Do not take your car here. I made an appointment for 9:00am for a simple oil change. I showed up right on time and the guy was very rude. He said his oil change guy doesn't show up until later and they can't get to my car until 11:00am and it should be ready around 12:00pm. I said no way. I have an appointment at 9:00am. Why will it take to 12:00. He said that's just how it works. I said then what was the point in making an appointment? You let me make the appointment knowing the oil change guy won't even be here and it won't be ready for three hours? Then why make an appointment? He said so I could get in line. I said no, the appointment is for 9:00. You're not making any sense. I told him I can't do that and I'm going to have to leave. He was very rude and said, do whatever you want! Do not go here. The company name tells you all you need to know, "RELIABLE AUTO". My son was in San Marcos this past weekend. After watching a movie last Friday night with his GF, they returned to his Yukon, only to find it wouldn't start. A bit out of sorts, he called me in my North Texas home, over two hundred miles away. The novice auto mechanic in me immediately suspected the issue may rest with the Yukon's alternator or possibly bad spark plugs, because a new battery was just put in four months ago. Also, I noticed the interior lights were operational during our Facetime call. I conference called him into my call to our family's auto club Premier + representative; had my son explain his experience; then listened to our available options for that late Friday evening. I decided the best course of action at that time, since the location was in proximity to the college campus and providing a battery jump was the only action a tow truck driver would be able to perform, was leave the Yukon parked overnight and return first thing the following morning. First thing I did early Saturday morning was to locate my auto club's authorized auto repair shop in San Marcos. Unfortunately, their only authorized vendor was closed for the weekend. That's when I turned to my phone's Yelp app to search for other auto repair shops in the area that were open for business AND rated with at least four stars. RELIABLE AUTOMOTIVE (#4012) was the #1 on the pulled up search. Again, I set up a three way conference call. We spoke with our guardian angel, Ms. Anna Harper, a quarter past 10 am. After listening to my son explain the Yukon's non-starting issue, Anna said she had a technician readily available to run a diagnostic; told us what that would cost; could replace an alternator that same day (if that was indeed the problem) if we get the Yukon to them asap. She told us they closed at 1pm. The auto club arranged for one of their contracted towers to bring my son and his Yukon to RELIABLE'S shop at nearby 2409 Hunter Road. Both arrived about 30 minutes before the 1pm closing. Anna contacted me again @ 12:55 pm to share the good news from her tech, that the Yukon started inside the bay; felt the alternator wasn't the root cause; that diagnostics pointed instead to a bad starter relay. Unfortunately, that part needed to be ordered. Anna offered to stay after closing to source one from her available parts vendors. Not wanting to rush the appropriate time to resolve the Yukon's issue, my son and I decided to let Anna keep Yukon locked up in their shop until Monday, leaving her needed time to order a new starter relay. Anna called me Monday morning to confirm her technician, James, replaced the starter relay which resolved the Yukon's issue. Anna and her technician, James, provided professional white glove five-star worthy transparent service to an out of town customer. Both came through HUGE for my son. This afternoon (Tuesday), Anna called me just to see how my son's return trip yesterday went with his Yukon. Thankfully, I said it was uneventful. Her follow up call was VERY MUCH appreciated and is why THIS particular auto repair shop's earned any of my son's future return business, should that need in San Marcos ever present itself. read more

Call in to check about getting a oil change and routing the tires and was told they were open till 1 pm. I showed up at 5 till noon. No cars around, bays were completely quiet. Guy got up from the chairs for waiting customers and told me they're turning me away. Said it'd take an hour and a half for an oil change and tire rotation. If you're working in a professional shop and can't do that in less then 45 minutes you have no business being a mechanic. They're new so I thought I'd give them a chance. Drove across town and had a chain shop do it and was back on the road by 12:45. Will never trust my vehicles to any shop that shares the "Reliable" name. read more

