I've been driving past Gretchen's for ages and finally had the chance to stop in. I was blown away by the beauty and quality of their chocolates- the best in the area. I've since gone back for more! This was my first time here and I brought my little one along. My friend has been telling me to stop by and I finally had the chance to stop in. It's such a cute shop, felt so welcoming and cozy as you walked in. I was in to get Christmas gifts for my oldest teachers. They offered their decorative boxes or plain white boxes, I opted for decorative with four pieces(they have set prices for these boxes depending how many pieces you wanted). The wonderful worker was so helpful since it was my first time. I also got two pieces for me and my little one, they were delicious. So decadent, perfect size sweet treat and also beautiful(I forgot the flavors we tasted ‍, one was snow country and the other gold butterfly). I also purchased a peppermint mocha latte and that was delicious as well. I can't wait to head back to try more items! read more

Passing through Marcellus and we learned the chocolatier makes eye chocolate above the shop! Coming from the south we do not have any hand crafted chocolate like this available anywhere. The quality is excellent. The ambiance is perfect. Order the Barracuda - a bourbon vanilla cream, the Graceland - a vanilla bean milk chocolate ganache, and the Dreamboat sea salt caramels / possibly the best I've ever had!! read more

What a wonderful little chocolate shop! I recently visited Gretchen's to find some of the best tasting chocolate I've ever had! Her case of chocolates is outstanding in variety and they are literally a work on art. I also found that they carry my all time favorite coffee Forty Weight. In addition they have an espresso bar and serve lunch type foods. I enjoyed a hot chocolate and ordered some chocolates to take home. The seating area is quite sweet and feels a little old fashion and nostalgic. The staff was helpful and friendly. I highly recommend visiting. read more

So I saw online that Gretchen's was having a 1/2 price sale on all of their chocolates the day after Valentine's. You could also get a free small coffee. I rarely treat myself to candy, but with it being 1/2 price I gave myself permission to!! I had not been in since before COVID, so it felt great to be out in public and getting something special for myself! I was not sure what was in most of the chocolates so I had to ask. I wanted to get a small variety so the man behind the counter helped me to pick out six of them. Since I was treating myself I also ordered a blueberry vanilla scone to sit and have with my coffee. They also had a banana pecan scone and a lemon cake to choose from. Although I like scones, I often find them dry. However, this one was moist and delicious!! The perfect consistency and soooo tasty! I would say hands down it was the best scone I've ever had! So good! And it went perfect with my hot coffee with a bit of cream. I saved the candies for later and tried them one by one. Each one delicious unto itself! I had one filled with an amazing vanilla cream, one with peanut butter and little crunchies, one with Amaretto, a hazelnut with little crunchies, a sea salt caramel, and a coconut cream with almond. I cannot wait to go in again and try some more! They have many varieties! read more

I always avoid assorted chocolates. I dislike getting them as gifts and usually avoid them at all costs. HOWEVER.....my husband and I were just strolling and exploring the town of Auburn for the first time and happened by chance to pass by this establishment. Something pulled me in....perhaps my curiosity or my love of chocolate in general, or even how cute the shop was set up. Either way, it was there I found myself! I was immediately greeted and offered a free sample. I did it to be polite, thinking I would walk away afterward, but nooooo! Needless to say, we walked out with almost $100 worth of chocolates for myself and my mother for Mother's Day. I got two Mother's Day boxes and they were TOTALLY worth it. The best chocolates I've ever had. Trust me!!! They do NOT taste cheap and mass produced, which is exactly why I normally hate assorted chocolates. Now that I'm home, I literally have to discipline myself to pace myself and not have too many in one sitting. Delectable and sinfully sweet! I'm a believer now! read more

Such an adorable, unique and welcoming shop!! And heavenly chocolates and hot chocolate to boot! The three staff members (owners, I presume) made us feel so comfortable and welcomed. We were laughing like old friends immediately upon entering! It was Valentines Day weekend so their hours were extended-- thank goodness because my husband and I were able to enjoy our goodies at a small table for two after purchasing. My husband had their dark hot chocolate (which, he never usually indulges in so that's saying something!) and I picked out an assortment of caramel chocolates. Proudly, I have only tried 2 of the 8 I picked out, but it's only been 20 minutes :-P My favorite of the two-- the Lumina! Chewy caramel with a toasted pecan layer enveloped in dark chocolate wit gold salt sprinkled on top. Holy moly. Sooooo decadent! I can't believe this is homemade! I'm very glad I decided to get two of those! Great for kids of course... if you're okay with them wanting everything haha. Excellent place. The dark chocolate caramel sea salt is the stuff sweet dreams are made of! Everyone is warm and friendly. The specialty drinks are great. I particularly enjoyed the Golden Latte which has tumeric, ginger, cinnamon & black pepper. amazing! not only is are the chocolates so unique and exquisitely designed, but the ambience of Gretchen's chocolates is so relaxing and sweet and very homey. the service is excellent and they are so knowledgeable. It is extremely interesting the amount they know about flavor and their passion for chocolates. The cold brew is excellent! I never get oat milk but I do when I go there and it's so refreshing and delicious ! I was staying in Auburn for a month and I wanted to try this place based on the recommendations here. Walked over one day while doing laundry down the street. I saw two men close to the door, one sitting and another standing talking with him. Neither were wearing masks. Of course, the man sitting was eating/drinking and not an issue. I thought the other man would either be sitting down with his order or leaving so walked up and down for a minute or two then went back. The man who had been standing was now behind the counter and stocking items. I just left. There was a mask mandate in New York and if the owner/employee (?) couldn't wear a mask when required, what other health standards would he violate? This place is amazing!! There are so many chocolate, snack, and drink options. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful. I went in here earlier to get a latte and some chocolates, and I told the barista that I was vegan and she was very knowledgeable and helpful. They have a few vegan chocolates like a dark chocolate truffle, a fruit and nut bar, and a mint meltaway and a few milk options like almond, soy, and oat milk!! They even had bagels you can get as well! She even told me that they have soups sometimes and encouraged me to come back and try it which I plan on doing!
