This is the best ice cream spot in CNY in my opinion. Situated just outside of Cazenovia on Route…read more20, the Nelson Creamery is an unassuming ice cream spot that opened a few years ago and has quickly become a go-to when I'm in the area. Their prices are reasonable and the serving sizes generous. The "Creamery" part of their name is exemplified in their soft serve. It is creamy, thick, and doesn't melt right away like other ice creams might. I've tried the soft serve, hard flavors, and their version of a flurry/blizzard/etc. and can recommend all. A cool fact about the Creamery: it was opened by the local Masonic Lodge and their goal is to use profits to give back to the community. Very cool. Not much else to say here. Head to Cazenovia to check out the lake, have dinner at one of the great local restaurants, and finish up with dessert at the Nelson Creamery.

I love homemade hard ice cream and this was from Gillian's in Oneida. I've had their ice cream before and know it's top notch. I chose a maple walnut on a waffle cone and my husband 1 scoop of strawberry and a scoop of coconut almond. Mine was delicious and the cone was crispy and fresh and actually one of the best I've ever had. My only minor complaint is that I had zero walnuts in my ice cream! That could have just been because it was the bottom of the tub??? The flavor of the maple was excellent. My husband loved his flavors but said he liked the strawberry best. They had seating outside.

I got the chocolate soft serve with rainbow sprinkles and it was the perfect sweet treat. If you only want a little something, you can get a kids size like I did, but they also have small, medium, and large sizes too. One thing to know is that it is cash only. If you do not have cash, they may offer an IOU like they did for us. There is an ATM next door, but I had issues with it not accepting my card, and my friends had the same problem, so I ended up paying in quarters. They were very kind and patient about it though. The line can get pretty long, but it moves quickly, so it is not a bad wait at all. It would be nice if there was more seating, especially since so many people come here, but overall it is still a really great stop for ice cream.

Cute seasonal ice cream spot in Ithaca!…read more Located in downtown- the line can get pretty long in the evenings- even on weekdays. Cash only so be prepared. I am partial to soft serve but have tried both their hard icecream and soft serve. I prefer their soft serve but wish they had more flavors. I tried the classic chocolate twist and the two berry twist soft serves. In the two berry twist, I didn't like the pink flavor- it was too icy and more like a sorbet/dole whip than true soft serve. I liked the purple flavor thought! Overall, I still frequent Sweet Melissa's for softserve close to Cornell! Would recommend!

They also sell some very cute greeting cards, earrings, magnets, etc. We ordered two drinks (Ube Espresso, Crème Brûlée latte), a flower pot mini cake (chocolate cake with raspberry filling in a decorative flower pot), a crème brûlée donut, and a spinach puff. The desserts were good, with the flower pot mini cake being our favorite. The chocolate cake was moist and the raspberry filling was balanced. We didn't love the flower frosting on top, but it was very pretty. The donut was very unique and filled to the brim with a fluffy cream - though we both thought it could've had a bit more flavor. The dough was perfect - soft and pillowy. The crème brûlée top made for a fun eating experience as the thin hard sugar had a satisfying crunch. The spinach puff was also delicious. Flaky pastry and cheesy filling - very comforting. The stars of the show were the drinks. The coffee was superb - balanced, smooth, and rich in flavor. While I didn't find the ube flavor to stand out, the ube espresso drink was still one of my favorite coffee drinks I've had. The Crème Brûlée latte was my friend's favorite - it was the perfect dessert drink. It even had the sugar crust on top. I would definitely come back to try more of their menu!
