I usually take greyhound/trailways or megabus to NYC from Syracuse (vice versa). Usually get the cheaper rides and i havent had an extremely bad experience. The usual lateness here and there, but this is my second time (this summer) in a greyhound bus that smells like piss. Im not sure if theres an issue with the bathroom door or something with the pipes, but it reeks! I chose greyhound over Megabus because I thought it would be more pleasant and safe, but i think I'm starting to change my mind (especially when Megabus price was cheaper and usually smells great (even the bathroom)! I hope someone in Greyhound reads this and does something about the quality of their busses this summer. Its not right to have to make passangers go through long hours in a bus that smells unpleasant. read more

You can tel that there are some areas of the country where bus travel isn't sneered upon. New York is one of those places. When I pulled up to the Syracuse bus station after all night on a bus, I was glad to see a full service Dunkin Donuts (hello coffee) and Subway (thinking ahead to lunch). The place was busy but well-maintained and located close to the mall so if you're layover was long enough (mine wasn't) and you needed to stretch your legs, you could walk on over and window shop (or shop, whatever your vice!). I looked forward to this stop on the way back as it was one of the best appointed stations where you could take a break from the bus and not have to travel too far. read more

I departed on a bus from Syracuse, NY heading for NYC on Tuesday 7/4 at 12:35 PM. The bus broke down roughly an hour later outside of Cortland, NY. A backup bus quickly arrived but only a portion of riders were allowed to switch buses, the remaining passengers were forced to sit on the side of the road for nearly 3 hours, without food, water, or any procedural update about what was happening to us. To top it off, the driver was grossly unprofessional when addressing the matter. He not only gave us the wrong information twice, he was rude to several customers when asked for an update. The majority of people taking the bus do so out of economic necessity; it's the cheapest option available. However, the least expensive choice should never equate such bottom rate service. Even the refund process is inexplicably complicated and I have zero confidence in Greyhound's ability to safety and efficiently transport PAYING customers. We will not be riding again and would strongly discourage anyone from using Greyhound moving forward. read more

This was my first time on the bus. I was looking forward to watching netflix and just relaxing on the trip. They offered free WiFi but they fail to mention Youtube, Netflix, Hulu or any movie site is BLOCKED! You can only use the WiFi for social media when the WiFi is actually working. The trip itself was fine. It wasn't a bad drive or ride rather. The bus was on time there and back without issue and we even stopped for Burger King there and back. I will use the bus again, I just think the WiFi could be a lot better and the fact they use it as a selling point should also include that you can't watch movies or TV shows because it's all blocked. read more

I apologize to anyone who might be offended by these lines, or as Ray O'neil - the "customer experience manager" (*insert rolling laughter*) kindly said to me - its not my problem. Should i even describe the level of disappointment ive had? Lets start from the bottom to the top: 1) all the buses i took with this syracuse operated station were filthy and smelled of urine. 2) most of the electricity outlets to charge devices were loose. 3) the busses break down an average of 2 time a trip 4) my , and probably every other passenger's suitcase were soaked wet. What a horrendous company. From my trip starting in New York all the way to Buffalo the experience was dreadful. I paid for priority boarding and come to find out, it's not even a thing? Why would you offer it, charge me for it, and then tell me to get into the back of the line? I was so misinformed and embarrassed. Not only that, Grey Hound refused to refund me. Pardon, what? That's absurd. The bus was completely packed and so uncomfortable. I get it's a public bus and is what it is, but not a lot of ergonomic thought went into the design. Once we got to Buffalo, come to find out my wheel on my Travelpro was missing. Come on, seriously? The driver told me it was my fault, that I broke the wheel before leaving. Dude, come on. I went inside the building to report the missing wheel in hopes of some compensation. The lady told me to fill out this sheet of paper and someone would contact me. I have used Greyhound for years and was fairly pleased with the service I received. Today that sadly changes.I just booked a trip with them. From Los Angeles, CA to Syracuse NY.2 words are all that needs to be said over how I feel about "my vacation" here are those very important words...NEVER AGAIN!!!! I am blown away with absolutely appalling service that was given. Not to just myself.So many people I encountered on this hell ride feel the same.I don't know what upper management is failing to do but I do know you must do some serious work and perhaps try listening to the people who give their hard earned money to you all expecting at least fair treatment and service.I promise you that is no where close to what I received. I promise I will not pay anyone for degrading demeaning far from acceptable service. Ok, before I make a review, this is a kid writing this, not an adult, so please excuse me if I get a bit heated. First off, on the way here, we got a flat tire and had to wait two hours until we could keep going again, which was super annoying, I don't blame the employees, they are just doing there job. Second, on the way back, about an hour into the ride so many people were complaining about the horrible Oder on the bus and my mom nearly passed out, so we had to turn around to switch buses. Fourth, the outlets in the bus kind of suck due to their lack of ability to hold even the lightest AC adapter in place. FIFTH, the seat belt clip popped out of my seat, and I have a picture too, I am writing this on the bus and I can't wait to see what miserable flaws this bus ride has in store. For a quick convenient inexpensive ride down to NYC, you can't beat it. About 4.5-5 h from SYR to Port Authority in Midtown West for 80-90 bucks RT. The buses I took were clean, comfortable, had wifi and power plugs for the smartphones. It is a breakeven cost wise for driving and you can sleep the 4 hours, especially nice on the ride back. If you have a car full of people then driving makes sense. For 1 or 2 persons, the bus is the way to go. read more

