Once in each direction. On this particular trip the train was supposed to leave around 11:30 pm. I arrived around 10pm. I checked my bags with no problem. Amtrak allows you to check two bags under 50 pounds each for free. The baggage handler tagged my bags and put them on a belt with no problems. My ticker eas tagged handicap so I was directed to a seating area near the steps and elevator to wait for the train. The station is small but it is kept up well. The waiting room has ample seating for the amount of customers they have every day. The train arrived at 10:30. We were called to line up to go downstairs to the track. Handicap passengers used the elevator. The attendant took us 3 at a time to the train on a golf cart. The front of the train is closest to the station. It is a long walk down the platform to the cars. The conductor will ask you the name of your destination, give you an assigned seat and then direct you to the train car. The conductor was a little tart when customers were asking her questions. After boarding, I tried to get comfortable. Keep in mind there are already people on train. Some were sleeping due to the time being very late. After a few stops the train emptied due to passengers getting off in South Carolina. I was able to move to a seat by myself. Very nice. The ride is long but I still would take the train again.

When we first got off the train, we didn't look at the signs and just exited to the street so we ended up walking a lot more the first day but once you realize all the demarcations, you'll be fine. We actually found an exit closer to our hotel, without having to walk up hill. SCORE!!! The station looks clean and feels pretty safe. I agree that it's a bit dark but I kind of think it adds to the charm a bit. I love the monitors that let you know when the next train is coming. The escalators are interesting to say the least. They do take forever but they are very long and better than having to walk up 4 flights of stairs, especially with baggage. And once we found the exit that didn't involve a hill, the escalator in that area was a bit shorter.

If nothing else, this is the coolest MARTA station. It is carved out of granite and is deep…read moreunderground. I was meeting a friend nearby so I got off the train here. There were a lot of people wandering by the exit asking for money. There was also a wandering street lunatic who seemed potentially dangerous. Don't linger around the exit. The signage here was good for alerting you about inbound trains. I had purchased a round trip ticket earlier, so I did not have to deal with ticket vending machines here. My earlier experience was confusing, mostly due to the machine's UI.

There are automated ticket vending machines and at this time of day, there was a MARTA police officer leaning up against a wall and talking on his phone. So there's at least that level of security going on here. Easy enough to get down to the platform level with an escalator and then wait a few minutes for the train. Signage is good to let you know when the next train is coming and which way to go for downtown or the airport. For the return, I was pleased to see that my car was still here and intact, even with my out of state license plate. Yay!

Coming to the train station really brings back memories of my kids and I, just taking day trip to each train station and reading what history if any was posted on the walls inside. And getting off at certain stations to talk a walk around that area. Come to think of it, this is something I need to introduce to my grandson. The station hasn't change at all really. But I can say it is much much cleaner. The station is very will lit and I noticed several security officers, which was nice. I don't know if it was because of the football game, or if they're there all the time. Also the parking was plentiful. Also with security.

Affordable, easy to use machines, simple routes, gets the job done. I found the escalator at Peachtree Station steep so that was exciting and also noticed a couple of creepy crawlies saying hello when I was on the platform - yuck. Would an exterminator help with that?

There was some old lady making a nuisance of herself by the gates and the lone staff member on duty was trying to ignore her. As I passed through the gate the lady slipped through behind me and I said she should probably buy a ticket and she told me to mind my own damn business. I would have, if she didn't use me to skip paying for the train fare. I bet her plan was to follow someone else out at her stop because you need to use your ticket to enter and exit the stations. When we got on the train the lady was babbling to herself the entire time. I don't think she was all there in the head. At least this train didn't smell like pee. There was no ventilation so it was very stuffy despite the cooler temperatures of the early morning.

I have been in Atlanta for 3 years and up until a few days ago not once did I ever take the bus, train or street car. I honestly enjoyed the experience! I went to a few stations and ended at Ashby Station. I've heard a lot of compliants about Marta but my experience was fast, not crowded and it was efficient. Ashby station isn't the cleanest station but everything worked and flowed. And yes the station isn't in the best area, but it's definitely patrolled heavily.
