It's been many years since I took a Greyhound bus to explore the country. Greyhound still serves a good purpose to many travelers. I had to pick up acquaintance from the Atlanta location, and it was very busy on a Wednesday afternoon. I was greeted by a young lady police officer who asked if I had already purchased my ticket. I told her that I was picking up someone. She told me to go to the waiting area. Arrivals and departures were clearly marked. I passed by the ticket counter that had a real human assisting people. (Nowadays, everywhere we go, we have to deal with machines.) Ladies' room had an attendant playing with her phone. The restroom was usable, but not extremely clean. I guess that is due to a large volume of travelers? On the back of the large waiting hall was a consession stand, but I didn't check it out. Paid parking was available around the station. However, be careful when you use one of those self served parking machines. If you only stay 30 minutes, you do not need to pay money for parking till midnight. During the daytime, I felt safe because there was a policeman outside the station in a parked vehicle. read more

Workers are always hateful especially in Atlanta Georgia. Always having to wait many hours or have to buy another ticket when things are the companies fault. Always expect to be stuck at 1 of their stations and they will not care at all, and they will continue to be mean.And people to everybody. I would recommend more training for staff. Phone lines cut off in the middle of updating ticket. Cancellations at the last minute. Disgruntled drivers. Holidays are the worst so being prepared would be great. I have a handicap and was not treated too kindly. But one driver was nice to me. Driving too fast I do have some concerns about safety. Atlanta bus station needs some work on customer service. I understand the hustle and bustle of life but respect is important. Problem is people have legit complaints but money means more. In order to be in service to the customer you have to understand the importance of customer satisfaction. I had an emergency change of plans last minute and the full value of the ticket was consumed by fees. I was told that because I didn't call 15 minutes before that there's nothing they could do. I in fact did contact them prior to the 15 minute window in which the automated service spoke for more than 3/4 minutes and then the phone call dropped or hung up. I've been utilizing greyhound for many of my trips and the lack of true help and satisfaction is below the level of customer appreciation and satisfaction. Hello for someone to work in customer service this is outrageous how this company allows the drivers to handle and speak to the passengers, paying passengers at that. I boarded from Houston on the 22, changed drivers in new Orleans. I'm so disappointed and disgusted on how we was treated. These two women drivers need to be fired. Saying that today, I was talked to crazy by my second driver just because I repeated my seat number. He then put a passenger off the bus and left her in Mobile. Because of a purse. He was very rude to me and to other passengers. This is a vacation for me, I'm not happy. We paid for our tickets and we demand Respect. I only put one star because you have to put at least one to post but they don't deserve any at all. I would never recommend anyone to come to this greyhound station in Atlanta. What would help is to hire less ghetto and unprofessional people, from security, the guy at the front desk and the bus drivers, none of them should be in customer service. Never in my life have I seen so many so called professionals In one place act so immature. It's usually just one person in the whole establishment that acts as if you're a bother to them, but it was literally all of them. They want to argue with you and then come out the door to watch you go to the wrong bus then tell you that it's your fault that you missed the bus. To be told by the driver of that bus to go inside and find another bus is crazy. I know it seems like I'm leaving something out because this makes no sense but I am not so I'm baffled. To that driver I say this. I don't know who upset you before you came across my path but why ruin my day because someone or something ruined yours? Well, I haven't taken Greyhound in a while. It is what it is..dirty and seems unorganized. What happened? The drivers were great it's the station that needs attention, and the station in Columbia SC was gross appalling and dirty, to say the least. Clean the damn stations. I'm sure someone would take the job and if there is already a cleaning crew they need to be FIRED! All people that ride busses are not ghetto. We want a nice comfortable safe clean station and bus to travel on..the employees should represent their company better than that no matter where you work. If you are genuinely a nice person who is just a guest on your way to your next destination this terminal will take 'every ounce' of niceness out of you, The employees and security guards are rude, unprofessional and unhelpful ; They will refuse to reschedule your ticket for free if you have a language barrier or if they feel like they can take advantage of you .. Even when they are required to change it for free if a trip is cancelled or delayed , This place is full of thieves, drugheads, and people with very BAD INTENTIONS.. Rudest employees ever. Not all, but in my dealings with this station, I have in the course of my trip from Arkansas to Columbus, been treated more rudely. The information desk/ticketing