I was in the area and this was on my list so I had to check this place out, I recommend the Philly steak sandwich, but before you judge it was damn delicious it kinda reminds of a Wellington it's a deconstructed Philly steak sandwich, it had ribeye their special sauce mushroom mozzarella cheese. The service was quick and they're making everything from scratch, I want to try their burgers next time cuz those look pretty damn good as well, the bread was crispy and soft and the meat melts in your mouth, perfectly cooked ribeye and the sauce is to die for, it so addicting I could keep eating just the sauce. The ambiance it's nice not a fancy place which I like, more like McDonald's but food is a million times better and it's fresh, which I love no frozen meat here, if you like render meat and good sandwiches I recommend this place it's a must. Next time I come I'm gonna try their spicy mushroom cheeseburger cuz that looks awesome

Side of fries with aioli dipping sauce

I don't crave burgers often but decided to give this place a try. We shared a mushroom cheeseburger combo (drink and fries) and a philly cheesesteak sandwich. Both were amazing, packed with delicious flavor and totally sates any burger/sandwich craving. My personal favorite was the philly cheesesteak, as they take half a loaf of bread to carve out the middle and fill it to overflowing with beef, mushrooms, onions and cheese. So so good. My partner enjoyed the mushroom cheeseburger more, as it came with a lovely caramelized layer of mushrooms and cheese. We both found new favorites! Also, loved the aioli dipping sauce that came with the fries. Delish.

Fries, part of combo - Two baskets of French fries with dipping sauce are placed on a wooden table, accompanied by a bottle of mayonnaise, a can of soda, and a container of dressing.

Absolutely crazy burgers and sandwiches! Portions are massive and packed with delicious flavour! We got the Philly steak sandwich combo and spicy mushroom cheeseburger combo. The Philly steak sandwich was packed to the brim with meat, definitely not skimping out on anything. The flavours are mouthwateringly delicious and easily fills you up. The spicy mushroom cheeseburger was equally as luxuriously decadent. The mushroom was sooooo good with the meaty patty. I ate this with a knife and fork, because I sure as hell couldn't bite this. It oozes delicious buttery grease and I love every bit of it. The fries they use looks like the same as Costco (those McCain fries) and is deep fried to the same perfection. Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself near one of the few franchises around the GTA!

Back after a few years! I shared the classic cheeseburger and poutine with my brother. The cheeseburger ($11.99) has an 8oz beef patty, onion chips, and cheese (mozzarella and cheddar) topped with their special sauce. The cheeseburger was good but the patty was slightly dry. I still enjoyed the sauce, the cheesiness, and how their sauce complimented the cheeseburger without overpowering it. The bun was fluffy too. This was definitely a greasy and filling cheeseburger. The poutine ($11.49) had their "crispy coated fries" with gravy and curds of mozzarella cheese. For their fries, I am quite sure it's the same one sold at Costco - so the poutine was nothing too special but still tasted great. Because the cheeseburger is quite large (a whopping 8oz!) and the poutine was very filling, thus easily split between the both of us. A burger for one person may feel too much. We dined in and they checked both our vaccine passports. Pretty quick and nice service!

Seems like the most popular options are the philly cheesesteak sandwich and the mushroom cheeseburger, so we ordered both! The Philly cheesesteak is overflowing with meat as shown in pictures. The meat is full of flavour, and covered in melted cheese. Delicious. But let's talk about the bread- the bread is perfectly toasted, like, it's so crisp around the meat that it truly does make the meal!! The mushroom cheeseburger is also delicious, the burger patty is huge and super juicy. The mushrooms complement it. And the bread on the burger is also crisp and grilled/toasted! The only thing is that I wish the sandwich/burger had some sort of vegetable in it like lettuce/tomato, it needs something refreshing inside. But overall still a great meal!

Very good cheese burger! Juicy, but the cheese has no taste. The philly cheese steak is good too but i dont taste cheese. Friendly staff.

The main thing that brought me here was all the mouthwatering photos I saw from their sandwiches on social media. And I would say the pictures don't tell lies. I came here right before Toronto entered lockdown for the second time. I was welcomed by their friendly staff and he came up with suggestions based on my preferences. I ordered "Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich" and "Guacamole Cheeseburger". The ingredients were fresh; the meat was very tender and flavorful, with the right amount of spices; the bread was toasted at the perfect time and temperature. The staff/owner thanked me for supporting them during these hard times and I believe this is our responsibility to support local businesses which definitely are struggling at these hard times. I would definitely go back for their great quality food and hospitality.

Modified Philly Cheesesteak.

