Grill city is awesome! They have plethora of choices when it come to their menu. I particularly like their barbecue skewers. It's flavorful and pretty decent size. Their side dishes are good too such as kare-kare, sinigang, adobo etc. They also have fried dishes such as fish, okoy, lumpia, chicharon and desserts like bananacue and turon. They get pretty busy on the weekends so be aware. The service is pretty decent as well. I go here whenever I crave authentic Pinoy foods and don't want to cook. Price is not too bad. read more

I'll admit, there are better places to go for Filipino food, but it gets a star for the convenience. As one Filipino living in her household, it's hard to cook Filipino food for one. Likewise, there may be some families who don't have time to cook specific Filipino specialties like kare kare (peanut butter meat stew), pancit palabok (noodle specialty with a more savory sauce), caldereta (very rich meat stew), and puso ang sanging (sauteed shredded banana hearts). Some of these dishes have a lot of prep work and take time to cook, so if you're suddenly in the mood for these dishes Grill City will have you covered. As a Filipino, you can probably make it better, but this gets the job done. And for non-Filipinos, this is a good way to get introduced to Filipino food at a low cost, since they have combo plates that come with rice and a choice of 2 options. Not to mention their BBQ is pretty decent - making Filipino BBQ takes time and effort, and it's really only worth making a large quantity of it. Grill City's BBQ sticks can satisfy any sudden cravings you may have. Like all things Filipino, make sure to eat it with vinegar! It gets another star for halo halo smoothies - this is the main reason I come here. The halo halo smoothies come in ube, pandan, and mango - on rare occasions they will have melon, it's listed as one of their flavors but for some reason they do not make it. The smoothie is topped with the same toppings you would see in halo halo; sweet red beans, jello, coconut string, etc. My favorite flavor is pandan, which is like the Filipino mint. Personally, I enjoy the halo halo smoothies more than the original counterparts that used shaved ice and condensed milk - this just has more flavor and is easier to eat, since sometimes the shaved ice in halo halo is too hard and crunch to enjoy. It also gets another star for their weekend "Isawan" where they sell Filipino street snacks outside of the store - these are cash only. They mimic the street food stands you'll see in the Philippines. I've been to the Seafood Cities in SoCal and the one in Seattle, and this is the only one where I've seen the food stands on the weekends. I'd recommend coming early so you can see their offerings, as things tend to run out around 4-5 pm. There's another store called Goldilocks that also has a street food stand, so many choices. Pretty neat since they sell kikiam, fish balls, kwek kewk (fried orange quail eggs) pork ears, and intestines on a stick - so you can be adventurous and try really authentic Filipino food. They also sell less adeventurous foods like arroz caldo (chicken rice porridge) and vegetable lumpia - highly recommend the lumpia, as it's large, savory, and filling. Aside from the arroz caldo, make sure to get your side of vinegar to dip them in! Be sure to check out some of the Filipino drinks they have as well, like our version of boba known as sagot gulaman. Decent, not the best... but stars for convenience, the halo halo smoothie, and their street food weekends. ordered cebu lechon online and pick up in Milpitas branch @11:40am and got it 15mins. after. We requested to have the lechon sliced but the cashier said no coz it was not in the order instructions which I thought it was already sliced and the cashier said their food would be contaminated fshort the cashier would not inform the butcher which I said we're gonna eat the lechon here and when I was asking for the lechon sauce the 2nd cashier gave me 3 small containers but when I was asking for more she said wala na po , buy 1 na lang in the store. Want to order a party tray? Good luck! If you preorder for catering, you are taking a chance. They will fulfill your order, but if customers come between the time they prepare your food and your pick up time, they will give your food away. My family has preordered trays multiple times, and each time there is something wrong. They either start cooking when you get there if they gave your food away, or if you don't pick up on the dot, then they'll give your food away and tell you they ran out of food. Yesterday (christmas day) was the last straw for me. They made me wait 30 min for my preordered and prepaid party trays. The cashier and other employees were incredibly rude. They took my receipt and each time I came to the counter to check on my order, they asked for the name again and again. Ordered palabok online for delivery and turon and I was disappointed. Not only it took 1 1/2 hours, but the palabok is a total fail. Their palabok has no taste and fry. I feel like they just put an orange sauce or even just a food coloring to the noodles just to make it look like palabok. Also, there's no flavor or even any toppings. Everytime that my mom go there, she buy stuff thay