If you need service, go anywhere but GRIFFITH FORD.
GRIFFITH is expecting a consumer to take responsibility for their service advisor's incompetence...and pay an extra $1,000 for unnecessary labor.
I took my 2018 F-150 to Griffith Ford on Thursday, December 14th for repairs on the transmission and sunroof. Having an extended warranty, I knew that I would be responsible for the $100 deductible, but they figured out how to turn that $100 deductible into a $2,000+ bill!
I checked the truck in with Eric McDuffie. I provided all the information for my extended warranty at the time I dropped off the vehicle, including contact information so Griffith could contact them with any questions regarding their claims process.
The afternoon of Friday, December 15th, Eric called me requesting that I authorize 5 hours of labor at $195/hour for transmission diagnostics. When I questioned why this was necessary, he assured me that "he's been doing this for 16 years, and he knows the warranty company will deny the claim without a cause of failure".
Rather than immediately approve the additional expense, I told him to wait until the following week to start work. He again tried to pressure me into approving the 5 hours of labor immediately, referencing his 16+ years of experience as a service advisor, and assuring me that the warranty company would immediately deny the claim without a full diagnostic and cause of failure. HE REFUSED TO CONTACT THE WARRANTY COMPANY TO VERIFY THAT THIS WAS REQUIRED.
The following week, I reluctantly approved the 5 hours of labor after receiving assurances that the labor would be covered by the warranty company...and AGAIN being told that this was a necessary step in the claim process if I wanted to get the truck repaired. In other words...."authorize the labor if you want us to file the claim."
Flash forward a couple of weeks, and lo and behold, THE DIAGNOSTIC WAS NOT REQUIRED! The 10-speed Ford transmissions fail so often that the warranty companies can identify a cause of failure with only a picture of the pan and transmission fluid.
The warranty company approved a transmission rebuild and the labor hours required for the rebuild.
Because the diagnosis WAS NOT REQUIRED, the warranty company refused to cover the extra 5 hours of labor. Makes sense, considering Griffith would be required to remove and teardown the transmission, reinstall it and refill the transmission fluid as part of the rebuild process, and the warranty company doesn't want to pay for labor and shop supplies twice on every repair.
When I confronted Eric, he was ZERO help and refused to even discuss discounting the labor to compensate for HIS mistake, and again referenced his "16 years of experience" as he tried to tell me that he's NEVER seen a warranty company NOT require a diagnosis, while reminding me the amount that the extended warranty covered, the total cost of repairs, and what I would be responsible for.
OH....and be sure to compare the cost of the parts on your bill to dealer MSRP. Griffith added around $400 to the repair bill by upcharging me 20% or more on parts. At least Eric was nice enough to agree to reduce that part of the bill...which still results in a hefty profit for the dealership.
As of this writing, Eric is no longer with the dealership. I found out only after calling the dealership when he stopped responding to texts for an update on repairs.
If I could leave a negative 5-star review I would do so. Based on my experience with the service department, I won't be returning to Griffith and encourage you to go anywhere but here. There are plenty of dealerships in the area, and the bar to do better than Griffith is incredibly low. read more