guys asked my why I was so stupid. I missed my bus because this morning, I was sitting right by the gates, my bus was never announced and when I went to ask about it, I was told it already left. It left early with out the nasty man behind the counter announcing it. When I came back through the terminal same day, I was reverse racially profiled. A very arrogant and cocky security guard followed me everywhere I went and found something to reprimand me about throughout my time at the station which was over 3 hours the second time around. On the flip side of such horrendous behavior there was one security guard who advised me on an alternate method of transportation so that I could get to Columbus before my son shipped out from the Army base. That one man helped save a poor mom who did not know when she would see her son again when there were no other busses to Columbus until the next day. One simple act of kindness by one kind security guard and one amazing taxi driver, I was able to see my son before he left. I was not the only person left in tears by Atlanta greyhound staff. Unacceptable to treat decent people like garbage because of the few other passengers and homeless who cause problems in the station. Hello...ever heard of A/C or at least a couple of fans and maybe some additional benches so people don't have to sit on the nasty urine and vomit covered floor. Absolutely NOT. Took the bus from Tallahassee to Atlanta and it was HORRIBLE. The smell of urine before you even enter the bus is disgusting. Drug addicts going in and out of the bathroom constantly during the 6 hour ride. The amount of homeless people and vaping on the bus absolutely never again. Thank goodness my daughter and I had masks. During the ride we continuously sprayed body spray on or hands and over our masks and directly in the bus to help mask the smell. Upon arrival at the ATL bus depot was another story. We took the bus because I could not find a flight out of Tally back home for the dates I needed. Never again. They need to out the entire company out of business. Oh and most recently hearing someone was shot and killed on the bus it's a hard NO for me. Only book if getting to your destination is OPTIONAL and you have ample time and money to waste. I wish I could leave zero stars. Booked a trip that was supposed to leave at 12:30am, bus never showed and no employee knows where it was. I guess the buses don't have trackers and employees don't have cell phones. At about 1:30am they said it would be there by 2:30am. Nothing. It got delayed till 3am. 3am comes, nothing. So it gets delayed AGAIN until 7AM. See pictures below. SO I guess if you don't live in the city you're supposed to sleep at the station? Or walk to the strip club across the street? They're probably in on it. And the bus STILL doesn't show up until 7:34AM. This is a bus from Atlanta to Saint Louis, MO with several stops between, 18 hours total. When the bus gets to Memphis, TN at about 5pm we are told our second bus had been canceled and won't be there until 8:30AM TOMORROW. Why on God's green earth would they let ppl get on the first bus knowing the second bus was canceled? Does that make sense? Leaving people stranded for an entire extra night?? Not only is that incredibly irresponsible, but it's DANGEROUS. If you are a woman, DO NOT EVER TRAVEL USING GREYHOUND BY YOURSELF. If I could leave half a star I would. This morning myself and family came to pick up a family member from bus station. We had to use the restroom once arrived so we went into the bus station. Once inside we were hassled for tickets by security then finally allowed to proceed. When getting to the bathroom a worker was cleaning. We asked to used the bathroom, and was denied access for 5 minutes. Entering the restroom we were told very rudely to hurry up and the bathroom wasn't cleaned. read more

Just returned from round trip from Atlanta to Nashville on Greyhound. I reserved seat both ways and had a wonderful and safe trip. Drivers are very explicit about rules...no phone conversations...all phones on vibrate...no loud personal conversations as well as usual smoking and alcohol bans. Seat comfortable with foot rest(important for a short person) One fifteen minute stop halfway near Chattanooga provides bathroom break. Bus left and arrived on time. Drivers were courteous and most importantly drove safely. Bus station restrooms were clean and maintained. The Atlanta station was crowded upon my return, but I did not feel uncomfortable and definitely will take Greyhound again. read more

I wanted to write this because after reading all the yelp reviews I was really nervous about the bus ride I had planned and hoped to put others at ease. I don't know if all the reviews predate the new building, but my experience was, overall, a good one. While there were some possibly unhoused and/or mentally unstable people immediately outside the station, the station itself was fine. There was security. You had to show that you had a ticket in order to enter the waiting room, and the woman behind the counter answered the question I had. The waiting room was relatively clean considering how full it was. The buses boarded from "gates" that opened from the waiting room - we didn't have to cross a parking lot or go to a different corner. Announcements as to gates for different buses were very clear, and there were multiple announcements made for each bus. The bus we boarded was clean, the driver announced (and enforced) the rules, and we left on time. I don't think the area surrounding the station would be a good place to be at night, or alone - which is why we used Lyft to get to the station - but the station itself was fine. read more