needs sauce and they never put sauce. if she buys tokwat baboy, chicharonbulaklak, etc. they never put sauce on the side, so I end up mad about it because it will be too much to drive back just to ask for the sauce. The Tocino was so dry and had a perfume smell to it. I'm pretty sure the tocino I was served was from days ago. I called in the morning to order a BBQ party pack and they said I need to order in person. I came in person to order a 30pc bbq party pack which they packaged without problem. Then at the register, they would not charge as a party pack, only as individual pieces. They said I needed to order on the phone before. I told them I called to preorder in the morning, and the cashier responded that they don't take orders over the phone. They wouldn't honor their own price listed on the menu because you have to preorder by phone, and they won't accept preorders over the phone. Grill City is one of the many Filipino restaurants that have a symbiotic relationship with Sea Food City supermarket. If I remember correctly I've seen one in all the Sea Food City Supermarkets that I've been too. Grill City is known for its BBQ and I generally stick to BBQ from Grill City but for some reason this time I decided to be adventurous and get a two item combo from the turo-turo side of the house. I checked if they had Chicken Adobo, Beef Caldereta, Beef Bistek, Beef Mechado and got a No for all. Finally I checked if they had kare kare and on hearing Yes, decided to go with that. For the second item I got some white looking dish which was supposed to be Vegetarian (but I have my doubts). I think it was about $8 and change for the 2-item combo. The good news is that the food was nicely packed. The bad news is that it was just bad. The kare-kare had a weird uncooked taste of peanuts. It was just packed with thick strips of chewy tripe which did not seem to have been cleaned properly. The other dish that I got was too intense for my palate but I won't hold that against them. The rice was also cheap dry overcooked type. Overall this was just plain bad. On the weekends they lay out tables with Filipino street food (fish balls, lumpia, quail eggs, pig ears, pig intestines etc.). Unfortunately at around 7 pm, I'm greeted by empty containers so come early if you are interested in this. Price wise it's pretty cheap and comparable to Phil House in the Island Pacific Supermarket across the road. If I compare the food between the two, Phil House would definitely be the better choice by a wide margin. I guess henceforth I'm going to have to stick to BBQ from Grill City which is pretty decent, but this time my rating is for the steam table side of the house which is just not good. read more

The chicken bbq is by far my favorite! The meat was very tender and I was able to get 5 for $14.99. The ginisang upo was also really good. The pork adobo was just ok. However I do recommend getting pork over chicken because the chicken one has a lot of bones. Horrible horrible horrible service! Find another option if you want to order catered food from here! I went in person to place an order a day before my event, they do no take phone orders even if you remit payment, so you have to go in person (fine, I'm ok with that). However, on the day of my event I called them about two hours before my pick up time to see if I could change my pick up time to 1 hour later. Without even properly putting me on hold, they left me hanging on the phone for over 14 minutes before someone HUNG UP. I called back and told them what had happened and the associate replied "Ok and what do you need". So I told them again and she said "I will check" and hung up without responding. 3rd time calling back I asked if it was possible she said yes she told the kitchen. My husband gets there at the exact pick up time and they make him wait another 20 minutes to get the order because it "wasn't ready". BS!! read more

For a while, the Seafood City at Landess has been without an eatery to call their own, which can seem a bit strange considering most locations do indeed have one. Of course, it might not be necessary considering it's at the center of what's the only Pinoy-based mall and plaza in North America surrounded by such places as Max's of Manila, Goldilocks, and Chow King. Dubbed Grill City, the specialties at this street food a la carte eatery are grilled right in front of patrons, with their signature menu items being their grilled pork and chicken skewers. Both of which are actually quite scrumptious, having the sweet pinoy flavor Filipinos know and love. I found the chicken to be the slightly more desirable one. For both, it was pretty much like eating tocino on a stick. Setting itself apart from Goldilocks, which is literally right across the hall, is the fact that they have ready-to-eat fish items such as grilled pompano and tilapia. Both of which are filled to the brim with basic vegetables for added flavor to both fish--which most chefs know lack flavor. Also making this place unique is the fact that they give you two scoops of rice. So for $8, you get a regular entrée item, two scoops of rice, and even a soup which is usually sinigang. They also have traditional Filipino favorite dishes that rotate daily. The dinuguan isn't bad, but the kare