it that made it even better! We were pleased with what we had. They had a menu full of all kinds of American style food. I can't say Grinders is anything special, but the food isn't bad. Options are limited here in Alliance, so you take what you can get. They are known for their sandwiches. Now what is pretty good are their appetizers, specifically I'm a fan of their "Spudniks"! Spudniks are baked quartered potatoes covered in cheese. I generally prefer them with half provolone & half cheddar. The portions are pretty generous too - good value. read more

Our first time here at Grinders and found the place to have several plantbased friendly selections. We had the house made veggie burger sans cheese and a large salad loaded with fruits and spiced cashews. Good choices of IPA beers and very friendly and helpful server. I'll start by saying we've been coming to this location since I worked there in high school (almost 20 years ago) and the food always tastes consistently good. Not great, but good. We get take out here occasionally (never had an issue with that) and very rarely we will eat inside the restaurant. But we try to avoid that because every time we eat there, it's extremely slow. Yesterday was the absolute slowest though. We arrived just before 6:00 on a Sunday for a birthday dinner and were seated right away as they weren't busy. We waited and waited and no one came to the table. Finally at 6:15 the host came over and said he could take our drink order. He brought the drinks back and before we could ask about ordering our food, he left. So after 6:30 my husband got fed up and went up to asked if we could get a server so we could order some food. A server came over and took our order right away. At 7:15 we asked about the food and they said it was being plated right now (they likely just started making it). At 7:40 (more than an hour after ordering it) we finally got our food. Some of it was wrong but we weren't going to send anything back at this point and it all tasted fine. Then they brought the bill without even asking if we wanted dessert. There were lots of other little things that aren't a big deal but they all just made it seem like no one knew what they were doing or even cared. My MIL went up and talked to the manager and she did take 20% off the bill and said they were busy with take out orders tonight. Which OK I understand if it's a one time thing, it happens. I worked in food service for many years. But over the course of the last decade we've had slow/bad service every single time we've eaten there (not carry-out) and it's always been at off hours, never when they're busy. And if your kitchen is that overwhelmed then you need to stop taking carry out orders for a bit or at least tell the CO customers that it'll take extra time for their food until the kitchen gets caught up. You don't make your in-house guests wait 2 hours for food (and 30 minutes to even get a server to come to the table!) while a bunch of carry out orders get filled. The table beside us came in when we did and left a little before us complaining about the same issues. I feel bad for writing this but this is a consistent problem here and that's the only reason I'm leaving this review. They clearly need better management, better training and to hire more help in the kitchen. Hopefully they will get it sorted out. read more

Grinders was always my favorite when I was in college and I am always so excited to go back to my alma mater to enjoy another meal here. You must start with the potato skins. You have different options here but I always go for the provolone ones topped with Russian dressing. Delicious! I strongly encourage you to try the Chicken salad grinder , oven baked of course! For a side, onion rings are great but I really love the cheesy hashbrown casserole. And if you're interested in dessert, they always have a huge selection of pies! The prices are super reasonable and the service is always friendly! Grinder's is one of my favorite restaurants in the whole world and definitely worth a visit! read more

Was super bummed as Grinders is typically one of my go to places when I'm in Alliance. I always get the same thing, French onion soup and the Key West Salad. When I got the soup this time, I ordered extra cheese, and basically they just threw the cheese in the bowl and it didn't even cover any sides of the bowl, making it just a clump of cheese in the soup. When I got the Key West Salad I asked the waitress if it was a small she said no, because I had ordered a large, but it was definitely the size of a small. I normally get two meals out of the salad when I take 1/2 of it home, but I barely got one portion out of the salad this time. The waitress did nothing to address the issues, even though I paid extra for the extra cheese, extra croutons and extra nuts on my salad. It was a very expensive lunch for the quality and portion size. read more