I think every one in America knows that " we the passengers have no control once your bus is late for you too make your transfer. Therefore I feel Greyhound should be alot more accommodating as opposed to having your passengers wait for "HOURS" for the next bus to complete your journey. Beyond pissed. I had a transfer from Augusta, Ga to Atlanta, Ga scheduled for 1:10p to 3:45p. From there, I was scheduled to transfer from Atlanta at 4:15pm back home to Birmingham, Al. The bus driver showed up in Augusta at almost 1:30(20 mins late), missed the Atlanta exit on the way back and had to turn around, then finally got us to Atlanta around 4:25p. I would think that common sense would tell him to call ahead and alert the station that he was behind. But not only did we miss the Birmingham bus, but it was pulling off as we pulled up, and I got out and chased it and an attempt to wave it down , but it just kept going. Bottom line: They stole $132 from me by not providing service and refusing to offer a refund. Filthy, Covid-unsafe, disorganized, rude staff, horrible and inept customer service both locally and at the national headquarters. Not to mention a dangerous area. Security kept the riff-raff away but that was the ONLY positive of this location. If you have ANY other option use that to travel instead. Even if that other option is twice as expensive. If you can afford it, go with the other option you will probably regret it otherwise. My Story: I was in Atlanta for work and wanted to surprise my son on Saturday and be at his birthday party which I previously told him I wasn't going to be able to make (much to his dismay). I purchased "Priority" tickets from Atlanta to Nashville (a 10:45pm departure time) to try to make it to by the next afternoon. When I arrived at the station they told me that they had sent the 10:45 bus off over 10 minutes early and I needed to transfer my tickets to a bus departing at 12:15am. I was pissed, but I did, and after I waited over 3 hours, the bus never arrived. When I called booking they told me that the bus had departed Atlanta on time at 12:15am, but the customer service agent at the station, Anson Jackson assured me that the bus had never arrived in Atlanta and that he had never called that bus number. I spoke with him several times between 11:00pm and 3:30am. I was standing by line "E", not sitting, paying full attention, and he never called for bus 1142. Even though the automated system and booking agents via the phone later were telling me I missed my bus. When I called to file a refund claim I was told by "Jane" that she could only help me with booking even though the phone option clearly indicated a refund claim. She also told me she couldn't even make a note of our interaction or my grievance. I offered to let her speak to Mr. Jackson so that she could hear from him and verify that the bus 1142 had never come and that he never called it out but she refused, saying she could not even speak to her own Fellow company employee. She said she could transfer me to a 4:45pm bus but as I told her it would be too late I only wanted to go to TN in the morning to make it to my son's party that afternoon. With no record of my incident and no help that night I emailed customer service (because they refuse to take calls) about a refund since I was unable to use my round trip tickets by no fault of my own. They basically called me a liar since their system showed the bus made it to its destination on time (yeah by SKIPPING Atlanta) and told me the tickets were non refundable, no exceptions whatsoever. After about 3 emails they finally offered me a voucher of what I paid for my tickets to use their services again. But I refused and demanded a refund. Again they told me the wouldn't issue one no matter what effectively robbing me of $132 since I never used their services. Since there was no record of my calls and they refused to talk to their own staff the night it was happening they basically just said their records showed the bus went to its destination on time and it was my word against theirs. Also they weren't really enforcing masks, the place was jam packed and gross all around. Please save yourself a potential headache and them stealing your money. Spend the money to rent a car or use ANY other service. They don't know how to conduct business or treat patrons right. They offer cheap " non refundable" tickets so that they can hide behind those words when they screw your over. But we all know that when a company wants to do right by a disgruntled patron they can make exceptions. Not Greyhound though I will NEVER use them again and neither should you read more