Stay clear away from reliable automotive-over promise under deliver! We were told car would be ready same day ...it took 3 days. Chad is not versed in dealing with extended warranty and insurance. The amount Chad quoted and agreed on was not what was collected at check out. I was quoted by him under $100 with warranty and they charged me $450 at check out. This is for replacing a parking switch button, labor and crazy diagnostic fee of $150. My husband could have replaced it his self and I ordered the part on amazon for $30. We choose them because of time he promised and amounts he provided. They are a scam and will overcharge do not use!!! They were on the list of reliable trusted auto shops on the Assurant Warranty. Every time I have come here or called the business I have had EXCELLENT service. When was the last time that you could contact an automotive repair place to do a great job at a reasonable price. I've had everything from water pumps, wheel problems, steering issues, brake repairs. Almost every time, I call someone who I think is either close or a specialist and they recommend Reliable Automotive! Wow, when the competitors move work over to them that they can't / won't do - you know it's a good spot. In fact, next time you need your car worked on - DON'T contact them. After having my truck over four weeks, it was returned to me filthy. I turned it over with a full tank of gas, and it was on empty when I picked it up. The radio station had been changed, so someone drove it long enough to want to change the station. I can drive over 400 miles on a tank of gas, so someone "test drove" my truck for at least 400 miles. It's weird to write a review for service that didn't get done, but I brought my 2013 Volt in here because the Check Engine light was on. They managed to look at it within fifteen minutes of me taking it in, and on seeing that it was something that was beyond their capability to repair, told me to go to a dealership, which dealership to go to (Chuck Nash), and told me that I wouldn't be charged for the diagnostic fee. They were also super-courteous. So yes, if you have an electric car, it's probably beyond their capability, but they're nevertheless super friendly and helpful and I'd recommend them for anything that they can manage. read more

I scheduled service And dropped my vehicle off on friday march 10, 2023. After my vehicle was in the shop for 5 days. After which I decided to call and get an update. Christian was all nonchalant and mentioned that they weren't able to figure out my suspension issue, and a "special tool was required for the electrical, tail light, diagnostic. When I asked questions the nervous laugh explained EVERYTHING . PURE BULLSHYTERY. Said special tool is a digital multi meter, not at all special for ANY electrically certified tech. Took me 20 minutes to run diagnostics when I got home. The problem is EASY, $ management, and y'all don't KNOW how to PROPERLY run service. And your tech curbed my shyt, scratched my wheel. I took my Mazda 6 to this place at San Marcos on August 26, 2023 for a check-up. The mechanic literally made up a list that is "urgent" and it will cost at least $1,000 to repair. Their sales person A. Welty stated that the serpentine belt was frayed, and the belt tensioner seized. I somehow knew that Reliable Automotive just wanted to take advantage the lack of my experience, because I was a 23 years old college student who can be easily exploited. I declined the service and rather called https://www.repairsmith.com/. They came on Sunday to my house and run the diagnostics in front of me. The mechanic said serpentine belt and belt tensioner were in a very good condition as my car overall . I decided to report Reliable Automotive for scamming to Better Business Bureau https://www.bbb.org/us/tx, and also to Federal trade Commision. https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/. What a great experience! I was thinking about making a vehicle purchase from a private seller in San Marcos and the great reviews steered me here for an evaluation. I had called a couple of days ahead and was told I didn't need an appointment, but earlier was probably better if I needed to be seen on a Saturday since they close at 1:00. Well, I got there at 10:00 on a Saturday knowing I might be too late but they graciously took care of me and got my evaluation done in about 2 hours! Super thorough, great price, excellent service! My van's A/C system was worked on by a retired mechnic that did not have all the tools needed to do the complete repair, so I took it to reliable automotive to have the repairs completed. Turns out, the "o" rings on the ends of the hose were the wrong size which caused a leak. You could SEE the A/C oil leaking out of the connection. I explained to them the retired mechanic had change the compressor for me, put on the new hoses, put on the new Expansion valve, then removed it because it was leaking. I suspect it had the wrong o rings as well. He put the old expansion valve back on, charged me minimually because he couldn't complete the work and told me to go to a shop that could evacuate the refrigerant system, fix the leak, and put on a new expansion valve. The only thing their A/C tech did was change out the o rings and recharge the system, with the freon that was already in the van. They wanted to charge me over $400 to evacuate the system, replace the o rings and recharge the system. They did not do ANY diagnostic's on the system when I first took it to them. When I picked it up, there was a check engine light on that had not been there before. A simple check with a code reader said it was a high pressure related to the A/C system and the tech just turned the check engine light off. I took the van, drove it for 20 minutes and the A/C was cooling, minimually. I called their office3 and told them I would bring it back the next day as I did not think it was right. I checked it that night and found it was only blowing out air at 66 degrees from the vents. I returned the van on Wednesday, and they had not done any thing to it by Saturday. I called back Monday morning and Andrew told me he would have the tech look at it again. When he called me back 4 hours later Andrew told me it would have to have the COMPLETE A/C system replaced at an estimated cost of $2500. It was at this time he told me the system had high pressure and would require a new compressor, condenser, accumulator, and expansion valve. RUN from this business, do not walk. read more