Came on the weekend for lunch and luckily it wasn't too busy because the store has very limited seating. You basically order up at the front and they bring it out for you. I didn't like how there was a tip option on the machine as it made me feel obligated to tip, when there wasn't much service involved - other than bringing out our food when it was ready (I tipped 15% anyways). They didn't provide us any water, or check up on how our food was so I regretted tipping them 15%... I had ordered the regular Philly cheesesteak sandwich but it happened twice now that they had given me the "modified" version, in which comes with chopped bell peppers. I'm not a huge fan of bell peppers so that's why I ordered the regular one that doesn't come with it. I don't understand why the lady had punched in the modified one when I didn't mention I wanted that one, and stated I just wanted the normal regular one. Since this happened twice, I feel like they automatically give you the modified sandwich as it is more expensive than the regular one. I should've paid attention when paying for it, had I known she charged me more than the regular sandwich. Despite all that, the sandwich itself is very large so come with a big appetite! Or share with another person if you're not too hungry. The breading is nice and crisp but it can get a bit chewy after a few bites. The meat itself is cooked tenderly but after eating half the sandwich, the grease got to me and I couldn't finish and had to take it home. We also ordered their fries and it came with a creamy sauce that was quite delicious! I'd definitely order that again, if I come back in the future. However, after not getting my sandwich right twice in a row, I'm probably not going to frequent here too often.

Yummmmmmmmmmmy! The mushroom cheeseburgers and the steak poutine were all on point. You can taste every bite of the beef patty and the steak on the poutine. A hidden gem I didn't expext to find. The wait was about 15 mins. Warning: very keep you very very full and I will come again.

Tonight was perhaps the fourth or fifth time I've visited Grill Gate. I like their Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. Last time I came, after ordering I told the young lady at the window I'd wait in my car, which was parked right in front of the store window. Within short order she knocked on my car window and handed me the bag with my sandwich in it. This time, I did the same thing. Parked in the same spot, and told the young woman (a different one, not nearly as polite or forthcoming) I'd wait in my car. I settled in and started reading my book. After a while, I realized I still didn't have my order. I pulled out my ticket to check on what time I had ordered: it had been nearly half an hour! I went in and said to the woman I thought she had said 15 minutes. She turned around picked up my bag and said yes, it's ready. I asked why she hadn't brought it out to me; "we're busy" she replied. "Well, thank you," I said. "You're welcome," she replied. I left the bag, said "you keep it!" and left. After leaving the parking lot, I regretted having left it that way. I drove around the block and back to the store. They saw me pull up, and another woman brought my bag to the door. I told her I didn't want it. I went to the order window and asked for a refund, which I got. I won't be darkening their doorstep again. I drove to the next block, where there's a very nice Vietnamese restaurant, and got a terrific grilled chicken, spring roll and minced shrimp, on vermicelli. Healthier, and less expensive. Plus, they gave me an extra spring roll. Goodbye Grill Gate: I've seen many restaurants come and go in that spot. If you keep staff like that snide girl, you won't last long either.

Philly cheesesteak in lettuce wrap

I went with a couple of friends from work for lunch at Grill Gate, based on a recommendation from another coworker. It's a little further away from the office than we normally go, but traffic was light so it only took ten minutes or so to get there. Upon arriving, we were happy to see it wasn't too busy, so we got a table right away. We were looking at the menu but couldn't decide what to order. I checked out some photos on Yelp and immediately, my mouth started watering from seeing all the amazing food! The burgers looked incredible, but I decided to go with their most popular item, the Philly cheesesteak. I'm trying to cut out carbs, so I asked if I could just have it without bread. They offered to put it in a lettuce wrap instead. Bonus points! When our food came out, I couldn't wait to dig in! It smelled even better than it looked! My two friends both ordered burgers. One had a mushroom cheeseburger and the other went with the eggplant cheeseburger. Both looked so good, I almost regretted my choice. But then I took my first taste and I was definitely happy with my order. The meat was seasoned very well and it was very cheesy and delicious. Yum!! We had a poutine to share, but I just had a small bite. So good!! I will definitely come back to eat here. Super friendly staff and fantastic food. What more can you ask for?

A delicious sandwich that is stuffed with perfectly cooked ribeye steak thats full of flavour. The bread itself was somethin else... I do have to say I am very particular when it comes to bread to meat ratio but I took out some meat out and it was fine! The left over meat I slapped onto some bread I had at home and made another sandwich The sandwich with a side (fries/onion rings) and a pop comes out to about $20 with tax. 10/10 recommend for you to try!

And that sign points to a true midtown institution: a warm, old-school Italian shop brimming with tempting cheeses, cured meats, and all sorts of intriguing groceries. But let's be honest--like many people, I come for the sandwiches. My husband likes to mix it up, but I'm forever loyal to the house special: shaved prosciutto and spicy salami, buffalo mozzarella, hot peppers, fig jam, sliced tomatoes, finished with balsamic and olive oil. You walk in, choose your bread (ciabatta, naturalmente), and they hand it over tutto pronto. It's a big, bold, mamma mia of a sandwich--and I absolutely love that mix of flavours. Molto bello!