My experience was not pleasant. I have a food allergy which I always mention before I order. I ordered a sandwich recommended by the server and it was full of my allergen. No apology from the server, the manager or the owner. I became ill and went to the hospital. Frankly, I don't see the point of dining out for sandwiches. Grinder's is my favorite restaurant in Alliance, OH. That doesn't mean there are not other good restaurants in the area but for me personally, the food quality, the atmosphere, quality of service, menu choices and parking availability make it a Five Star location in Alliance. I ate here often during the 1990's, then was out of Ohio for 11 years and back in 2012. I liked Grinders in 1991 and I still like it in 2013. I have always been impressed with the consistency of good service and the repeat quality of certain menu items. My particular favorite is the Strawberry/Pecan/Chicken Salad with Key West dressing. If you are a salad person, try this selection at least once. I did and I am in a rut since that is what I order 75% of the time. One offering that is not done as well in many restaurants is the presentation of deserts. The servers bring a tray of desert choices to your table like you might expect in a much more expensive restaurant. Besides being a very tempting experience, Grinders has an excellent selection of pies and cakes to top off a pleasant meal. read more

Since I'm currently waiting for my leftover baked spaghetti to warm up, I figure this is as good a time as any to review one of my favorite restaurants in Alliance! I've been going to Grinder's in Alliance since I was a kid so this location also holds a lot of sentimental memories for me. They have fantastic potato skin appetizers, grinders (a.k.a. sub or hoagies sandwiches), salads, and baked spaghetti. My favorite appetiizer is the potato skins which are the best I've had anywhere. I recommend half cheddar, half provolone. They come with big pieces of bacon crumbles on top and are great dipped in the Russian dressing and sour cream. My favorite grinders include the Orginal Eastern, Southwestern Turkey, or Southern Stack (oven baked of course) and the Southwestern Grill salad (which comes in this awesome fried crispy edible bowl) with Hot Bacon Dressing. Oftentimes, one person in my family will order a grinder and another will order a salad and we'll split to get the best of both worlds! When you're not in the mood for a grinder or salad, the baked spaghetti is really awesome. It comes with two generous portions of garlic bread and the 'sketti is a cube of baked cooked noodles filled with yummy cheese and topped with their sweet tomato sauce. Yum. Service is usually great and they do pick-up and feature a large seating area. read more

Once we were seated it took the waitress about 10 minutes to come take our order...We ordered our drinks at the same time to avoid a longer wait... The drinks which were wayer took another 20 minutes for the drinks....I know they were busy but ....come on man... 20 minutes for a glass or water....I sure hope the food is good...more to follow.... read more