I can't even give this place a one star they deserve 0. I paid over $100 dollars for a ride from NYC to Buffalo, the man checking tickets in NYC asked for my ticket and I told him I didn't know how to get to the barcode, he understood and asked me for my last name and let me get on the bus. When the bus arrived to Syracuse, which is 2 hours away from buffalo we switched drivers and the new driver was completely rude I don't know his name I just know he's short African American with big eyes. He was being rude to everyone on the bus and came around checking tickets I didn't explained to him exactly what I explained to the one in NYC I don't know how to get to the barcode and he looked at me upset saying " you've been on the bus for this long and don't know how to get to the barcode?" In a tone that was rude so I said to him " you're the bus driver you should know where the barcode is can you help me find it " he said Walks away from me saying I won't be riding with him with my attitude. He comes back on the bus with security telling me to get off the bus and I refused. I was sitting on that bus for hours paid money for the ride. He called the cops and when before they even got there I felt bad for holding the bus up but I also was about to be thrown off the bus so I got off and asked the workers in the Syracuse building if anyone was going to get me another ride to buffalo and they all looked at me in silence as if they couldn't help me. I ended up getting left in Syracuse with no transportation to buffalo. I will never ride greyhound again and I hope karma eats everyone of you up. read more

One of the worst bus services that has ever exist. The only problem is that it is the closest service near Syracuse University so students do not have a choice other than to use it. MAKE SURE TO NEVER MESS UP YOUR TRIP because there will be a $20 fee. I spoke to a manager named Dennis on the phone and he was terrible and they have terrible customer service so be very cautious when you are on their website. I never made it to my destination because the bus broke down and I had to wait 3 hours and completely missed the function I was supposed to be at. I had to call someone to come and pick me up and I was 1.5 hours away from home...I did not get back until 8 hours later. Instead of wasting energy being upset, I kept my calm and walked back into the greyhound station desk and spoke with a representative there, but she told me she couldn't refund me because there was no supervisor present and gave me a number to call. I called customer service right away and filled out a claim, which took almost an hour - and then was told I had to wait 24 hours and call back again to verify my claim. Fast forward I called again, and after a 30 min call with a customer service rep who kept putting me on hold I was randomly disconnected. I never got a call back, and then had to go through another 60 min call where I had to wait forever for a supervisor because I was told that I could only get 25% of my money back or a 50% voucher. Ultimately I was refunded 75% of my ticket price, but out of principle, I still feel that this is completely unacceptable. At the very least, I should have gotten a full refund, considering the fact that my whole day was wasted, I missed my function, and my customer service experience was terrible! read more

I have to say that I was very disappointed on my "Greyhound" trip this past week... I booked a fully refundable round-trip ticket from SYR to NYC online through the Greyhound website. I had not traveled on a bus in almost 40 years, but the rates were too good to pass up and the buses looked great... I printed my ticket at home and both the tickets were labeled "Priority Seating", but the only the return was marked "Trailways"... I assumed this to be like an airline "code share" arrangement, and didn't think anything of it. I paid "full price" for a refundable ticket and priority seating and comparable amenities. Specifically it said (on my RETURN ticket ONLY): "This part of your trip will be with our partner bus company, NEW YORK TRAILWAYS ###. Some of our partner carriers are unable to honor priority boarding, but you'll still get all the other great perks that come with your chosen fare." When I got to the SYR station, it was NOT a modern Greyhound bus that waited for me... It was an older Trailways bus with cloth seats, cramped legroom, and a disgusting bathroom... Certainly NOT the leatherette seats and spacious, "upscale" interior, very nice Prevost bus advertised on the Greyhound website. Everyone was already in line, so I got in line, too. When I got to the bus, I asked about the "Priority Seating" and was told "Oh, you should have come to the front of the line first..." No announcements, no signage, nothing... How was I to know? On the return trip from NYC, I went right to the agent at the front of the line when I arrived at the terminal, and showed them the "Priority Seating" designation on my ticket. He said "We don't do that here." Are you kidding? I paid extra for that "great perk" and never got it. On both buses, the rest room was filthy and foul smelling, the WiFi was spotty at best (I had to keep re-logging on) and on the return bus, the AC power plugs (to charge cell phones, laptops, etc) were so loose the plug kept falling out. Neither myself nor my seat mate could use them. I feel like a "bait and switch" victim, and can tell you plainly that I shall NEVER, EVER, AGAIN travel by Greyhound or Trailways. This year I had purchased bus tickets for March 24th when I had meant to buy them for February 24th. I realized this not even 24 hours later of buying them. So I called customer service and told them the mistake I made and asked if I could exchange them. I was told I would have to go the bus station in person to do so. Kind of inconvenient but whatever. When I get to the bus station I speak to a woman behind the desk and she tells me she is on break and I will have to wait for the other employee to return from the restroom ....okay....whatever.. Once the other woman arrives she tells me I will have to pay $20 per ticket for the exchange. The tickets themselves were only $40 each. This price seemed excessive and I explained how I made a simple mistake and had just bought the tickets the day prior. She then walked away into the small room and proceeded to make the exchange without saying a word to me. If she was not ignoring me when I asked questions she was giving me attitude. This is UNDOUBTEDLY the worst customer service I have ever received. I demanded my original tickets back and proceeded to call the customer service line again. After being on the phone the representative for over an hour he finally allowed me to file a complaint and send in my tickets for a full refund. However the complaint takes six-eight weeks to be processed, guessing it is because they get a lot of them.... On the sixth and eighth week I checked the status and it was still being processed. Probably eleven weeks in I had almost forgotten about the entire thing and realized I STILL had not been refunded. When I called to check the status again I was told they did not have all the information they needed to refund me. If i hadn't called again I would have never been refunded. I filed the complaint in mid February and was not the tickets until the end of April. It was ridiculous. I will NEVER use Greyhound Services again. read more

