OBX Affordable Automotive Repair was one of the top shops. I read the reviews and told my husband that we should drive over. I have to say that Jeff is an impressive mechanic! This is on a Thursday. Every shop I called said maybe Saturday or next week. I was panicking! I called Jessie and he kindly agreed to come out after his last job. He arrived around 8 p.m. I had already had my friends take me to get the necessary part. So I thought we were set. Upon removing my tire Jessie found that my wheel bearing hub was bad. He took the time to discuss with me what was wrong and that he recommended that it be replaced. He then agreed to keep working on removing the wheel hub while we ran to Auto Zone, which thankfully had the part in stock and is open late. He then replaced the part and had completed the other repair. It was then about 9:30. Then, despite the late hour and that he looked exhausted he took the time to talk to me about when I got home to make sure I checked the other tires for similar issues. That these things have a way of happening together. He was beyond professional and courteous. I then get the bill and am incredibly happy!! In my area shops usually charge $130 an hour. Jessie is incredibly reasonable. I got fantastic service by a qualified mechanic for a great rate! Plus, he saved the day and I was able to get home for work. I am beyond pleased! I'd used this business before, and knew the owner had retired - Now turning it over to this younger group. Same vibe, same super reasonable cost, excellent customer interface. I also asked about a brake job on my Jeep, to which Amanda said, of course, they were just finishing one up now. Brilliantly, she offered they don't automatically replace the rotors -which is a wonderful high profit job for the usual shops, but often not necessary. That was beyond refreshing. This business is a keeper. It's a low overhead shop, so no glitzy outer building and signage, or waiting room (they do have a small spot, complete with a happy dog.) Don't be put off by the exterior - they are a rare bargain. 5 stars easily.

I took the vehicle back after a few weeks and insisted that the air conditioner was leaking. This time they found the leak and fixed it, but I did not get any credit towards repair from the previous bad diagnosis. I took the vehicle back recently for the still-leaking coolant system, but was told that it was not leaking initially (it has been leaking continuously) and that I would have to start over with another $140 pressure test to find the leak.