Opened in Feb 2025, the sandwich shop is set to expand opening a second location near Dundas and Ossington sometime this year. They are open daily from 11am to 5pm where you can pre-order off Ambassador for pick up or opt for delivery with Ubereats. When Ariete E Toro first opened last year, I recall seeing the long lines as it became super popular. Fast forward to a year later, I finally tried Ariete E Toro recently. The storefront is on a side street off of Yonge St. where it is take out only. They do have a bench near the window/entrance of the store but usually it's utilized by people waiting for their sandwiches. In the summer though, they have a small patio in front of the shop with some tables and chairs. Menu wise, Ariete E Toro has a variety of sandwiches with ingredients that work well together. You are also able to build your own sandwich if you'd like. They also have beverages like soda and water as well. The store boasts that all their ingredients are high quality. An average price of a sandwich is around $17. I decided to pre-order 2 sandwiches for pick up. These are the two sandwiches I got: - Enzo (mortadella di bologna, pistachio pesto, stracciatella cheese, chopped pistachio, lemon and basil oil). - Rogo Rogo (prosciutto cotto, 'nduja cream, smoked provolone, caramelized onion, arugula, and brown butter vinaigrette) Entering the store to pick up my order, staff were amidst completing my sandwiches. There was already a regular there chatting with staff. Service was quick. My sandwiches were packed and I had half of each at home. The size of the sandwich was pretty big! I could only finish 3/4th of the sandwich. Both the Enzo and the Rogo Rogo were tasty but the Enzo stole the show. The moist bread with the mortadella where the pistachio pesto and hint of stracciatella cheese along with a slight crunch from the chopped pistachio made for a perfect sandwich (I do prefer the bread a bit harder and crunchier though but the texture of this one was still good). I was sharing the sandwiches with my partner and as he opened the packaging he noticed a piece of hair in the sandwich. I would have given a higher rating on Yelp but finding someone else's hair in your food is off-putting. I do hope that if I return next time (either to this location or to their new location near Ossington/Dundas) that we won't find any surprises in our food. Overall, delicious sandwiches in Midtown Toronto, however, we did find a piece of hair in our sandwiches which.... kind of makes me hesitant to return. **Update** - I wrote a review on Google where the owner personally asked me to email them to rectify the situation with the piece of hair found in my sandwich. The owner apologized and stated that he was actually the one who personally made my sandwich that day (sliced the deli meat, etc.). He also made sure that he would speak with the bread manufacturer to make sure that they were aware of the situation as it may have come from the bread as well. He also gave me a refund for one sandwich as well as a $25 credit for if I wanted to give the sandwich spot another chance (the sandwich is too good to not go back!). That is what I call great customer service - making sure that an apology was given and that customers are happy. Would happily return again for their tasty sandwiches!!

Starting with a base of roasted eggplant, slivers of quickly smoked pepper and raw celery & onion are mixed in, so the dip is creamy and crunchy. As a babaganoush lover, I thoroughly enjoyed this version! Without tahini the dip is lighter and brighter. Still their bababanoush ($9) is good with large chunks of eggplant and tons of tahini turning it creamy. It's just a touch sweet for me. For the carb conscious, the dips arrive without a pita ($1.50), so you won't be tempted. I wanted one with the eggplant and pepper... it's your regular run-of-the-mill thick pocketed pita. It's remarkable how much they can stuff in a pita. You'll need to unhinge your jaw to bite into lamb kefta in a pita ($18), the ground meat kebab juicy and each bite bringing different flavours. The bites with their zesty and slightly spicy amba sauce are my favourite and despite the abundance of onion, they're well soaked so the acidity is removed and a crunchy sweetness remains. Their sandwiches arrive solo but is enough to satisfy. The price for a side of French fries ($11) is a bit steep but it's a huge portion, enough to share amongst three. The beef shish kabob ($30) was a tad chewy but at least cooked well and perfectly seasoned and not overly salty. I recommend upgrading to their Greek salad ($4 supplement), a village style version containing large chunks of juicy ripe tomato, crunchy cucumber, briny creamy feta, and onions. Limon augments the salad with roasted red paper and capers adding a savoury smoky element that's delicious. If you're in the mood for beef, order the strip steak ($34) instead. It's less grizzly and you get a sizeable portion of meat cooked to your liking. With three pieces of fish arriving in the roasted rainbow trout ($30), this is a shareable main. It's well cooked with crispy skin and tender meat and simply topped with onions and pomegranate seeds. Having visited on three occasions, the sole visit the restaurant wasn't full was during a weekday lunch. And when it gets busy the ordering and paying process slows down as Limon creates a bottleneck by flowing both operations into one person, who I assume is the manager. Despite a number of workers, they seem to focus on serving, refilling water, and cleaning up. If you ask one to take an order or pay, the request gets redirected to the manager. What an odd way to slow down table turnover at a restaurant. Warning: the tightly packed tables create a loud ambient noise at the restaurant. It's a bit much at first, but as the meal progresses, I tuned it out. When the weather's nice and they open the front windows, it almost feels like you're sitting al fresco somewhere a bit more exotic than Midtown Toronto. A beautiful meal indeed.