My ride to New York was terrifying. I'm not trying to be overly dramatic - I was literally afraid for my life. The bus was obviously having some serious problems, it was making extremely odd noises and we wound up circling back to the transportation center as though to disembark and get on a different bus, but the driver apparently decided against that and went ahead. Besides being a death trap, the bus was really dirty. I know, I know, it's a bus. But being as expensive as it is ($72 to go to New York?!? REALLY? It's cheaper to fly!) and considering the numerous, cheaper competitors out there, you'd think they'd step up their game. read more

This bus station is much cleaner then most. They are very organized and the staff there are helpful if asked. Only two food choices Subway or Dunkin Donuts.... But for having a lay over it is not a bad place.... Was not shady characters hanging around outside which made me feel very safe and 24 hour security. read more

This was probably one of the nicer bus stations in upstate new york. There is a dunkin donuts and a subway. There is also a shop too where you can buy snacks and NY souvenirs. The bathrooms were okay for a public bathroom. The only thing that was creepy for me was that outside of the station there can be many smokers, so I would stay away if you are not comfortable. Greyhound is the worst choice for shipping your belongings to another place. My boxes have been lost for two months, there are no shipping updates, when you call and speak with a representative they have no answers( and I've called every day for two months inquiring about ALL OF MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS). All they have to say is sorry, this is normal. Well that's utter crap. You are handling people's personal belongings...you don't get to lose that stuff. You speak with a professional English speaking person when you call inquiring about shipping your packages with them and they insure you will be well taken care of and then when they lose everything you own and care about, you get to speak with some Philippino who doesn't speak a word of English. I­t­ is disgusting and unprofessional and I will never use greyhound busfreightor again. They have lost tens of thousands of dollars of my belongs, including Tiffany bracelets my dad gave me, my Frye boot collection, my camera equipment ( I am a professional photographer). They have lost an $899 pair of ski boots, all my clothes, special belongings from relatives that have passed away, all my keepsakes, EVEYTHING . And have nothing to say for I­t­. You can't even speak with a manager when you call, you have to fill out a form to request that a manger will call you(which they surely will not call you!). The emotional trauma of this loss is unbearable. I advertise how much greyhound sucks as often as I can. The only belongings I have are the ones I put in a suitcase and flew across the country. I am heartbroken over all the keepsakes I have lost, things that mean so much to me that I could never replace. And they don't fulfill the insurance you pay for. They are disgustingly unprofessional and do not care about their customers. I­t­ wouldn't surprise me if they just steal people's personal belongs. Horrific. I've never written a review before, but this is such a loss I felt like warning people. Pay 200$ a box to have things shipped with a professional company that will look after your belongings. My friend was leaving from Syracuse to Raleigh North Carolina. He found out his bus was delayed so he waited with me in my car in the short term parking. He got a signal from a known security guard to come back in. Unfortunately, he found out the bus he was scheduled for had already left. When we went inside, a wonderful grey hound employee, Emmanuel rescheduled my friend because due to the delay, he would of missed his connecting bus ride in New York. The bus was suppose to leave at 12:15 and it's 1:25 and still no word on the bus and they are not keeping us informed or taking any responsibility so far. The buses are great, with the Wifi and the outlets. But only once you actually get on! I travel monthly between New York and Maryland, with 3 transfers each time. I do not remember the last time a bus was not at least an hour late, if not more. The employees are considerate, and will gladly get you to your destination using another route, and for free. All in all, great service, but awful time management; stay away if you are in a time-crunch. read more
