A longtime local hangout, Turf is well laid-out, a comfortable place to drink and watch a game or…read moretwo. A private back room is ideal for small group events. The servers are ALWAYS 100% "on." The drink menu is extensive enough for just about anyone.

I'm not from around here but was in the area for a family function. Desperate afterwards for a…read moredrink, we landed here, at "Turf". I hear it's a known local bar and I mean, it seems to be a quality representation of the people and the area. For better and worse! Hear me out. It seems to be an older building that's been kitted out to be a bar/restaurant. The entryway has good space, and the bathrooms were off to the right. To the left and up the stairs is the main bar. I like it - kinda dim, exposed brick, wood bar, some games, some high tops some 4 and 6 tops. The people working at the bar were great. Some kids (meaning they looked young) and some who know the drill. This kid waited on me. He was real nice but can't make an Old Fashioned all that well. They have a drink menu, and I suggest you avoid it. I like to order an old-fashioned as a lithmis test (it was also on their menu). It was sour and awful and not made correctly. But hey. Look around. Get the vibe. It's beer and basic mixed drinks. I wanted wine, but again, not the place. I heard about these "snoot shooters", a local delicacy. I'm, uh, old. But hey I had to try one. It's this small hour glass shaped glass: there's "Ski" soda on the bottom, and jack Daniel's on the top. The jack was like 1/4 of a shot. I'm old enough I don't mix whisky with weird crap anymore, but I have to say, these are delicious! What a stupid good gimmick! The ski doesn't come out fast but the whole super-sweet soda chaser to crap whisky is a classic idea reinterpreted here. I here people, parties, Wedding parties, will show up and get a large order of these. And in fact that happened while we were there. This kinda gimmick, I approve. I'm surprised these don't exist anywhere else. Ok. Getting into the place, I smartened up and got a couplea beers. Stag. It's awesome! It has this woody-nuttiness to it. They don't have this back in Boston, but they ought! My friends had mules - said they were good. Another had some kinda blue vodka and ski - also amazing. It's kind of a dive bar, local color, restaurant steeped in tradition that is absolutely indicative of the area. If you are visiting or live here, this is a go-to spot.