They tell their customers to arrive 15 minutes prior to the bus's departure so I did. I waited about 2 hours for my bus from CO Springs to Denver and it turns out the bus left 20 minutes early. Greyhound should be ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!! They want to charge rates and have change fees equal to that of airlines, but they don't give a flying saucer about their passengers! We paid almost $500 for a ticket from Florida to Dallas and Greyhound treated us as if we paid $5 for it. It's only because my mom doesn't fly, and Amtrak was going to take longer (and it was a weekend trip) that we even chose Greyhound. That was a mistake! My 77-yr old elderly mom was traveling (alone) with them from Mulberry FL to Dallas TX at the end of April, and because of the ridiculously way they're set up (BUSES PARK ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE STATION) or their inconsiderate, non-committed employees, my mom missed a 7p connector bus to Dallas and had to be put up in a hotel for the night because the next bus didn't leave until 24 hours later!! She's dragging her luggage up and down stairs to find out 'WHERE THE HECK IS THE BUS SHE'S LEAVING ON?' because the station doesn't make any announcements and the drivers obviously don't come in and call for anyone, and THEN they'll just pull off and leave you when they KNOW you'll have to wait 24-hrs for another damn bus!! Even the airline will call for you when they know they sold 100 tickets and only 98 passengers are on the plane. This disregard for passengers is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and I will NEVER ride or allow anyone I love to ride a Greyhound bus ever again! The Department of Transportation needs to step in and treat Greyhound just as they do the airlines when it's THEIR FAULT someone misses their ride. Why wouldn't a bus driver come in to ANNOUNCE they're ACROSS THE STREET? Why don't they AT LEAST call into the station and tell the staff to ANNOUNCE THEY'RE ACROSS THE STREET?? I entered this bus station for the first time ever, seeking only info (price) on a round trip fare to a particular location. Only one female at the counter with approximately 200 people at the station waiting for rides. The employee at the counter was very unprofessional. As I was explaining to her what I was seeking she continued to cut me off from speaking. She finally gave me the fare charge. When asked about the schedule (departure/arrival) of destination. She quickly sent me to the kios. It was only about 5 in line. I kind of felt that she was speaking down to me with in mind that the passengers riding were all slightly above poverty level or homeless. I was totally surprised that Atlanta being a city as such would allow a business like this with customers from everywhere would operate on such level. I've never rode a bus anywhere and wanted the experience to ride to another state and back. After this experience, (unsanitary, over crowded terminals, rude staff, filthy environment, etc. This place was probably the most horrible business in the city. I changed my mind and drove to AMTRAK. I arrived at 5:45 for my 6:30 bus to Valdosta from Atlanta. Pouring rain. Walked in the door no line at the counter. Yes!! I had already purchased my ticket online and just wanted to check my bag. The process took two minutes hassle free. 6:15 they called my bus. We lined up very orderly and was escorted outside to the bus. Thank God they have it all covered because it was pouring. Never got wet. Bus is empty. Seat to myself. What more can I ask for? Some of the reviews are just to the left. This is Greyhound not the airport. You don't expect it to be plush just decent. I didn't see nothing wrong with this location. Yes the famous Magic City is across the street the the Atlanta Police Department Headquarters is around the corner too. 0 Stars, horrible transportation option! first trip 5 hour delay. Return trip 2nd bus left before scheduled time, trip rescheduled for following day free of charge. Next day 2 hour delay and missing connection causing another day missed of work. You call customer services and of course they are over seas and no way of helping but offer to reschedule. Mind you these trips are in the middle of the night so we only find out of delay when we wake up to head out!!! 3 trips and none were punctual. These stops are at gas stations not like you can wait at a station! If you want a stress filled trip use greyhound. read more

First time shame on me, second time... sadly with your Megabus competition either chased away and/or acquired Greyhound is literally the only (bus) ticket out of town to my target destination today! Three times in the last few months my son has purchased tickets for travel from Atlanta to Florida. Unfortunately, two of those three trips were delayed from the original departure time of 12:20 am. In the first instance, the bus was repeatedly delayed a few hours intermittently, and finally departed after 6 am to coincide with the next scheduled bus departure time. Coincidence indeed! Last trip was the worst of all... This blatant disrespect of my son/your customer's time is deplorable. How do you measure 'Customer Experience'? Or does customer experience only apply to specific individuals? Does the following verbiage resonate at all??? "We are not the same company we used to be. We are better, providing a safe, affordable and modern travel alternative to other forms of transportation. Greyhound is an American icon, a proud company that many people depend on to get them to their destinations..." Will my son be extended the same invite to ride with you from NYC to Beantown with your CEO??? Although this quote is several years old, shouldn't service have improved and not regressed? In what realm do you deem this acceptable? The Atlanta station is not located in the best part of the city, especially during the wee hours of the morning. There are no eateries in the vicinity and even if there were any they would surely be closed at 10 pm, like every other place in Atlanta. Plus the spoonfed information doesn't allow for a pickup as no exact departure time is provided... just 2 hour delay, then an additional1.5 hours, etc. Once again, how is this course of action justifiable? My son finally boarded bus at 4:57 am! Really?!? And it gets better...not a bus destined for Gainesville, Fl but one to Jacksonville, Fl where he connected to a bus to Lake City, Fl and THEN Gainesville! I couldn't make this up if I tried... he purchased a ticketand ended up with a tour of North Central Florida!   