Came here while in Kensington Market for a quick bite. Inside the restaurant was very clean and cool as it was boiling outside. I ordered the drop-down and give me spicy and my girl ordered the captain jerk burger. The food was amazing and the portion was not small at all. Couldn't help but stop by when we saw a sign outside that said cheeseburger combo deal for $12.49 including fries, aioli sauce, and drink. The fries were fresh and hot out of the fryer, aioli was tasty. The burger was enjoyable and hit the spot. All the burgers are homemade. They have 2 vegetarian options as well which I'll need to try next time. There are some other interesting options including a lamb burger. We waited just a few minutes before the food was ready. Burgernator is conveniently located in Kensington market, one of my fave places to browse for new eats and unique shopping goods. Burgernator was one of my first tries at gourmet burgers and now that I've had a lot more under my belt, I don't feel like the burgers here are memorable or stand out to me. I ordered the meat burger, the bulldozer, while my friend ordered the veggie burger, ak-veggie 7. The bulldozer is a lean lamb patty burger topped with havarti cheese, fresh mango salsa, sautéed jalapeños, and chipotle aioli. The Ak-veggie 7 is a vegan patty burger topped with sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, homemade guacamole, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Unfortunately, although the toppings sounded delicious on paper, the burgers themselves tasted underwhelming. They were decent burgers but the patties weren't as juicy and the toppings did not add as much flavour as anticipated. I don't think it hurts to try Burgernator as a burger lover because as I said, the burgers are decent, but I don't think I'd be down to give it another go given how average my first experience was and how many other amazing burger places there are. read more

Maybe it's because I've been on a plane all day, maybe because I haven't eaten anything in 8hrs, maybe it's because this is the first time in 5 years that I've been in Canada...or maybe it's just REALLY F-ING GOOD!! The burgers here are good. It's a pity that there are too many delicious burger restaurants out there in Toronto that makes this store normal. If you just take a walk in Kensington market, you can have a decent lunch here. I had the captain jerk burger (pineapple and jerk sauce) and it was lazily thrown together with jerk sauce spilling off the side. I couldn't take a bite of it as a sandwich and had to deconstruct it. The patty was fine. Not as juicy as they claim and also no way it was 6oz. I think they gave me the 4oz patty. Also someone else ordered the same thing and then theirs came out the top gun was open and they carefully drizzled the jerk sauce in a nice pattern on top. By mine was thrown together by a toddler. Not goof consistency. I do like how open then place is though and the atmosphere is chill and there are plants by the windows. And the prices are good but I wouldn't come back. read more

Man these burgers are seriously out of this world! Next level delicious I tell you.....only reason I'm giving 3 starts is because the waitress was not very privy to customer service. Been here a couple of times and love the experience. Located in a very trendy district there are options as you walk down the street, but this is definitely a rear experience to try. One of my favourite burgers is the Seven - how can you go wrong with a deep fried 6oz crusted chunk of cheese on top of your burger??? And the burgurnator poutine is a pretty cool option. Not my favourite, but If you are in that type of mood, it's pretty tasty. Fries and onion rings are freshly battered and very well seasoned. But make sure you save room for dessert!!! In a city sprawling with fantastic burger restaurants, I had passed by The Burgernator in Kensington Market many times, always curious given the name and eclectic names of their signature burgers. On a mission to find the best burgers in the city, I finally gave them a try and was certainly not disappointed. I clearly ordered more than I should have (but, to be clear, ate every last bite) and went with The Baconator Burger (with two beef patties, beef bacon, a garlic aioli sauce and the fixings), the Burgernator Fries (yummy fries with beef chilli cheese, chives and sour cream) and a chocolate shake. Please don't judge me; I don't think I ate anything else for the rest of the day. Despite all the fixings, every part of the burger fit perfectly together and the meat was very well cooked. My complaint had been the quality of the bun as it was a little hard and not as fresh as I would have liked. This is a large, meaty and indulgent burger and one that could easily fill you up. The Burgernator fries were very cheesy (in a good way) and the beef chilli added a nice touch. The milkshake was authentic; you can tell real ice cream had been blended in instead of some artificial mix. Alas, if you're craving a meaty, fresh and original burger, The Burgernator should definitely be a place you should consider trying. With a variety of interest sides and shakes, you'll have many exciting choices to choose from depending on how hungry you are. Honestly an amazing burger place in Kensington. I know there are quite a few options to try in this neighbourhood but really, I think this is the best. The burger patties are made in house and I remember coming here a few years ago when you could see the patties being made in the back kitchen. They've renovated since and you can't see this anymore but the quality still remains! The options are quite varied and can suit many hungry patrons. I tried The Bazooka Jr this time, which comes with Beef Patty, Fried Egg, Sauteed Hot Peppers, Jack Cheese and Spicy Chipotle Aioli. You also get a choice of egg (fried or sunny side up). I got fried this time. I also go the Rocket Fries, which come with a Jerk Sauce and Cheese with an aioli. They are very efficient and served us within 5-8 minutes. My burger was delicious, nicely seasoned and the egg was perfect. The Rocket Fries are carbs on carbs on carbs but delicious on delicious. They use clean ingredients and you can tell they are really consistent because I've been there at least a dozen times and have never been disappointed. Although this is the only outlet for The Burgenator, they are really owning the Burger market in Kensington (imho!). read more