Love this place! I've come here twice now for service on my 2011 Dodge Charger R/T. First time was for a caliper bolt that fell out of my front passenger side wheel and the second time was for a Brake Master Cylinder & Power Brake Booster replacement. These guys did a superb job and Service Advisor Jose Romero did a great job walking me through the process. My only complaint would be they make up they put on the OEM parts I had them order, but I understand they have to make their money. Other then that, no complaints! Took my car in for a CEL. After running the diagnostic, the tech said I needed a new EVAP system, which set me back $1200. After having the new parts installed, the CEL never went away and when I would bring the car back, they would tell me my gas cap was loose or something that was completely untrue. After bringing the car back 4 separate times, I ultimately decided to take the car to my dealer where they identified the problem to be a small, incredibly simple, $60 part of the EVAP system. So, I spent $1200 to replace an entire system that wasn't even broken. Never got my money back and I won't ever be bringing my car back to this lazy, untrustworthy and unreliable shop. read more

My daughter is a student in San Marcos. I found reliable auto through yelp and had her take her car to them when her check engine light came on. She also needed them to change out a tail light. Unfortunately, the check engine light went away and they couldn't diagnose. They kept the car for several days and tried driving it at various times and could not replicate the problem. Reliable auto changed the tail light and gave her back the car with no charge. The next time she has a problem with her car, this is exactly where I will send her. It's nice to know I can send a young woman in and they will not try to take advantage of her lack of car knowledge. read more

They replaced the catalytic converter in my car with an after market one just before covid hit. The warranty was 1 year. It failed at 2 years and 15,000 miles. They went ahead and replaced for free as it should have lasted at least 5 times that. They stood behind their work. I trust them. read more

I called about 30 minutes before closing on a Saturday (I didn't know they were closing so soon) to see if I could get a cross-threaded bolt fixed. The man I spoke to on the phone said absolutely and had no problem working on my car right away when I showed up at 12:45. While I was there someone else came in to ask for an inspection (at this time it was a few minutes past closing) and without hesitating they said sure! By far the worst repair shop I've ever visited. I've taken my truck in 3 times and each time the problems did not get fixed and they tried overcharging me by $300-$400 until i walked through each charge with them. I went in to get my right upper wheel bearing replaced and a year later I had to take it back to get replaced again. I also took it in for an A/C issue which they said I just needed coolant and the situation ended up being far worse. So i took it back in and they kept my truck for a week, the A/C worked well for about 3 weeks and now I am yet again experiencing the same exact problems but now I also have water leaking into my vehicle from the A/C and causing mold. I didn't get a good first impression from these guys at the front counter. I've been scouting around for a new mechanic and heard this place was good. Aside from the front counter experience, I only had a state inspection done and was told it would be 10 minutes but ended up taking about 30 minutes. On top of that the front counter guy starting heading out without even taking the keys. I had to offer them over. If that isn't a sign for "I'm not going to do anything" then what is? It's only a state inspection so I don't really care but I don't think I'd trust this place for mechanic work based off that experience. read more

I had a sensor going out on my car which was affecting my catalytic converter and causing problems with some misfiring. I took it in early in the morning and had a call back a couple hours later about replacing the sensor, and said that was probably causing the misfiring issue. My truck was running rough along with the oil gauge showing needle slammed on high (oil pressure.) Brought my truck in here based on the many good reviews first thing in the morning and they were more than accommodating co side ring I hadn't called beforehand. They took their time to assess the problem and thoroughly discussed the problems (unsurprisingly many) and helped me to decide which ones would be necessary to fix now while others could wait. Never felt pressured to do anything beyond what a girl can afford right now given the loss of work from the COVID-19 epidemic. They were fairly priced given the amount of work needing to be done and honored the 10% off coupon from their Yelp ad. They also were as accommodating as "socially isolation" possible for my dog and I and didn't hassle me for the loaded down mess of a condition that my truck was in given it was packed for moving. Definitely will be bringing my truck back here to be serviced further in the future once funds become more stable. read more