Lastly, felt the need to voice my concern at your company's habitual disregard. Since my last Twitter post after the first incident and last post will likely not receive a response, l do hope that this post does not be in vane.  Your company has got to do better than this! I would offer my experience in project management, program management and consumer engagement, as this debacle falls into all categories, but doubt I would want to work for a company that clearly doesn't value it's customers. After reading the reviews mentioning the creepy area and possible rape, I was nervous to go to this station. But honestly, I didn't feel threatened at all. I walked across the street from the MARTA station, and into a small building. This review will compare the Greyhound station, and the Megabus stop that is also downtown. Building comparison: Greyhound is inside, so you're out of the rain and the temperature is much better than it would be if it were hot or cold outside. The Megabus stop is outside and doesn't even have its own building. All you'll get is an awning that can block rain, but does absolutely nothing to block the cold or the heat. Homeless comparison: People complained about homeless people cavorting around the Greyhound station, but I actually saw an employee turn a homeless person away. I think it just depends on who is working that night. Because Megabus is outside, homeless people are everywhere. 9/10 times I've been accosted outside the Megabus stop for money, food, or drugs. Homeless people are likely to be spread out on the ground at this stop. Transportation To/From comparison: Both have MARTA stations across the street from them. Employee comparison: Greyhound has several employees. There were at least half a dozen people in vests milling around, and someone was helpful to me when I had a question. They were curt, but they answered my questions without rolling their eyes. Megabus employees tend to be only one or two people, also in vests, who you'll only see when it's time to board. They walk up and down the street telling people to line up. Boarding comparison: Greyhound boarding is weird to me. Every destination has a letter grade A, B, etc. and a corresponding line, like at the DMV. You wait and then your letter is called on the tinny speaker, you go to the door and you get your name checked off, and then everyone files back out the door and then they board. Megabus boarding is leaps and bounds simpler. There are less buses, so you simply line up along the street when your bus comes, show your boarding pass, and get onto the bus. Stopping/transferring comparison: My Greyhound ticket claimed there weren't transfer stops. Apparently, they don't count stopping in Alabama, getting a transfer ticket, waiting in the Alabama Greyhound terminal station, and then getting on another bus as a transfer. Greyhound is more straightforward. They'll let you know if you get off the bus for a transfer, or if you stay on it the whole way there. Almost every single Megabus is a straight shot. In the years I've ridden Megabus, I only had to transfer once (Cleveland, on the way to NY) and they were clear about that. Bathroom comparison: Greyhound bathrooms in the building are disgusting. The trash was overfilled, and there were beer bottles stuffed into it; wet toilet paper clung to the floor. They were also out of soap and paper towels, so I'm glad I had hand sanitizer. The bathroom on the bus itself was... as okay as you would expect. There are less people on the Greyhound, so I would say the bathroom was cleaner. Megabus doesn't have any bathrooms, because it is on the side of the road. The Megabus bus bathroom is pretty standard emergency-use only, and in a bit worse shape than the Greyhound bus bathroom. Seating comparison: The Greyhound station has seats. Yes, they're full of people, and most of them are old, rusted, and peeling, but they exist. The seats on the Greyhound itself were comfy, and could be adjusted. Greyhound seats are larger than Megabus. The Megabus "station" seats consist of the sidewalk pavement, or the awning where homeless people sleep that you have to jump up onto. The Megabus seats are small, even for a petite person. Character comparison: Both have some wacky, weird characters. Megabus has the people that look and smell homeless, and Greyhound has the people that dress like wizards pretending to be muggles, in weird flowery clothes and crop tops, with old jeans and two different boots on their feet. I've said this before and I'll say it again: people who ride buses are a species of their own. THE VERDICT: This is not the type of experience you purchase and expect to be treated like you're a clean individual with a steady job, like most other people are who are at the airport. Most of the people here are looking for simple, budgeted accommodations, and that's what you'll get. You get the college students living out of a backpack, and the homeless person who has managed to scrape up enough cash to purchase a ticket out. You get the single moms with four kids, and you get the people like me who don't mind going to sleep and waking up in another city. Tips: BRING A BLANKET OR JACKET! On the Greyhound, you cannot control your temperature, and the air is freezing. Wrapped up in a hoody, the tip of my nose was cold and I shivered through most of the trip.