Stopped by here during a long layover. Was starving and got here on a Saturday afternoon. The food options here are pretty intense. Looking at the menu, for those that look for good halal burgers well this is your spot. Combinations look great. I tried the Atomic Burger and a side of Poutine. The burger itself was quite large, based on my biased nyc prices I would consider the value to be worth it coming around $9cad for the burger. Taste wise is where my opinion may differ: as good as the burger looked and smelled, it didn't quite have the meaty salty flavor one is looking for (esp if you get a burger with a legit fried cheese patty). It ultimately tasted like mush but like, good mush. The poutine was good but I'm not Canadian and my experience with this food is lacking so I wouldn't consider my opinion valuable lol. But portion wise it was a lot and definitely kept me full. Service was quick, about 10ish minutes. It was busy and apparently remains like this consistently which is cool. The decor is nice and spacious, lots of seating. They also have a bathroom and even a prayer room downstairs. That's a good and unexpected addition which I'm sure some appreciate. Would I come back here? Yes to probably try another one of the burgers. The combinations are exciting and the portions are enough to stuff your face and feel satisfied. Pretty solid burger patties at the Burgernator. Love the thinner patties, great grill crust, juicy, flavourful, and very interesting flavour combinations. We ordered the Sergeant - patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and their special sauce. This is my kind of burger - no fuss, simple, great size, and requires at least 5 napkins to sop up that drippy burger juice. My boyfriend decided to tackle their Big Bang - patty, chicken strips, veggie works, and rosemary aioli. Absolutely loved the sauce on this one. Both burgers were served on yellow buns. Personal preference but yellow buns just don't do it for me. Very one dimensional in flavour and breaks apart quite easily when the juices start running. Could be better... The poutine had great fries, but the gravy was quite salty and really overpowered the whole thing. Unfortunately the air smelled so badly of detergents I decided to make my initial for-here order to-go. Basking in the ambiance of my car was more comfortable than inside that restaurant. Definitely got a headache after being there for under 10 minutes due to the thick detergent air. Word of advice: don't use such strong detergents. We get it, you clean, but so does every other restaurant and they don't smell that strongly like detergents. I'm not sure what happened over the years but I don't love it like I used to. One of the well known burger places downtown, I came here with two of my friends and it was really humid. We all ordered The Big Bang and sat down while our order as being made. It was busy that day so it took us around ~30 minutes for our food to be ready. The people working there were really nice to bring the food to our table. We all ordered the combo, it came with fries (+ sauce) and a drink and overall, we enjoyed it very much. The egg was made sunny side up so the runny yolk made it delicious. Food: I got the crispy chicken burger and added cheese, which i had to pay 1.50 extra for. By the time it came there was no cheese which was super annoying. The line was on going and they were slammed so I couldnt be bothered to go and complain. The chicken itself was juicy and cooked perfectly but i wish it has more flavor. It was kind of plain other then the garlic aioli on top. The french fries were made in house perfectly. You get to choose a dip for it which we didnt they give you this tiny serving of garlic aioli for it which ia enough for maybe 5 fries. Considering the price you pay you'd think they would give you more. Atmosphere: The lines were long and you hve to wait quite a bit for your food. I do think the wait time for fresh food was worth it as its a reasonable amount if time. The girl on cash was super friendly and helpful. They have someone on cash and a girl handing the food out when ready. But noone cleaning up. The table with the condiments was dirty and full of fries. There was absolutely no seating. People would stick around for hrs after their meal was finished. Big families saving seats and hving kids running around blocking doors and creating havoc. I was a bit annoyed with the chaos and mess. Verdict: For the price and what you get and hve to put up with I dont think Ill be back. I tried the atomic burger which is a 6oz beef patty with deep fried herb-crusted cheese (white cheese, probably mozzarella?). In hind sight, I would've been perfectly happy with the classic sergeant burger, I was not ready for all that cheesy and meaty goodness. The beef patty was very juicy, too bad a lot of the juice ended up on my tray rather than staying in the burger. I didn't quite taste the sun-dried tomato in the aioli on my burger. On the other hand, I tasted every bit of the amazing garlic aioli. It's the perfect burger topper and fries companion! They only give a tiny dollop with the fries, but a little really goes a long way. I would come back just for the aioli. This is a very casual joint inside Kensington, the meats are halal and they also offer vegetarian options. Visited The Burgenator few years ago, and recently went back for a casual dinner with a colleague. I got a fully loaded, with a side of fries. The quality of the burger is spot on. The patty is fresh, ridiculously topped, and super juicy. Brownie points since The Burgenator is Halal, this was a true life saver in our case as my colleague couldn't have enjoyed the meat otherwise. Overall the price is also relatively good. Not as cheap as your average fast food chain, but also not as pricey as a pub. In short, fair and reasonable. Everything else? So and so . . . The taste and colour of the fries suggests that the deep frier oil was in desperate need for a change. Maybe bad luck? The place itself needs a bit of an upgrade. The air is comparable to that of a Korean BBQ restaurant, slightly foggy, makes you wish you had left that new cardigan in the car instead of brining it with you at the restaurant. I did have to leave my clothes on the balcony that night after dinner. . . Tables need a bit of loving care, more frequent cleaning would be pleasant! I would be back for more if in the area.