kare is a tad bland in my opinion. I'll be trying their bopis next, as it's a favorite of mine since it's a specialty of a province that my family isn't from. As far as tips go, I work in this plaza so I usually go when there's no line, but the line can pick up rather quickly because sometimes they just don't have enough staff. This is more of a place to just grab your food and go, as they'll be giving everything to you in a Styrofoam to-go box anyway. Also, the specialty drinks are nothing special, as you can just get something at Bubble Street next door anyway. All in all, you'll get full when you come here. My parents love this place! I didn't know this place existed until they brought home some delicious BBQ sticks and other street food from here. The isaw was okay.... (Go to Dollar Hits in LA for the real deal!) I liked the pork BBQ sticks though. The marinade is delicious and it's always so tender and good with white rice! We also come here for their lechon liempo. We ordered it for Thanksgiving and it was a hit with our family as well! Make sure to plan ahead when you use their catering services! The reviews are right in that slow service and price is probably what is keeping the great-tasting food of this food court from touching a 4. If's slightly more expensive than what you would want for a food court and paper utensils. However, the food is delicious. Stick to the kebabs and nothing else. The other seafood and meat items are good but the kebabs are that much better. The naked salad that comes with a value entree is not very naked. It comes with hot, sugary tasting that is delicious, making this salad not so healthy any more. The chicken and pork kabobs are slathered in so much glaze. It's like eating meat candy. I really enjoyed my meal at GRILL CITY! Just took a couple of days off work bc I caught a cold and what not better way to soothe my body by a great bowl of soup. Originally, I was craving some Arroz Caldo but neither they or Chow King served it. I settled with the next best thing when you're sick, Sinagang. If you order the combo you can get one stick of chicken/pork BBQ and either a side or soup. Both sinagang and pork bbq were pretty good. Not the best ive had, but the best ive had in San Jose. Born and raised in San Francisco i grew up with the pleasure of having the Philippines Mecca, outside of the Philippines, Daly City in my backyard. There you have the best Filipino BBQ around! 3 stars for now. They just opened a week ago but the chaotic, unorganized atmosphere coupled with a wait in line was enough to make someone scream, "Get it together, people!" Yet, the BBQ brings you back. Once the staff learns how to be more expedient with customers and they organize stations (honestly, there are too few people doing too many things), it will probably improve. Arrive early and check back often as the BBQ sticks (pork and chicken) go by very quickly. If you don't get your BBQ sticks you usually have a lot of grilled items to choose from: - pork liempo - grilled squid - grilled (and stuffed) fish (tilapia, bangus, and one more kind) The last two aforementioned grilled items were not seen sharing the same grill with the other BBQ sticks (although the liempo was). I think they use another grill in the store for the fish. Drinks include assorted fruit smoothies and juices. NO refillable soda (OR WATER) stations available. What a terrible place to be at least when I was there 9/25 about 1:30pm. First, there was no trays available and had to tell her that, so she cleaned one and had to ask one more cs there's two of us dining and finally got the trays still unclean, oh well. Then some gulaman drinks spilled on the floor in front off the cashier before we got there and no one bothered to clean it all that time I was there and two customers almost slipped. Also my table was messy so I went to the restroom to pick up some towels to wipe it clean. I had tokwa't baboy cut in large chunks like adobo no way and with hardly any onions, chilis or vinegar or lemon so it tasted bland and hard. The chicken adobo had no sauce, she said no more sauce??? and chicken was dried and hard like it looked old or leftover that's been sitting there for awhile. I was done before I even started my meal so I looked for a trash bin to dispose the food, and there's no basura which is strange for a restaurant open for business. To the Manager of Grill City or to the one who's concerned, please be advised that your restaurant is not fit for dining at the time I was there. Or could it be that I was in the wrong place and the wrong time like late in the afternoon when food is no good like tira tira and COLD (warming table should have hot water to keep the food hot per OSHA code), so don't sell them at all if they are no good. Today after work, me and my husband came here to have dinner at Grill City. So that when we get home we can just relax & again prepare for another day's work tomorrow. We ordered what they call value meals & also a palabok for "baon" going back to work. But when we got home and opened the palabok in a container... whoa! The palabok was spoiled already!!! I should have trusted my husband when he said it looks like old & not freshly cooked... Did they just sold us a leftover from yesterday?????
