Firehouse Subs - Medium Engineer sub

    Firehouse Subs

    (21 reviews)

I've had Firehouse Subs before when it was catered for work events, and they always tasted great -…read moreespecially with that delicious, grainy mustard served on the side. So we saw this location on our way home and figured we'd stop by for a try. We ordered the Firehouse Hero and the Brisket and Cheddar sandwich. I was really happy with both sandwiches. There was a lot stuffed in there and the sauces are fantastic. I really liked the smoked, honey ham and the salty pastrami. The Firehouse Hero was a bit of a basic sandwich, but it tasted great and that's a pretty decent measure of the rest of their menu. Their brisket was amazing with their sweet and smokey bbq sauce. The full size sandwich was perfect for my bf whereas I only finished about half. I saved the rest for the next day and even as cold left overs, it tasted great. The bread didn't get too soggy either. Sadly, they didn't give us extra of the grainy firehouse mustard. He gave us 2 packs of a different brand I didn't recognize. It tasted fine but I miss the grainy mustard they use to serve on the side. Service was pretty quick. They've got a few small tables set up here but it looks like people mostly grab and go. I liked the firehouse decor and they have some great fundraisers going on to support fire fighters too. I really liked seeing all that. Oh bonus for hot sauce lovers: They did have a HUGE selection of hot sauces you can pick up. And there's a hot sauce station where you can pour some hot sauces to go and give them a try. They've got them labelled so you know which ones are more mild and which ones are hotter. I really liked their Captain Sorensen's hot sauce (which looks like a bbq sauce). It was labeled as mildest and did have a very light spice to it. It was mostly sweet. I loved the Fat Cat bourbon hot sauce which is another sweet one using peaches and bourbon. Those both went great with the sandwiches. Next time I might pick up a bottle.

I just had a very horrible experience here And…read moreI am debating on boycotting all Firehouse Sub locations because of this. Even though the location at the Promenade Mall exceeds this horrible location by 100 times. I came here to this location in York Mills Rd expecting a decent sub and some decent service. That's not expecting much But On this occasion, I entered and the one Indian lady about 20 something years old immediately put me off. She took my order rather curtly and asked my name forcefully. I mean I am the only customer in there. I waited my 4-5 minutes paying no mind. Then She proceeded to just plop my sandwich on the counter and literally screamed my name and then walked to the back. I'm sorry but this order is for take out I said can I have a bag. She saids she doesn't have big bags with handles. This is not my first rodeo here and she plops a small sandwich bag on the counter with absolutely no customer service like bagging it for me and then walks off again. That's when I see a uber order with a said bag with handle sitting there I mean, I like their sandwiches but service and a remotely polite service is important too. I definitely strongly recommend to stay away from this location. And I am debating on going to any location again as this represents not only their name and location but the franchise reputation as a whole.

Ariete E Toro - Piece of hair found in our sandwich :S

Opened in Feb 2025, the sandwich shop is set to expand opening a second location near Dundas and Ossington sometime this year. They are open daily from 11am to 5pm where you can pre-order off Ambassador for pick up or opt for delivery with Ubereats. When Ariete E Toro first opened last year, I recall seeing the long lines as it became super popular. Fast forward to a year later, I finally tried Ariete E Toro recently. The storefront is on a side street off of Yonge St. where it is take out only. They do have a bench near the window/entrance of the store but usually it's utilized by people waiting for their sandwiches. In the summer though, they have a small patio in front of the shop with some tables and chairs. Menu wise, Ariete E Toro has a variety of sandwiches with ingredients that work well together. You are also able to build your own sandwich if you'd like. They also have beverages like soda and water as well. The store boasts that all their ingredients are high quality. An average price of a sandwich is around $17. I decided to pre-order 2 sandwiches for pick up. These are the two sandwiches I got: - Enzo (mortadella di bologna, pistachio pesto, stracciatella cheese, chopped pistachio, lemon and basil oil). - Rogo Rogo (prosciutto cotto, 'nduja cream, smoked provolone, caramelized onion, arugula, and brown butter vinaigrette) Entering the store to pick up my order, staff were amidst completing my sandwiches. There was already a regular there chatting with staff. Service was quick. My sandwiches were packed and I had half of each at home. The size of the sandwich was pretty big! I could only finish 3/4th of the sandwich. Both the Enzo and the Rogo Rogo were tasty but the Enzo stole the show. The moist bread with the mortadella where the pistachio pesto and hint of stracciatella cheese along with a slight crunch from the chopped pistachio made for a perfect sandwich (I do prefer the bread a bit harder and crunchier though but the texture of this one was still good). I was sharing the sandwiches with my partner and as he opened the packaging he noticed a piece of hair in the sandwich. I would have given a higher rating on Yelp but finding someone else's hair in your food is off-putting. I do hope that if I return next time (either to this location or to their new location near Ossington/Dundas) that we won't find any surprises in our food. Overall, delicious sandwiches in Midtown Toronto, however, we did find a piece of hair in our sandwiches which.... kind of makes me hesitant to return. **Update** - I wrote a review on Google where the owner personally asked me to email them to rectify the situation with the piece of hair found in my sandwich. The owner apologized and stated that he was actually the one who personally made my sandwich that day (sliced the deli meat, etc.). He also made sure that he would speak with the bread manufacturer to make sure that they were aware of the situation as it may have come from the bread as well. He also gave me a refund for one sandwich as well as a $25 credit for if I wanted to give the sandwich spot another chance (the sandwich is too good to not go back!). That is what I call great customer service - making sure that an apology was given and that customers are happy. Would happily return again for their tasty sandwiches!!

Food: I got the Enzo - I'm a big fan of mortadella and pistachio pesto, and it's one of their OGs. I wasn't as big a fan of the sotto bosco, but overall the quality and portion sizes are solid. Presentation: Each sandwich comes in a snazzy box perfect for keeping the sandwich intact Space: Clean shop, more of a take out spot, with just one bench by the windows for seating Service: Quick and efficient - no line when I went right at opening on a Sunday. I came here hoping to satisfy my craving for a proper Italian mortadella sandwich after Eataly left me underwhelmed. Thankfully, this one hit the spot.