I would deff say this has been my favorite place to eat since I was a kid and minerva is deff the most amazing all the way around alliance on the other hand was so disappointing . I can't say the food is bad by all means but the server and service in alliance has me in such dismay I am actually sad to have to write this about alliance grinders above and beyond but maybe kristian their server and aiden their host can take this as a life lesson to be learned ,or not ! My experience started by placeing an order on December 27 2016 right at/after Christmas ,the time where the holidays and cheer should be still in the air . I was told 20 minutes to pick up and when I arrived it wasn't slammed Busy but the entrance area seats were all taken so I stood for maybe two mi utes then it cleared so I walked up to the counter where the pies are,and stood their for no joke 24 minutes before I got anyone to acknowledge me . I first turned around with my 4 old in my arms and said excuse me to the host named aiden ( which I asked her what her name was ) and said hi I am here to pick up an order she just glared at me And said "someone will be with u " ! Now she was the only one their at that 24 min wait besides patrons of course so I continued to wait ... then a kind elderly lady walked up beside me holding a black billfold which appeared to be their checkout billfold and so we started to engage in conversation for 5-10 minutes and by now a server ( mixed women named kristian who has waited on me and my mother and family in the past at this location) at this moment kristian made visible contact with this elderly lady knowing I was standing in front of her before she came to the counter but clearly ignored me and my 4 year olds prescance ! She continued to check the elderly lady out and they began to discuss how finances were tight and kristian began telling her that her husband has been laid off at alliance castings for the 3rd time in alliance . I just casually smiled hopeing kristian would ask me if I have been waited on and she did not . She checked that lady out and went on her rounds . I then see aiden the host behind the counter and she asked me my name went to the kitchen grabbed my food and then without smiling ask me if I had a number of some sort not sure what it is and didn't ask at this time I was tired of holding my 4 yr old and hot and hungry ! I asked her if their was a Manager around and why it took 24 minutes to get waited on she said "were really busy it's the holidays " no sorry, or "I apologize for the really long wait " and at this time Shannon the supervisor walked up and I asked her hi are u the manager ?,she said I am the supervisor on duty right Now , how May I help u So I proceeded to tell her I was confused on why aiden (who was standing in front of me beside shannon ) didn't even take the time to acknowledge my presence and shannon said wow I am so sorry I told her what kristian did and so shannon turned around walked in the kitchen said something ( which I could not here due to the distance ) to kristian and came back to me and asked me what it is that I would Like to See happen for me In this situation at this time kristian came Walking towards us and made it around the counter where the host stand was and said ; to aiden the host which was right directly behind me at this time And said very loudly for Me to hear " don't worry SHE IS JUST THAT TYPE OF PERSON !" Wow I kept My mouth shut with my 4 yr old Landon at my hip side now by the pie counter , and shannon just kept Apologizeing and asked Me if I wanted my 25 dollar gift card back since I said I should get something for This inattentive service who later proceeded talk mean about me right in front of me I mean I kinda have to laugh because ( which u can look up ) I had kristian as a server before and I was with my mother my grandmother and 16 yr and 4 yr old about three months ago and she was very kind I had no issues with her or thw service so I laugh when she rudely makes Such inaccurate accusation about me who she does not know on a personal level in any means !!!!!i would Be happy to say it was about 3:45 Tuesday in alliance so why was this even happening to me as I ordered food from my fav place to eat - clearly this has a little to much attitude and I do not like confrontation or to feel bullied by kristian smart ass mouth ! I simply just ordered food for me and my husband and little 4 yr old son . Be careful in ordering the dinners. I've had some dry over-microwaved entrees. They must sell a lot more casual fare than full out dinners. I got a chicken dish that was very dry and the pasta under it was crunchy around the edges. I ate a few bites and quit. The server only asked if I was done and removed the plate. Ate here yesterday. Had no issues with service or food. Both were great. The problem came after. While we were paying the bus girl brought out a notepad that my daughter had left out. The issue- her pen was on top of the notepad and that never came out. I went back in to look for it and the bus girl was very defensive saying that she didn't throw it away and definitely didn't take it in the back for waitresses to use?!?!? I never even mentioned those as possibilities. I was looking to see if it fell on the ground. Just very strange to me how they were acting. This wasn't a bic pen or a pen from a business. It was a bright pink pen with pug dogs on it. I just can't believe that a restaurant would steal a pen from a child. When I find myself in Canton / Alliance- I've enjoyed this establishment for many years . They are a "Top Shelf" sandwich facility , serving tasty soup and flavorful fresh "Grinders" is their art. I 'm locked into the "Eastern" but did recently have a New Phili for change. With exception to the peppers being a tad on the crispier side than what I'd preferred, it was dead on too.Although I've eaten "in" twice ,the service was prompt ,polite and efficient.The establishment has a nice atmosphere & well kept. The fresh pies look deee...licious ;but finishing a large sandwich has often found me at a loss for enjoying some. read more

Food was ok but service was abysmal. What we were initially told would be a 35-minute wait for a table turned out to be more than an hour. When my husband went to inquire, he was told we'd be "the last to be seated," whatever that meant. Indeed, everyone else who had been waiting along with us were seated long before we were, despite the fact we saw many others leave. A waitress finally noticed how long we'd been waiting and showed us to a table. That is when we were able to look further back into the dining room and saw four booths and three other tables that were empty...go figure. Once we ordered food, we waited another 45 minutes before it came. We didn't order anything complicated- salads for my husband and me; chicken fingers and spaghetti for the grandkids. Never order a sandwich from the alliance grinders and ask for it to be double oven baked. They can't even figure out how to oven bake them at all. If I wanted a cold cut combo I could go to subway.
